2022 Q1 Quarterly Goals Update

Here is my first review of quarterly goals for 2022! Woot woot!  Generally speaking, my health and communication goals went really well and everything else just sort of fizzled. Look for a lot of rollover goals for the second quarter.

 Area One: Health

1) Work out five times a week for 30 minutes or more. Yoga twice a week.  Something else three times a week.

January:
27/31 days of working out for 30 minutes or more
13 yoga workouts
13 strength/cardio workouts

February:
22/28 days of working out for 30 minutes or more
12 yoga workouts
10 strength/cardio workouts

March:
26/31 days of working out for 30 minutes or more
10 yoga workouts
17 strength/cardio workouts

Averages:
I did 75/90 days working out for 30 minutes or more (83.3%) which is much greater than the 71.4% (5/7 days on average) goal I set for myself! Yay! I'm quite proud of this since this is a quarter where I really struggle with motivation.

My yoga goal was twice a week, which would work out to 26 over the quarter and I did 35, so I met this goal easily. I imagine this helped me remain motivated to do the rest of my workouts, as well.

My "something other than yoga" goal was three times a week, which would work out to 39 over the quarter and I did 40, so I nailed this one pretty much exactly.

I'm quite pleased with this as an outcome. I'm going to maintain this as a goal for the next quarter.

*2) Go to the doctor to deal with the back pain that I've been suffering from since September and then actually do something about said pain.

I went to the doctor on January 11 and she sent me to PT. I went to PT for three weeks in January and February. Continued PT exercises thereafter. I'm pleased to report that it's not generally a problem anymore,  I'm sleeping through the night, and as long as I don't get too strenuous with HIIT, things are good.

*3) Drink at least sixteen ounces of water every day.

January: 30/31 days.

February: 25/28 days.

March: 28/31 days.

92% is pretty good. I'm going to definitely try to increase my water intake in the next quarter to see if I can meet a more challenging goal.

Area Two: Professional

*1) Apply to a new job at least once a week until I have a new job.

I applied for a lot more than 13 jobs, so I guess I did accomplish this goal, although I'm still in my very hated job, so this will stay on the list for next quarter.

2) Respond to emails for my volunteer gig in a timely manner.

I don't have a good measuring system for this, but I'd give myself about a C, I guess.

*3) Solidify the programming calendar for volunteer gig for 2022 in the first quarter.

Ha ha. We did not do this.

Area Three: Communication

1) Continue to post in my blog at least twice a week.

January: 26 posts

February: 21 posts

March: 22 posts

I posted every weekday in this quarter. This is entirely because I'm so unhappy with my day job that it makes me feel good to be able to do something productive with my time. Regardless, I think I'm going to keep the goal at two posts a week because I know that's manageable for me at my busiest times and there's no predicting what this quarter will look like since I'm job hunting.

2) Continue to write a note to K/D/M once a month.

January: Sent notes that I wrote on MLK Day.

February: Sent out Valentine's Day notes.

March: Sent St. Patrick's Day cards.

3) Keep lists of snail mail I send and books I read.

January: Book list here. I sent six birthday cards, one bill, one holiday card that had been returned after I got a new address, and my notes to K/D/M for a total of eleven items out in the snail mail.

February: Book list here. I sent one bill, four birthday cards, and Valentine's Day cards to my eleven nieces and nephews, as well as six others, including K/D/M, for a total of twenty-two items out in the snail mail.

March: Book list here. I sent two birthday cards, three bills, one engagement card, one postcard, and St. Patrick's Day cards to my eleven nieces and nephews, as well as six others, including K/D/M, for a total of twenty-four items out in the snail mail.

Area Four: Post-Pandemic Re-Entry

1) Visit a new park/nature preserve/outdoor space at least once a quarter.

Dr. BB and I went to see the ice castles with some friends in February. It was delightful to do and be somewhere new.

*2) Make plans in Q1 to visit my mom in Q2.

This didn't happen. Ha. I will have to do this soon.

*3) Buy more KN95 masks.

I actually didn't do this. I have six new KN95s in our mask drawer and because I never go anywhere and since it seems like this is slowing down (FINGERS AND TOES CROSSED), I never invested in any others. I may buy some later on, but I'm okay that I didn't do this since I never ran out.

Miscellaneous

*1) Figure out how to put more money in my investment accounts.

Ha ha ha! This will roll right over into Q2 since I still haven't figured it out.

*2) Brush the dog and cat's teeth.

January: Hannah 29/31 days, Zelda 30/31 days

February: Hannah 27/28 days, Zelda 27/28 days

March: Hannah 25/31 days,  Zelda 26/31 days

I feel like these are okay numbers (90% for Hannah, 92% for Zelda) and now it's part of our evening routine. I'm not including this in the next quarter goals, but if I sense that I'm reverting back to never brushing their teeth, I reserve the right to bring it back!

*3) Try to figure out a budget for big things like groceries, savings, pet care, and things that aren't regular expenses, but come up regularly like birthday and holiday presents.

I really haven't done this at all or even made a decent attempt beyond tracking my expenses for each month.

*4) Donate $25 a month to a charity.

January: Donated supplies from their Amazon wishlist to a local pet rescue.

February: Donated supplies from their Amazon wishlist to our local humane society.

March: Donated money to the capital campaign for our local homeless prevention organization.

What are your goals for next quarter?  Do they involve lots of rollover goals, too?

  1. You did really great on your goals! You sent a lot of snail mail - I am sure the recipients really appreciated that. And wow you have a lot of nieces and nephews! I have 9 and they all come from my siblings since my husband is the only living child in his family.

I make monthly goals and they are very basic and mostly related to organizing photos/deleting old videos on google photos. But this month I added a goal to start our 2022 photobook and 2023 calendar. I try to work on those throughout the year so it's not such a huge job at the end of the year!

    1. Our nieces and nephews are all from my husband's siblings - my sister and I don't have kids. We try to be the nice aunt and uncle who send fun things in the mail and give them all the candy they want.

Setting goals monthly does seem popular, but I tend to think if I mess up on or two days a month, the whole thing is ruined, but if I do quarterly goals, one or two days is barely a blip in the big scheme of things. But if weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly goals work for someone, I say keep going with it!

  2. Best of luck on the job search - it's a rollover goal for me as well. Some days I feel like my search is going to take a million years. On the one hand it's fine because I'm looking for an AH-mazing job and not just a paycheck, but geez some days I wish that Job Charming would hurry up and get here.

    1. At this point, I'd really just take a job I am competent at, can go and do and feel proud at the end of the day, and not have an anxious stomach about 24 hours a day! Not Job Charming, just Job Adequate!

  3. Wow! Great work.
I mostly only set annual goals and then have a bunch of flexible goals for each week/month I list in my planner as they "come to me."
So many people seem to set quarterly goals but I don't think I have the white space mentally to take this on?
I walked every day in the first quarter and that was great. Beyond that, I haven't really tracked much.
I've ticked off about 6 items on my 22 for 2022 list, but I already know some are just not going to happen (i.e. a specific renovation I listed that is NOT going to happen because my husband is on sabbatical!).
Actually, seeing Lisa's response, I do something similar with monthly to-do's. I take the photos off my phone each month, complete our family budget/financial tracking, update all the corporate business financials for my small-business, and send family/friends an e-mail update of our month. I don't really treat these are goals, per se, but just regular to-do's. But they're still very satisfying to cross off!!

    1. Hey, if you have a system for goal setting that works for you, I say keep going with it! The quarterly system works for me, but it may not be for everyone!

  4. This is so much!! Wow. You did a ton!! Very impressed. Way to go!! You crushed the workout/ physical fitness realm, especially. :) My goals for March were kind of a joke, because we were gone for half of March. I just realized it's April 7th and I haven't written a single anything down on my goals page for April yet, either. Guess I'm going to accomplish them all!! hehehe.

    1. Thanks! I felt pretty good about goals this quarter. It's a good reminder that even though things aren't great professionally, there are OTHER things in my life.

  6. I hope that you find a job that you ENJOY and that does not leave you with a stomach ache soon. I know that feeling of dread at the start of another day and it is not a fun one. Fingers crossed. Also, toes. And wow, your snail mail output is impressive. I am envious but also realize that yeah, that's not going to happen for me... Sigh.

  7. I think you did great on your goals, and yeah, sometimes these rollover goals have to be there to hel us chip away at things. Not everything gets done all at once.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you for your job hunt!
