11.5 Drawing - Cow, Part II

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a predetermined theme randomly chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the fifth day of the month is "Drawing." I am such a bad artist that I've started taking photos of town landmarks and putting them through an app that creates pencil drawings.

Last month, I showed you our local museum's cow. Last week I went to go get the "night" side of the cow.

After running it through the black and white filter, here it is!

I went last Thursday and it was a slow day at the museum. Both the volunteer who was manning the information desk and two staff people asked me if I needed help and I felt really terrible about going in there, taking one photo, and immediately leaving, so I wandered about for a few minutes.

There are cows everywhere.

I just feel like I need to stress that these seven breeds are Aryshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, and Red & White. I only had to look up two of them. I'm not even orignally from Wisconsin.

Do you prefer the original photo or the filtered design this month?

  1. Original! I love the colours.
I know dairy cows and that's about it. Definitely not an area of expertise for me, so I'm VERY impressed with your knowledge of the various breeds.

    1. I just know them because that poster is ubiquitous in most homes in the state. LOL. I don't know if I'd be able to actually name a breed if I saw a cow in person.

  2. Ha the museum staff would totally have understood you just wanting to come in to take the photo. When I started my local tourism rampage at first I felt like I was bothering people and then I learned that the reason why people work or volunteer for a museum is that they love it. They appreciate whatever it is that brought you to their site - whether it's to take a long time to delve into every little detail or just to take a cow photo;-)

Photo > drawing for this one.

    1. I sort of feel terrible because they work so hard at this museum. Oh, well, I'm sure I was counted in their number of visitors and that's probably all they really care about.

  3. Good for you- you recognized five of the seven "wonders of Wisconsin." This looks like a funny little museum. I definitely like the photo better this month!

    1. It's definitely a small-town museum. Worth coming to if you're already in town, but not necessarily something you'd go out of your way to see.

  4. I am obsessed with cows and have been since I was little. Not being funny. And I didn't even grow up on or near a farm.

    Maybe that's why.

    1. We lived down the road from a dairy farm and sometimes the cows would break free from the fence and come into our yard. I have a healthy respect for cows.

    1. Hey, it's a start. It won't take much studying to get you up to all seven.

    1. I don't know if I love cows, but I sure do appreciate how important they are to the history of the area where I live.

  8. The Husband and I have this inside joke about cow paintings. Years ago when we were first married, I bought one at a consignment store and ever since we've contemplated buying another one to compliment it... There is something about the big big cow eyes that I just love...
He was just at the Minnesota State Fair last weekend and texted me a cow painting, but I couldn't justify the four figure price tag. But it was a lovely cow painting.

    1. YES! I was just at a home in Iowa last weekend with a lovely close-up painting of a cow. So ubiquitous here in the midwest. I'd love to own a nice one myself. LOL.

  9. The original this time! I love cows (I'm nominally Hindu--so 'sacred cow' is literal for me LOL).

  10. Love the photo. I need to make my visit and soon, I suspect. Seeing the cows in person is required, I think. Also? I am not a Wisconsinite - I've never seen that poster! (Note: I have been in very few homes of other people here, so there's that...)
