As a reminder, my husband pays the "big bills" like mortgage, phone, and electricity. I pay for groceries and the pets and that somehow evens things out.
Eating out ($20.46, .9%) - This was just coffee a couple of times and lunch once.
Entertainment ($86, 4%) - I started a Spotify subscription, so we'll see if I keep that. I also had a couple of adventures with Anne, and bought an audiobook.
Bills ($133.36, 6.2%) - Home and car insurance.
Personal care ($142.54, 6.6%) - Mostly makeup.
Savings ($200, 9.2%) - It is what it is.
Cars ($217, 10%) - New tags for one of the cars and way too much gas.
Gifts ($251.30, 11.6%) - Grad gift, stamps (PSA - First-class stamps are going up in price from 73 cents to 78 cents on July 13, so stock up now)
Pets ($358.91, 16.6%) - Food, litter, Hannah's $$$ probiotic. It's just costs so much to have pets.
Groceries ($754.64, 34.9%) - This isn't all of it. Dr. BB did the Costco run and he ran to the store twice while I was out of town.

How much do you spend eating out each month?
Thanks for the PSA on postage. You just put some money back in my wallet!
ReplyDeleteWe're not eating out as often these days because yikes. I do eat out when I travel, but I categorize those meals as a travel expense.
Right? Eating out is so expensive. I look at the price of a sandwich or burger and think I can do that at home for a fraction of the price! Sheesh.
DeleteWe normally get takeout once a week, which is expensive enough. Every once in a while my husband and I go out to an actual restaurant. But for the month of June I personally spent $0 on meals out, since I'm doing this diet. My daughter still got takeout and my husband was traveling so he ate out a lot- so we still spent plenty on food.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be traveling a lot this month, so I foresee a lot of eating out expenses. I'll still try to always have a homemade breakfast, though. No need to spend money when yogurt and granola are easily accessible everywhere.
DeleteUgh I must start paying attention to this again. I tried to go to the store as needed for a couple of weeks instead of doing a big weekly shop, and it was WAY MORE EXPENSIVE. Soooo this week, I did a huge grocery order (2 actually, including Costco) and am going to see how long I can go before we need a stock up. My goal is next weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt is more expensive the more often you go, I think. It's that way with Costco for us. If we go once a quarter we might spend $300, but if we go every month, it's like $150-$200 for each trip. SO MUCH MORE. Alas, we're going once a month right now because we pick up the dog's prescription there and we can only get 30 days at a time.
DeleteHow much do you spend eating out each month? Zero. We don't go out to eat more than 3x per year, cook at home instead.
ReplyDeleteI don't eat out much, either. But I do enjoy a coffee drink or two or three every month!
DeleteWe rarely eat out or do takeout. Our appetites are so variable and flighty that we can't get it together to decide, and food around us isn't really worth the money. Plus, I am ridiculously picky. I'd rather do it myself.
ReplyDeleteI wonder about getting a probiotic for Marlowe, my female cat who has become a very light eater lately. Why is Zelda on one, if you don't mind sharing, and which do you use?
Zelda has tummy issues for lots of reasons, including eating her own fur, particularly right now with shedding season in full force and because she either has a slow-moving stomach cancer or kitty IBS (we haven't done the diagnostic tests because the treatment is basically the same). Anyway, she's been on a probiotic for years. We give her Proviable DC and it does seem to have helped. We just sprinkle a capsule on her food once a day (she gets wet food, so we can just stir it into the food).
DeletePets = Expensive. :(
ReplyDeleteWe have dinner out every Friday, and it’s usually a nice dinner with cocktails and appetizers. So we spend a lot. Friday is my husband’s day to feed us though, so he pays. If it were me it would be cheaper places. June was spendy on the restaurant front, because I was on vacation and we ate in lots of places, and kind of took turns paying.
July is going to be spendy for me, too. I guess we'll find out just how spendy as the month progresses. I can't tell if I'm going to be doing fun travel or serious family issue travel, so depending on which type of travel, it will be more or less.
DeleteI used to love eating out, but after several bad experiences, I have trust issues. Thanks for the info about stamps! I'm off to buy a few books!
ReplyDeleteI bought a whole roll and am contemplating going back for another roll before the price increases. We'll see!
DeleteI couldn't have told you the price of a postage stamp even if a gun were pointed at my head, so I have learned at least one new thing today thanks to your blog.
ReplyDeleteHuh. Well, it turns out that I send a lot of mail, so this does matter to me!
DeleteJust sitting here staring out the window, thinking about the golden days when a stamp was 25 cents.
ReplyDeleteWe eat out way more frequently than I like. Probably once a week with the family, and then sometimes there are friend lunches in there too. This week I already have a lunch planned with a friend. I wish I had better ideas for getting together with friends/acquaintances than eating, but I do not, especially in this heat.
My friends and I play a game about what is the cheapest you remember gas prices being. I have memories of 77.9 cents a gallon. Imagine those prices today!
DeleteI was going to say I spend zero eating out, but then remembered that I go for lunch with the girls every once in a while, including later this week. So not zero! But not a whole lot. I'll probably end up spending like $25 this week, and that's probably it for the month.
ReplyDeleteI treat myself to expensive salads when I go into the office. I used to pack a lunch but I go in so infrequently now that I travel fairly often so I have gotten in the habit of just buying lunch. Phil’s lunches are way cheaper since he usually just gets a sandwich from pot belly or something like that. He buys his lunch every day. But beyond that, we don’t eat out often. They get a take and bake pizza when I travel and occasionally we will get take out but that is probably once every 1-2 months. My book club typically meets at a restaurant and that can be a pricey meal as we tend to get some aps to share + desserts to share. But I eat out so infrequently so do not feel bad about one more expensive meal each month.
