Morning Routine

Our routine varies day to day, depending on whether or not Dr. BB has to teach or not, either face to face or online, but the very beginning of our days never changes. It's the same every weekday, every weekend, every season.

The alarm goes off at 7 and Dr. BB and I blearily make the bed (it used to be 6:30 pre-covid, but I'm working from home now, so we get to sleep in).  I immediately go to the bathroom while Dr. BB goes downstairs where the cat meows at him and he lets the dog out of the mudroom.  Hannah wants all the cuddles, so when I come downstairs, she comes over to me and we cuddle for a couple of minutes.

This is when Dr. BB and I separate.

I put the harness on the dog and take her for a walk around the block. In the summer, this is easy breezy, but as it gets cooler, this involves more gear for me and more gear for her and the whole process takes longer.

While Hannah and I are out walking, Dr. BB feeds Zelda the Cat, empties the dishwasher, and starts to make tea.

When Hannah and I get back inside, I train her for five to ten minutes and give her the rest of her breakfast.  While this is happening, Dr. BB makes his own breakfast. I generally sit on the couch until Dr. BB is out of the kitchen because we're surly people in the morning and it's best to not get in each other's way.

Once he's at the table eating, I throw together my own breakfast and wolf it down. I will finish before Dr. BB because he is the slowest eater I've ever met and then I'll go shower.

He's usually done eating when I get out of the shower and he's usually made us another round of tea, for which I fall down at his feet.

And at this point, our days diverge depending on what's going on.

Most days, I sit at my computer on the couch and start working. For a couple of weeks in March, I actually sat at the dining room table, but that habit quickly dropped away.  On Mondays and sometimes Thursdays, I do a one-hour yoga class at 10am, but generally I work and/or compulsively check the news.

Dr. BB goes upstairs if he's teaching a remote course. On the days he doesn't teach, he sits on the other couch and works, generally doing lecture prep or grading.

But I know you're mostly interested in what Hannah and Zelda are doing, aren't you?

Fifty pounds of sun worshipping beauty here.

Well, they're hanging out in the mudroom because it's sunny and warm there and the people aren't clickety-clackety on the keyboards.

zzzzzzz...don't look at me, I'm sleeping!
