15-minute stretch class at lunchtime*
Forever clearing wet snow off our driveway. Normally I would not have had to do all this by myself, but my husband is on the IR after he had a benign cyst removed from his back last week and he can't do any strenuous lifting or stretching. It was a wet, wet snow and the snow blower wouldn't touch it and I did it manually and I am giving myself full credit for this strength and cardio workout. Also, I didn't have time for a workout because I was too busy shoveling.

Do you ever workout outside?
I see you did my favorite deadbug workout! Did you use dumbbells? Did you want to cry by the time you got to the double deadbugs near the end? I've been doing that one so much, I feel like I'm getting a LITTLE better at it.
ReplyDeleteDid you count the wet snow removal as a workout in your monthly total? I hope so!
I did not use dumbbells because I was traveling. I thought it was hard enough with just bodyweight!!
DeleteShoveling wet snow is definitely a strength workout! (I have been known to stretch after, haha...) I used to work out a lot outside when I did a Crossfit-esque boot camp. We did most of our workouts in the parking lot on mats. One of my strongest sense memories from that decade is that there was a crouton factory nearby and the smell of warm, garlicky carbs would helpfully distract me during my final sets of deadlifts or burpees...
ReplyDeleteI guess I didn't realize how much working out outside would invigorate me. I need to do it more on my own in my backyard, I guess!
DeleteOh, wow! I'm not sure if the smell of croutons would distract me in the right way!
I got so happy as I read through this post because your log reminded me that we'd had snow a month ago. All gone now! I think I'm doing a bit better on scheduling small, body-care breaks during the day because of you, Engie!
ReplyDeleteYes! It was lovely to remember that snow is now a thing of the past (hopefully!). I'm glad to hear that you're doing small breaks during the day - it can really make a difference.
DeleteI mean the fact that SNOW happened in April is enough to make me sit down and cry. Yes, that 100% counts as a workout - for both body and soul.
ReplyDeleteOh, I 100% counted it. I was such a sweaty mess by the end of it!
DeleteSnow removal 100% counts as exercise. Especially that heavy, wet snow. YUCK.
ReplyDeleteI count my walks outside as workouts! They involve hills, so they get my heart pumping.
My "walks" with Hannah are frequently more "meanders," so I definitely need to do more than walks. I am jealous that you can get some cardio going with your hills!
DeleteYoga outside would be so fun if I wasn't committed to never letting another living being see me try to do yoga.
ReplyDeleteShoveling is ABSOLUTELY a workout, especially wet snow.
We're about the same point in Flow with Adriene. My daughter is doing it now too!
No one would see me do yoga if I did it in my own backyard. But lots of people have seen me do yoga - I have no shame.
DeleteIt's going to take me months to get through Flow since I'm averaging about one video a week. Oh, well. At least I'm doing something, right?
Way to go, friend. You're keeping it up...and I love the outdoor yoga!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe how much more energized I was from working out in the fresh air. I was exhausted that night, but it was so much fun.
DeleteThis is so so impressive. I am envious because i can't find daily motivation even though I would have the time...
ReplyDeleteI checked the lunch classes you mentioned a while back ago and was going to sign up only to realize that they wouldn't be lunch but late night classes due to the time difference. I know I will never do those... sad.
Oh, ha! Yes, it would be late for you because of time zones. Don't sign up!
DeleteDaily motivation is hard to find. I know some people love exercise, but I am watching how the years of inactivity are impacting my mother as she gets older and I always think about that when I don't want to exercise. I want to be as active as possible for as long as possible and if that means sometimes I have to lift weights when I don't want to, so be it!
As always, go you. Seriously. Go. You. Even during a month of insane...stuff...look at all you did. And yes, FTLOG, a yoga video "counts". Sheesh. ;)
