5.5 Drawing - Sculpture About Town

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a predetermined theme randomly chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the fifth day of the month is "Drawing." I am such a bad artist that I've started taking photos of town landmarks and putting them through an app that creates pencil drawings.

*************************

The largest tourist attraction in our town is probably the dinner theater. They regularly do musicals (now playing The Music Man!) and there's something incredibly humbling about going to a yoga class with some of the performers (oh, I have a sore hamstring she says as she goes into the splits without a second thought). They also do an amazing Friday Fish Fry - which is how it is written in Wisconsin, in all caps - so if you ever come visit, we'll definitely be going there for dinner on Friday night.

In the parking lot of this establishment is the following sculpture. Note that the sun has gone away and is never going to return. It's a fun sculpture and the dinner theater regularly decorates it.

At night sometimes there's a fire under sculpture and I find the whole vibe of it charming. I'm also sort of obsessed with these big red sculptures

Which version do you prefer? (I'd prefer a version WITH SUN, but I guess we are where we are.)

  1. Since there's no sun, I'll take the sketch version this time. How about a rematch if the sun ever comes back?

    1. Sure, if the sun ever comes back, I'll try to get back there for another photo.

  2. I understand the whole No Sun thing. We have gone several months without sun here in NEO, and my SAD puts me over the edge. I have a Happy Light, and that helps a little.

I've never been to a dinner theatre, and the only one around here has been gone for some years now. Funny fact--its female lead was my children's first daycare provider. She was terrific at both jobs.

    1. Yes, our dinner theater is holding strong and I'm impressed that it made it through the pandemic. Wow! Did your daycare provider teach the kids lots of songs and dances?

  3. I prefer the photo, because it's easier for me to imagine that version with a fire under it, which I would love to see! How neat.

    1. If I ever drive by when the fire is going, I'll try to get a photo. I think it's mostly in the summer when that happens? I'll see what I can do.

  4. That is so cool to work out with the performers!
That sculpture is cool! Have you seen the Flamingo in Chicago?

  5. I usually prefer the sketch version in this game, but this time I like the photo. Now, it would look stunning with a bright blue sky so someday when that happens again, maybe you'll have to post a new photo!

    1. I'm tempted to find a beautiful summer day and just take all the photos of spots around town on a lovely sunny day!

  6. I like the photo version best, even with the overcast skies! We haven't had much sun here either. It hasn't bothered me as much this year. Bright, sunny skies often come with terribly cold temps and I will take mild temps + clouds over sunshine + horribly cold temps! But now we are entering the time of year where it can be sunny and mild! But it would need to stop snowing for us to have sunny skies...

    1. Yes, we call the sunny, frigid days "Minneapolis days" in our house. I love those days, though, and prefer them to the overcast warm days! We are weather opposites.

  7. That is really cool; both are lovely and I hope the sun makes an appearance soon.
I love a musical dinner theater. Do you guys attend?

    1. We actually have never attended a performance. We're too frugal for that. I've only been to Friday Fish Fry when we have visitors. I've heard the performances are quite good, though, if you're into that sort of thing.

  8. I like that sculpture -- I can imagine it with the fire. That would be great!

  9. I'm weird. I like the sketch. Lots of people seem to prefer the photo!
And can I come to the Fish Fry? Gosh, it's been a really, really (really) long time since I've gone to one... hm... :)

  10. I have yet to attend the Friday Fish Fry or a show, but both are on my list!
