It's Cool Blogger Walking Club (CBWC) time. Hosted by Elisabeth, we're trying for ten minutes of intentional movement every day.

Hannah and I went for several walks today, but the only one in daylight was after work. It was in the 70s on this walk and Hannah was loving her life.

Thursday, October 2
On our morning walk, Hannah and I came across this spoooooky house. I have talked about this before, but the first year we had Hannah, displays like this would have majorly freaked her out, but she was just sniffing the decorations today. I love that I don't have to be on edge with yard decorations any longer.
Friday, October 3
A few walks with Hannah today, but my favorite walk was with my colleague. She's having some challenges in her life right now, but Friday morning we forgot about all that and just enjoyed a lovely Friday morning together. We did *some* work, but also futzed around a bit.
Saturday, October 4
My husband and I met up with his sister and her family at a waterpark in a nearby touristy area on Saturday. The three of us went for a post-lunch walk after some waterpark time while the kids played at a very loud arcade. We saw horses! I complained about my sister! My husband complained about the state legislature!
Sunday, October 5
It has been unseasonably hot here. Hannah, as you can see, is over it. Today was the last day of the super hot weather and I think we're going to settle into more autumnal vibes.
Monday, October 6
It was a lovely day until it wasn't. Here was part of the lovely day. I took a couple of walks with Hannah, but my trip to and from yoga on campus was a real highlight.

Do you ever see wildlife or livestock on your CBWC walks? When's the last time you went on a walk with someone else?

So many great Hannah photos! I am so pleased for you that she's no longer bothered by yard decor. That must have walking during October extremely challenging!
ReplyDeleteI see wildlife all the time on my walks! Deer, bunnies, squirrels, chipmunks, wooly bears, a huge variety of birds. I love it so! My local writing friend and I try to get together and walk before our writing sessions twice a week. This week it will only be once, but it's a lovely way to start the day.
Group and Hannah are both doing well on your walks. We took a slightly wrong turn in our woodsy walk yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI don't see a lot of wildlife which is a bit sad. I'm in a rural area, but live "in town" so aside from birds (LOTS of those, including bald eagles all. the. time.) I don't see much aside from domesticated dogs and cats.
ReplyDeleteYay for sunny walks, cooler temperatures on the way, and lovely companionship.
How wonderful that Hannah is not as reactive anymore!
ReplyDeleteI often see tiny lizards on my walks, and sometimes burrowing owls. Once in a while, I glimpse a bunny! There are iguanas and gopher tortoises around here but I haven't seen any on my walks.
Oh, and sometimes I see ibis and egrets.
DeletePlease settle into autumnal vibes up there! We can't get a cool down unless cool air comes down from the north.
ReplyDeleteGood for Hannah! It just goes to show- so many issues in life are temporary. Just because she's afraid of the yard decorations one year doesn't mean it will be every year.
On my trail runs I see rabbits, but i don't usually see wildlife on my normal walks. Definitely not livestock!
We see so many rabbits, ground squirrels, and squirrels that they don't even seem notable to me! We don't see livestock on my regular walks because we're in town, but it would be an unusual day I wouldn't see horses and/or cows on my way to and from school on my commute.
DeleteSuch a milestone for Hannah! I think yesterday was our last super-hot day. I hope.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually see animals beyond birds and squirrels and rabbits on my walks, unless we drive to the trail where there are horses at the beginning.
I'm with you. Occasionally I'll see something beyond birds, squirrels, rabbits, and ground squirrels, but not very often. I saw a muskrat once in the river and got super excited about it.
DeleteSpeaking as someone who spends a lot of time with a reactive dog, it's so rewarding to see them make progress.
ReplyDeleteThe last person that I went on a walk with? If dog walks count, then it's Hubs. If dog walks don't count then that would be Elisabeth!
All walks count, Birchie! Especially dog walks!
DeleteA good walk can improve almost any situation.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I forgot about that word, "futzed." Appropriating that from your blog.
I used futzed instead of a more coarse term. Because I'm classy (obviously).
DeleteI don’t generally see wildlife on my walks, but I did see swans in the lake when I ran around it Sunday morning on Notre Dame’s campus. Really pretty setting to walk or run.
ReplyDeleteI have walked with Coach recently. We sometimes do an evening walk- always a nice time to reconnect. Over the summer I walked with Mini a few times.
Ha ha. I don't think I've ever written about my campus visit to Notre Dame in the late '90s. The students were like automatons, no one was talking with their friends or throwing a frisbee around, the tech in the very crumbling building was not working and the ceiling tiles in the classroom were water stained and look precarious, and while it was somewhat attractive on the outside, I was so put off by everything I saw there! I believe it was lovely running around a lake with swans, but I can't help but worry about all Notre Dame students.
DeleteI saw a squirrel on my walk this morning. And sometimes we see deer. They don't feel very wild, though. Not that I'd want to be bitten by any of them.
ReplyDeleteHa! I wouldn't want to be bitten by anything, wild or not.
DeleteThe main animal wildlife we see on our walks around the neighoburhood would be the water rats down near the beach, sometimes some lizards, once early in the morning I saw a fox. This morning on my run I saw a bird I hadn't seen in the area before. I looked it up and it was Red-rumped parrot.
ReplyDeleteYay, for Hannah becoming less reactive. I suppose it will make this year a lot easier if she can tolerate people's Halloween decorations. Riley doesn't like builders tape that flaps in the wind. Last year he was freaked out by some black cat decorations stuck into someone's lawn, but only for the first time he passed them. They have these big freakish spiders on their fence this year but they don't bother Riley.
I've seen foxes, raccoons, and opossums a couple of times on my nightly walks with Hannah, but I try to avoid them if at all possible. I am nervous about animals that I think could take Hannah down. We NEVER see lizards. That's a real treat for us since we're not a warm weather climate! I'm jealous that you see them somewhat regularly.
DeleteWe see sooo many bunnies which are probably the ones that eat my flowers. lol. Our dog was scared of the Halloween decorations last year but isn't fazed by them this year. I must admit to missing two walking days, as I was traveling.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be traveling this weekend and I'm curious how I will fit in walking. I'm sure I can do it, though!
DeleteI’m glad Hannah isn’t as scared of those stupid decorations anymore! The first year we had Mulder, he would FREAK out, but after that he was pretty chill. I love seeing her happy face with the good weather.
ReplyDeleteI don’t see a lot of wildlife on my walks, unless I go to a park that has turtles. I have seen river otters, deer, ducks, geese, herons, turkeys, and once an opposum. But generally it’s just song birds and crows.
She's been so silly recently. I think the cooler weather is making Hannah a very happy dog. I always forget how lethargic she is over summer until I take her out for an after work walk on the first cool day and she has crazy zoomies.
DeleteWe were sitting on our deck last weekend when something startled our neighborhood flock of turkeys. They all took off for the trees, landing on top of some 100' high maples and perching up there in the uppermost branches for the next half hour. I have never seen that before and always thought turkeys couldn't really fly. Apparently I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteLove the many photos of your walk and the weather looks lovely. Very warm. It has not been this warm here.
ReplyDeleteI saw a dead frog on the road. Many water fowl. Livestock not so much. I am hoping to come across some deer. And you can hear the boars all the time so I am surprised I haven't crossed them yet.
I wish I'd been along on your walk with your SIL and Dr. BB. Complaining about the legislature? I'M IN!
