My Summer Wardrobe - What I Wore Last Week

Who wants a roundup of the clothes I wear?! If not, no worries. Skip this entire post.

Wednesday, June 25 - It's hot, friends. I regretted the sleeves almost immediately. Weird day. I started out with a dentist appointment and ran into the office for about an hour and a half. I spent the rest of the day working from home and dealing with a dog who wasn't feeling well, so I had to take her outside approximately eight times.
Dress: Toad & Co. (purchased on extreme clearance in the off-season and is no longer on their site)
Shoes: Mephisto Helen

Thursday, June 27 - Still really hot. We had an orientation event at work, so I was meandering everywhere on campus. No bueno. Also, my hair stayed down for approximately two seconds. ALSO ALSO the computer lab was SO HOT that I almost melted into my students. (I did not wear the flip flops to work. I wore the sandals I wore yesterday. I wore the flip flops to walk the dog because the rain makes everything wet.)
Dress: Happy Earth Midi Dress from last year (no longer on their site)
Shoes: Vionic flip flops

Friday, June 27 - The floors in our office are being waxed, so it's a work from home day for the entire office. No makeup, no jewelry, my hair hasn't been washed in four days, and my husband is STILL IN MADISON for his conference, so I officially DGAF.
Dress: Wool& Ava Fit & Flare - Lovely dress - very cool and flattering. Unfortunately, it is too low cut for someone with my assets, so I have to wear a cami under it to wear it to work which makes it less cool and ruins the lines. Perfect for a WAH day, but not ideal if I'm going to meeting in person with anyone.
Shoes: Mephisto Helen (in black instead of brown)

Saturday, June 29 - Adventure day with Anne! It was actually a really nice day for our adventure, which was a fun boat trip on Lake Geneva, along with a tour of a lovely old summer "cottage." I slathered myself up in in sunscreen and it was fun.
Dress: Toad & Co. (another one I ordered on super clearance in the off-season and is no longer on their site) - This dress has an annoying slit, so while I would like to wear it to work, I do not because it frequently shows too much leg. Anne suggested I tack it down with a well-placed stitch or three. I might do that!
Shoes: Mephisto Helen

Sunday, June 29 - This was the one and only time I left the house, which was to go to the grocery store to buy sweet potatoes, which I needed to make for the dog.  This dress is too short for work and doesn't have pockets (all the rest of the dresses shown DO have pockets), so it's reserved for days like today when I all I was doing was making sweet potatoes and granola, doing housework (mostly laundry and vacuuming), and catching up on my blog.
Dress: Mata Traders (years ago - they do seem to have more offerings with pockets these days)
Shoes: Mephisto Helen

Monday, June 30 - The thermostat in my office says 74.5, but it feels closer to 88 in here. I forgot to take a photo before I left the house this morning.
Dress: Happy Earth Lily Midi Dress (Paradise is the print)
Shoes: Mephisto Helen

Tuesday, July 1 - Back in my office because the morning light was harsh this morning. It's still hot, but it didn't feel punishing on my walk with Hannah this morning.
Dress: Happy Earth Isla Midi Dress (pattern is Les Fleurs) - I like this dress, but wish the V-neck wasn't quite so deep. I have to wear a cami under it and I don't love that look. Oh, well. The dress is cream/ivory and I only have white camisoles and the white makes the cream look dirty, so I have been wearing a brown one. I'd like to get a green or cream camisole, but I think you all know that I'm not going to actually take action on that.
Shoes: Mephisto Helen

Wednesday, July 2 - Back in my office because I forgot I was doing this. I only have one more daily summer dress in my closet - it's a way too short sheath dress without pockets I've owned since high school. It's perfect and I love it, but it really is reserved for days when I stay at home. I have a couple of cocktail dresses that are summery, but you're basically looking at my whole wardrobe.
Dress: Boden - This is from several years back. I fell for Boden's greenwashing and purchased this dress thinking it was an ethical purchase. Boden is terrible to its employees, though, so I wouldn't buy it today. However, since I already have it, I am going to wear it until it falls apart.

***************
For the wedding I am going to in early August, I am considering wearing one of the Happy Earth midi dresses (Thursday or Monday) with a duster I have. You can see the outfit I wore for our wedding anniversary when I'm wearing one of the dresses with this duster.

Thoughts? Do you have a preference for which dress would be more wedding-y? Should I try to find something else? (I am not opposed to buying a new dress, but if I want to do so, I should get started looking now.)

  1. I like the Thursday dress with the duster, perfect for a Santa Cruz wedding!

    1. Is the duster skirting the "don't wear white/cream" to a wedding rule? I say no because the dress is obviously not white, but it seems like it might raise eyebrows.

    2. I suspect a Santa Cruz crowd neither knows nor understands that rule, and if they do, they don’t care about it. Very hippy relaxed, let’s get married in a meadow, vibe. I think you’ll be fine. Just keep a jacket in your car in case the fog comes in, because then it may be 50 degrees with WIND.

  2. Why, YES, I do want a roundup of all the clothes you wear, and this didn't disappoint! You are the queen of cute summer dresses! I also love the dress from Thursday for a wedding - but anything from Happy Earth is gorgeous. I looked at their website and I'm in love!

    1. I love the way Happy Earth hits me and I love that the tops are full coverage. I hope I have sent some business their way because their products are lovely.

Oooh, wear Thursday! It's perfect for a summer wedding! (also, despite wearing literally the same outfit every single day, I am *here* for wardrobe round-ups!)

    2. Honestly, I feel like these ARE the same outfit - a dress and sandals. It's my summer "uniform" and I don't have to think about anything when I get dressed in the morning.

  4. So, you liked the Lake Geneva cruise? Seems like a reasonable price; I may have to check it out. We've only been a couple of times – we stayed overnight for the snow sculpture festival our first winter here, which was a blast – mainly because it's always so crowded.

    1. It was a nice cruise. Anne has a Wisconsin Historical Society membership, so I think she only paid for the price of the boat ride, not the tour. It was like $40 a piece this way? What I liked was that there were only 15-16 of us total in the group, so the tour group wasn't very big. I mean, it was a nice because the weather was pleasant on that day - another ten degrees warmer and it would have been a slog. I had a backpack with a mini cooler in it and I had water for us and that was super helpful.

    2. Thanks! I may take my parents the next time they visit (weather-dependent, of course).

  5. Gosh, you have so many dresses. I only have 2 summer dresses, one mid calf, one long. Mostly I wear loose tops and capris in the summer. I have one pair of shorts but can't possibly be seen in public wearing them.

    1. I refuse to wear pants, especially in the summer. REFUSE. LOL. I can't imagine only two dresses. I'd have to be naked a lot.

  6. I AM HERE FOR THIS CONTENT. I can never get enough of outfit content and this did not disappoint. I love how you wear dresses all the time. My votes for your wedding outfit are either Monday or Thursday. Or Tuesday, if you felt like you could wear it sans camisole. Sexy! I love a wrap dress design, it's just such a universally great look. NOW I WANT TO DO MY OWN POST. Ahhhh your dresses are all so cute and so pocketful!

    1. I worry that the Tuesday dress is too ivory-based for a wedding guest. Also, while this photo makes it look really flattering, the pockets are actually not very well integrated and they ruin the line of the dress. I do not think I'd be comfortable sans cami - who I want to see my cleavage is very limited, it turns out!

I want you to do a post, too. Show us what you wear! Although you change clothes like five times a day, so maybe it's harder for you.

  7. I used to wear a lot of dresses. Now, not. I worry about whether or not they are see-through, and if I have to wear a slip, then forget it. And I don't like anything clingy at all. And I don't want any chafing.
(I'm sorry to sound so crabby; I have a headache. You look lovely in your dresses. And I hope Hannah is okay.)

    1. I have never worried about if a dress is see-through. I wear cotton and wool and never have this concern. I do not own a single slip.

CHAFING. Let's discuss. I wear Jockey Skimmies under all my dresses because otherwise my thighs would certainly chafe. My arms do not chafe, but I wonder what other ladies do in sleeveless dresses if they have problems.

  8. You are so cute and have so many cute dresses. I love them all. I have a similar issue with the neckline of many dresses. Not a lot of places I need to be all boobalicious, you know? Let's see. While any of them would be great, I am also voting for Thursday as the dress you wear to the wedding!

    1. YES! I am constantly telling my husband that it shows too much boob and he does not understand. He says that people will not be looking down my shirt and I don't think they will ON PURPOSE, but I spend a lot of time leaning over working with students in the computer lab and I just like more coverage on top. Unfortunately, that's not always easy to to do, particularly with wrap dresses which I think are really flattering. Won't they think of us medium- to big-chested ladies?

  9. I'm pretty sure that zero people skipped this post. I've purchased more than one dress with a slit skirt because everything else about the dress was cute, and then sewn the slit to the point where it was functional. Sigh, I've also had quite a few tops and dresses that I can only wear with a cami.

    1. Slits and low cut tops are the bane of my existence. So many dresses have them!

  10. Yes! You could totally wear one of those dresses for the wedding, either one, although my preference is Thursday. And, I LOVE the Friday dress- LOVE it. Like, I think I could wear that and it would look good on me. I used to wear dresses all the time, and now I never do. It would be nice to have one that I liked, just in case.
All of these dresses look good on you, even the one where you don't like the fact that you're wearing a brown cami. I wouldn't bother buying one in another color- that one looks just fine.

    1. You would LOVE how cool that Wool& dress is, Jenny. Seriously. It's like wearing nothing. I know the price seems steep, but they have a few different cuts and I think you would get a lot of use out of it.

  11. I like all the dresses of course because you have good taste. Love the Mephisto Helen sandals a lot. For a wedding I'd wear the Isla Midi dress because the softer colors seem like they'd coordinate nicely with anything anyone else wore to the wedding. So y'all will look good in group photos.

    1. I think the light color of the Isla dress makes it a no-go for the wedding. I know it doesn't look bridal, but I don't want people talking about me after the wedding!

  12. Back for a second comment, because I had this in mind yesterday but then I was distracted by wedding attire. I FEEL YOU on the dresses and the boobiness (that’s what Maya and I call it…’is this dress too booby?) AND WE HATE IT. Not enough to get surgery or anything, but women with smaller chests have SO MANY MORE OPTIONS.

    1. YES!! So much boob. I am not even THAT well endowed (D cups, which is not an A or B, but isn't a G or anything crazy - I just looked it it u and D is an average cup size), but so many tops and dresses are too low cut for me! Oh, well. I try to tell myself that all bodies are perfect.

  13. I love your dresses. I am crazy about summer dresses. I have several, some probably need to be removed from my closet. I hear you on the cami under certain dresses, and I'm laughing at how Julie and Maya call a dress 'too booby'. As a very flat chested person, I have to say that having too little in that department can also pose a problem because then the V sometimes lands weird or too deep or collapses sort of. Anyway, you look great in your dresses, and as you know, I love your Mephisto sandal choice. Those rock.

I like the Thursday choice for the wedding or the earth day one. Maybe the Thursday one will be better, because the black color might cause you to overheat in the sun? I hope the wedding is so much fun. Looking forward to hearing about it.

    1. I ask my husband if clothes show too much boob all the time. It is definitely the plight of the modern lady.

I think I'm leaning towards Thursday. I don't think it will be that hot (at least, not as humid as it has been here in the Midwest recently)!
