Doing Errands or Why Fridays Are (Slightly) Different

On Fridays, I run errands.  It's basically the only time I leave the four-square block of my dog walking routine in any give week, so Fridays seem special*. Yesterday, I picked up books on hold at the library, went to the pet store, grocery store, and gas station.  Here are my notes.

1) Mask usage was near 100% at every place except the gas station.  Not everyone was wearing them correctly, but most people were. That was encouraging. I saw four people enter the gas station while I pumped gas and not a single one wore a mask and none of the people pumping gas wore one, either. I did wear a mask, for what it's worth.

2) The pet store was absolutely amazing. I pet a Bassett/mastiff mix that was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. He was built like a tank, but his legs were so short. Super adorable.  Also, there were hardly any customers in the store which is a local chain warehouse, so it was huge and open and I actually browsed a little.  Glorious. I'll be going there from here on out, rather than the pet store in my town where the owners feel like the mask mandate is stupid and post about how stupid it is all over their Facebook pages.

3) I saw this woman across the potato aisle drop a five pound bag of potatoes. I rushed over there because it looked like they had fallen on her foot and I was ready to swoop in and (do what? call someone?) help.  Turns out it fell just in front of her, but it really got my adrenaline up.  Look at me caring about some white lady who I assume voted for Trump. I may never forgive my fellow white women for the 2020 election results, my friends.

4) I continue to be super confused by shortages on grocery store shelves. There were only 5-pound bags of organic carrots and I honestly just wanted 2-pound bag, but the produce guy told me they haven't had the smaller bags in months.  Where has all the daily shower cleaner gone?  Why is paprika and cumin always in such short supply that I have to get the fancy, expensive kind? WHY IS THERE NO KEY LIME LA CROIX?! I will drive to La Crosse if I have to in order to solve this mystery.

5) I drink a lemon-lime Gatorade Zero every day on the advice of my doctor.  Long story, but it's supposed to help with the dizziness I frequently have and it hasn't really helped, but I continue drinking it because it's actually refreshing after I work out. ANYWAY, I've tried the following flavors: Lemon-Lime, Berry, Orange, Grape, Glacier Freeze, and Glacier Cherry.  Lemon-lime is clearly my favorite, but I'll drink the glacier flavors if there's no lemon-lime in stock, which happens with some regularity (see point #4).

But today, I saw a green Gatorade Zero I'd never seen before. The bottles were in a box so I couldn't see the flavor name, but the price sticker below the box said "Lime Gatorade Zero." That sounded like a flavor I would love (see my Key Lime La Croix rant above). So I picked up the bottle and it was a GIANT LIE.  The actual flavor was "Green Apple."  Barf.

Shopping in a pandemic is exhausting.  That is all.

*Fridays are also the day the next episodes of The Great British Bake-Off are released, so there's always something to do after dinner, which is amazing and wonderful and make Friday seem so celebratory that no other day of the week can live up to it, what with me gallivanting to the next county to go grocery shopping and watching British niceness.
