8.5 Drawing - Forward

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a predetermined theme randomly chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the fifth day of the month is "Drawing." I am such a bad artist that I've started taking photos of town landmarks and putting them through an app that creates pencil drawings.

As I wrote about last week, a couple of our friends got married last Friday morning at the Wisconsin State Capitol. It was lovely and I took a million photos of the bride and groom, but it doesn't seem cool to post photos of their wedding day when they haven't posted any to social media, so I leave you with this photo of the 1893 "Forward" statue. (If it looks familiar, I posted this same statue in April!) Wisconsin used to be a progressive state, my friends. How times have changed.

Which one do you like better?

  1. In this case I like the original better- I like the contrast between the dark statue, white Capitol and blue sky.
Yes, I guess you can't really post photos of someone else's wedding on your blog, but I'm kind of bummed- I'm kind of nosy like that!

    1. Yeah, I'm not sure you're going to get any photos of the wedding, Jenny! I'm so sorry. The bride wore a pinkish/coral dress and the groom wore a suit with a tie that matched pretty well. The bouquet was lovely. The ceremony was outside the Capitol and the officiant was the longest-serving judge in the county (he talked about retirement A LOT). It was lovely!

  2. I prefer the photo, but the details of the statue are much more clear in the drawing! Funny how that works.

    1. I thought it was interesting that you could almost make out the writing on the plaque with the filter, but not at all in the original. Fascinating.

  3. I don't know that I have a preference, just see the images as two different things that are of value in different ways.

[You mention you're writing your posts with Bestest Friend, yet I have no idea who this is. Is that a secret or did I miss the post about Bestest Friend?]

    1. Oh, Bestest Friend was originally in on this project with me and she helped me come up with the prompts and structure of the project, but then it was just too overwhelming for her (posting daily! it's a lot!) and she stopped.

You can read her here: http://2lgt2qt.blogspot.com/

    1. It was lovely. Kind of hot, but hey, it's June!

  5. I also prefer the original this time (usually it's the other way around because I love the fun arty flair of the sketch); I agree that the white of the building and the blue of the sky is just lovely.

I'm with Jenny - I am so nosy about wedding photos (but totally get why you wouldn't upload any)!!

    1. I don't know, friends. The bride and groom have been really private about the event, so I think it's going to be a long time before I post any photos, if ever. It wouldn't be THAT interesting anyway, since you don't know them! But it was lovely and I was honored that they asked us to be witnesses.

  6. I like that the face and sculpture details are clearer in the "drawing", though I suppose one might be able to edit the photo to bring out those details too. Do you ever try to edit the photos before you apply the drawing filter? I wonder if a drawing app filters the original photo or on the altered image?

    1. The app filters whatever image you upload to it. I rarely do much to my photos outside of a bit of cropping, so I haven't really messed around with lighting or editing before uploading to the app. But if you edited an image and uploaded it to the app, that's the image it would apply the filter to because it doesn't have the original image.

  7. Photo... but only because I'm a sucker for blue skies.

    1. Blue skies with fluffy white clouds can't be beat!

  8. Photo because of the blue skies! What did you go with for your gift?

    1. You know what? We bought a bouquet and didn't get any other gift because I think they're going to do a reception/party later on and we'll buy a gift then. I'll probably get a return address stamp for them for their new place at that time.

  9. Oh, I love that statue and what it stands for. Particularly given who (ahem, morons) is 'leading' the groups in the building behind it. It gives me hope that eventually things might change. I personally like both the photo and drawing but lean a bit towards the photo.

    1. Yes, it's so hard to be in that building and know what they're doing in there. :(
