5.26 Moment - Snapshot of My Day, Edition #9 3/25/2023

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the twenty-sixth day of the month is "Moment."

********************

I got the idea for this type of "snapshot" post from Stephany Writes who got it from To Love and To Learn. I'm a straight-up copycat of the format.

Time I woke up: 6:30am when the alarm went off.

First thing I did upon waking up: Read some of a book on my Kindle under my SAD lamp

Today's weather: This is the headline of the day, to be honest. It was snowing like crazy this morning and didn't stop until after lunch. It was relatively warm, in the 30s, but the snow was out of control! Today is Dr. BB's first day of spring break, so welcome to spring!

Our morning walk. Notice the stop sign entirely covered by snow.

An out-of-the-ordinary thing that happened today: The weather was so unusual for this time of year. We had planned on driving to Dubuque to go to my niece's birthday party, but instead we just stayed home. No glitter tattoos for me.

Last thing I read (on the Internet): Do you know the Instagram feed artbutmakeitsports? This guy puts stills from sporting events next to historical works of arts and it's amazing? I read an article about how he does it from memory - he doesn't use AI to match the photo to the artwork. It's stunning.

Last thing I read (not on the Internet): I am reading a fantasy novel called Bastion by Mercedes Lackey.

Last text I sent: I sent a message to my accountability buddy telling her that my exercise today was shoveling, followed by a trudge through the snow with the dog on our afternoon walk since hardly anyone else in our neighborhood had shoveled yet.

Heavy, wet snow is not always my favorite to shovel. Fortunately, Dr. BB was home and snowblowed the driveway.

Last text I received: From my accountability buddy wishing that winter would end.

Last website I visited: I'm trying to find an email address for my yoga teacher so I can put her in contact with the health and wellness coordinator at the local healthcare group, so I was looking her up on the Yoga Alliance page.

The infamous church with its 15-minute bell tolls. It IS really pretty, though.

Last show I watched: I put on a James Acaster stand-up show on Netflix on Thursday evening and promptly fell asleep.

Last podcast I listened to: I listened to the first episode of Dungeons and Daddies, which is a D&D roleplaying podcast because everyone says it's good.

Last thing I said: "I'm going to take Hannah for a walk."

Last thing I ate: Peanut butter on crackers.

What I was doing an hour ago: Trudging through the snow with Hannah on our afternoon walk.

What I will be doing an hour from now: Working on blog posts for the upcoming week.
Current whereabouts of the other members of the household: Hannah is zoinked out in her bed. Zelda is sleeping on her rocking chair. Dr. BB is upstairs practicing guitar.

Note that we always put a blanket IN her bed and she kicks it out. We are not mean people who don't give her toys and blankets. She doesn't want them!

One thing I crossed off my to-do list: Shoveling? Honestly, since it was a Saturday and we decided we weren't going to Iowa, it was a really lazy day.

Because it wasn't that cold and the snow was falling off trees, I wore my raincoat, but also my winter hat and gloves. I looked amazing, as you can see.

Who is someone I should be following on Instagram? I recommend wolfgang2242, a guy who has about a million senior rescue dogs, a chicken, and a pig and natureismetal, which shows animals being badasses (so be aware that sometimes animals kill other animals..).

  2. Oh my. Please, please, keep that snow over there in WI. It's 32 here in NEO, but we've at least got sunny skies and no threat of precip.

    1. Oh, I'm jealous of your sunny skies. That's not in our long-range forecast. *sigh*

  3. UGH!!! I'm sorry that b-day party trip was a no-go. It was crazy windy and rainy here yesterday, but thankfully we didn't get any of the white stuff. Please send it back north where it belongs.

    1. It set records - the most snowfall on March 25 since 1899!

  4. Nothing says spring like a snowstorm, eh?

That said, your pictures are GORGEOUS! I do love the way a heavy, wet snow turns the world into a wonderland. If I didn't have to shovel it (and didn't hate how inconvenient it is for getting around...and didn't make me freezing cold) - I really do love the aesthetic of snow!!!

    1. It was LOVELY. I also really like how the snow muffles all the sounds, so it's so quiet. It's like it's just me and Hannah in the whole world. I mean, I don't like driving or the cold, but there are some real benefits to snow. But also, I'd rather not have it in late March.

  5. What a great way for your husband to start spring break! I'm sad that you missed the party (because I wanted to see your glitter tattoo) but other than that it actually looks like a beautiful, peaceful day. I guess the snow tired Hannah out! I hope you guys have a relaxing and fun week together.

    1. Ha! My husband is counting on this week to catch up on grading and class prep, so I imagine I won't see him much. Sad for him! But hopefully we'll be able to have one or two adventures together.

    1. It was pretty. I'm hoping this is the last of the snow for the year, though. FINGERS CROSSED.

  7. The snow is pretty even to me, who moved to Florida to get away from dealing with it!

In terms of Instagram, after a bunch of friends, and numerous yarn stores and dyers, I also follow various cat pages, some zoos, dailyoverview, usinterior, natgeo, Pete Souza, and I just started following artbutmakeitsports, which makes me laugh.

    1. US Fish & Wildlife is also a good follow for pictures of adorable baby animals. I suspect our feeds look a lot alike (with the exception of yarn!).

  8. We got snow as well, but not nearly as much. However, I must say that it is beautiful.

    1. I do hope it turns out to be the last of the beauty for the season. I'd like to be able to start posting photos of flowers!

  9. The snow is so pretty! But such an unwanted paint this time of year.

Sorry you missed the party :( How far are you from DBQ?

I am going to be shameless and say to follow my art page on Insta if you aren't. Ha. @kimhidestherocks. I can recommend tons of cute cat accounts too LOL.

    1. We're about 2.5 hours from Dubuque, so it's doable for us to get there and back in a day, but not when Madison has 10 inches of snow!

I followed you on Instagram! Can't wait to see your adorable artwork.

    2. No way! I would have skipped too!

      Thank you!!!

  10. Good lord, that snow. :( So sorry for you guys. Especially missing out on the glitter tattoo and party.
Hannah looks so comfy cozy in her bed. We give Peanut blankets and she kind of obsess/digs/tears them up. whomp whomp.

  11. I sat in my apartment and thought, what the...what? I kept thinking it would stop - that they'd screwed up the forecast as they have so many times this winter (well, all winters, let's be honest). And they did - but in the wrong direction! So sorry you missed the party. :( Hope the glitter tattoos make an appearance for Easter????
