8.4 Information - Peonies Everywhere

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a post on a pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the fourth day of the month is "Information."

*******************

This is a great time of year to come to our town. We have the largest public collection of intersectional peonies in North America and they are in absolute bloom right now! I have taken to going out of my way in the mornings to walk Hannah by the garden, which is not on our regular walking route and it's very confusing for poor Hannah. But they're only in bloom for a couple of weeks, so I feel like I should take full advantage while I can.

What's something that's awesome in your town that is brief, but so much fun?

  1. Gorgeous peonies! We have a Rose Garden in town that is one of the highlights of our town. We live by the large state school in MI, and when the students are away over the summer, I have the beautiful and extensive walkways and gardens practically to myself :).

    1. Oh, a dream is a college campus during the summer. They are always so well landscaped and curated and it's so lovely! One of my friend's daughters just graduated from high school and she's going to be starting at MSU in the fall!

    2. So cool about your friend's daughter! Please LMK if there is anything I can do.

  2. I believe that I have heard them called, queen(s) of the garden.

    1. Yes! I think I've heard queen of the flowers, but the sentiment is the same.

  3. So pretty! I love a peony. And probably it's good for Hannah, (and you?!), to break out of the routine once in a while.

We have a local garden that has a profusion of daffodils each spring, so that's kind of neat to see. I used to live in a city that took a lot of pride in its lilacs, to the point where there was a lilac festival each year. These are all flower related!

    1. Well, I guess flowers are the most ephemeral things we really take notice of, right? It makes sense to me that our first thoughts are of flowers, those showy plants!

    1. They are gorgeous. Too bad they don't stick around very long!

  5. I adore peonies but they don't grow well here. Our town does firework displays better than anywhere else I've ever lived. No little 5 minute event on the Fourth, instead about 20 minutes of big ass kabooms and colors with not a second of downtime. It just flows perfectly.

    1. Oh, wow! A town doing fireworks well is definitely something to look forward to every year.

  6. Hmmm. I live in an area known (and famous for) apple blossoms. In fact, we have a huge parade and weekend celebration called the Apple Blossom Festival. But after blooming, they are gone within a few days so it's a VERY short season.
I don't actually go to the festival events because they're crowded - so, HARD PASS. But other (more fun?) people adore it.

    1. Oh, yes, I rarely go to any events at the museum because they're always just wall to wall people. But going to the garden outside of working hours seems like the best of both worlds.

  7. That's so cool! I looked up the museum and always forget how close we live to each other LOL. Hmm, what does my town have... brief and oh so fun... our spring? HA

    1. Spring in Wisconsin IS like three days - you are absolutely right about that! We are really close! If you ever find yourself in my town, let me know! I'll show you all the sights.

  8. Wow, that is cool! Poor Hannah, she'll just be getting used to the new route and then the peonies won't be in bloom anymore. I can't think of anything in our town that's specifically only for a short time- but I'm sure there are things I'm not aware of. I'll be out running and notice a tree with vividly-colored flowers and I'll note how pretty it is- but I don't go farther and note what time of year things actually bloom.

    1. Ha! It's interesting because I just assume everything is in full bloom all the time in hot climates. That's obviously not true, but I sort of imagine you living in a botanical garden when I picture your town.

  9. Peonies are my faaavorite. One bush of ours is all done, but the other is SO PERFECT. I think I like them even better because they only last for a second.

    1. I hope you enjoyed your perfect peonies for that one day! It's fleeting and we need to make sure we don't take those flowers for granted.

  10. I love Peonies so much! I wish I could grow them way down here, but nope!
I can't think of anything that is brief in our area aside from chilly weather. 😜😳

    1. Yes, I'm a bit envious of people who live in climate with longer growing seasons. Your flowers stay peak for so much longer!

  11. I adore peonies and would love to plant some in our yard eventually. Their season is so short but that makes you appreciate it! The things Minneapolis is best known for aren't fleeting - I'd say it's our lakes and walking/biking paths! Or at least that's what I talk about when people ask what makes Minneapolis unique. I'd also highlight our skyways system in downtown Minneapolis.

  12. Oh, I love peonies. Beautiful!
We have a beautiful rosegarden here in Sacramento that I love to visit when everything is in full bloom

  13. Peonies are lovely. And, per the link, there are other gardens with other flowers that would be equally worthy of a visit. You may find me at your door this summer, sometime, as I focus on local travel since the international travel didn't work out. Bonus points if there is a custard/ice cream place in town? ;)

  14. Something awesome in my town that is brief but fun? What a coincidence: intersectional peonies!
