It's Cool Blogger Walking Club (CBWC) time. Hosted by Elisabeth, we're trying for ten minutes of intentional movement every day.
Tuesday, October 14 - A couple of walks with my girl Hannah and one of them was a family walk with Dr. BB, too. But I think you all know what made me sad.
Wednesday, October 15 - More walks with Hannah. It's always dark, though, for the poor dear.
Hannah: No
"Hannah, come on. No one's coming."
Hannah: Fine. But I'm mad about it.
Thursday, October 16 - One morning walk with Hannah, but the more fun walk was on campus today. I needed to go to the Fieldhouse for an activity with my freshman seminar (we do a wheelchair basketball activity and it's so much fun) and it's quite a hike from my office. But my work schedule has BEEN INSANE, so it was nice to have time blocked off to actually do the commute.
On the way back to my office, I chatted with one of my students about the activity and what he had learned and it was the highlight of a pretty terrible week.
Friday, October 17 - A couple of walks with Hannah the Dog. The park where we regularly walk is doing a haunted hike tonight and tomorrow and they were setting up while we were on our walk. I thought the people in costumes would be a problem for her, but it turns out that the wooden Frankenstein's Monster is what she could not deal with.
Don't worry. Five minutes later she had forgotten her terror.
Saturday, October 18 - So many beautiful walks with the dog. I love a Saturday when I can let her sniff all she wants.
Sunday, October 19 - A few lovely walks with my lovely girl. I let her roll around in whatever she wanted because got a bath, too.
Mary Oliver has a poem called "If You Are Holding This Book":
if you are holding this book you should know
that of all the sights I love in this world—
and there are plenty—very near the top of
the list is this one: dogs without leashes.
I wish Hannah could be off leash more because she is so happy when she can run around like a little lunatic.
Monday, October 20 - A few walks with Hannah, but I forgot to take a photo. Here's Zelda. She never gets to go for walks outside.
****************
Have you been to any spooky October places this year? Haunted houses? Haunted woods? My creepy basement?
I love that poem! And all the photos of lovely Hannah. Thanks for including Zelda too. Years ago when the kids were little, we had an indoor/outdoor cat, Tiger. Sometimes in the evening we would go for walks around the block, and Tiger would actually accompany us. Of course it was on his own terms (we didn't have him on a leash- that would be preposterous).
ReplyDeleteSorry it was a hard week- I'll bet the walks helped : )
I used to put Zelda on a leash to take her for walks. She's terrified of the outdoors, though, so I stopped doing it because she's so much happier inside.
DeleteTime outside with Hannah always helps! She's my best girl.
You must be the champion of this club.
ReplyDeleteShe is :)
DeleteIt's not a competition!
DeleteHannah looks great. She obviously loves her walks.
ReplyDeletePiper, my solo cat, is permitted outdoors in the morning while I feed the blue jays. He wanders a bit in our yard and the neighbor's hydrangea, and then is usually pretty good about coming back to the porch on command. Usually. There are times when I have to shepherd him. And I have a piece of lattice for a barrier across the front porch so that he can hang out there, sometimes unchaperoned.
Zelda looks well. How is she feeling these days?
Oh, Piper. You're living quite a privileged life!
DeleteZelda's great! We changed her food a few months back and are trying to dial it in the right combo of amount/keeping her weight at a good place. But, honestly, I couldn't expect better health from a kitty her age!
I don't put up a SINGLE outside decoration. I know...very boring and lame. But it's fun to see what other people put up and then I don't have to buy or store them!
ReplyDeleteThree cheers for all your walking and Hannah is such a star, whether she wants to accept the limelight or not. I love your imagined conversations. I would read a whole book of dialogues between you and
Our outdoor decorations are solely lights. And our house looks creepy as all get out. It's the one time of year our inability to keep up with the insanity that is our jungle of a yard works to our advantage.
DeleteThese are not imagined conversations, Elisabeth. They are all too real. It's just that Hannah can't vocalize them. Doesn't mean she's not saying them with her eyes and body.
At least Zelda isn't coyote bait. There is a fairly acrimonious running debate in our neighbourhood Facebook group about outdoor cats.
ReplyDeleteDogs in full run look so happy and goofy and wonderful.
I took out the Halloween decorations to get the carving stuff out for Davis when the kids were here doing their pumpkins, and then I took out some decorations but it just seems sort of sad and lame with no kids living here. I do put some out with the pumpkin so kids know to trick or treat here on Halloween night.
I love the four stylized student statues so much.
Honestly, the cat conversations are tough. Cats are huge predators and, outside of farms and ranches, I don't think they should be outside unsupervised. AND their own lives are cut short when they are outside. But people will get so amped up that THEIR cat should be allowed outside. It's not a fun discussion. Fortunately, Zelda has ZERO interest in outdoors, so I don't have to worry about her.
DeleteWe have all our decorations out and we don't have kids. It's just a fun thing to do!
Mary Oliver is the best!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen too many spooky things around here, but the leaves are all pretty gorgeous right now, so I'm enjoying that for sure.
