First up, I'd like to say that it was Flag Day. For complicated reasons, I did not attend any No Kings protests, but I was there in spirit. And we are bound and determined in our household to reclaim the flag for the good guys.
Then! I was off to the Farmer's Market. For a variety of reasons, I have not yet been to the Market since it has been outdoors this season. I rectified it by buying snap peas, honey, and delicious gluten-filled rolls.
Then, because I am the person I am, I took a selfie with a person in a cow costume. I'd also like to say that the person in the cow costume must have been SWELTERING because it was not a cool day.
We'll get to the reason for the cow in a second.
Up next, I saw there was a book sale at the library across the street. Unfortunately, I had spent every one of my $55 in cash at the Market, so I didn't stop by.
Then I took my Market goods back home and picked up Dr. BB to head to the museum because it was Dairy Day at the Mooseum again! There were cows, root beer floats, and children doing races on mini-ATVs? I'm not really sure what that last part was about. The cow at the Market was promoting this event.
I went home to clean the litter box and bathe the dog and then I collapsed on the couch reading a very good book while I dreamed about staying home for the rest of the day.
But after dinner Dr. BB and I headed over to the community center to go to their Cheese Louise event that was all about cheese? I don't know. There was a new art exhibit opening featuring paintings of cows and I desperately want one that has a price tag of $3800, so I think you know I'm not getting it. You can see some of the art in the below photo, although not my beloved $3800 one. ANYWAY, there was a chef doing a cooking demo, so we watched that.
Then I went to water the plants for a friend who is out of town and then I went home and collapsed into bed. I mean, what a day in Small Town America.
*This is a reference to a beloved song by Hal Ketchum that has the immortal line "Lucy, you know the world must be flat/Cuz when people leave town, they never come back."
Sunday we did laundry and I only left the house to walk the dog and have her do things like this when SHE JUST GOT A BATH YESTERDAY.
Those of you who want to know what Zelda's up to, I don't want to disappoint you. Let me just tell you, it's too hot for my precious girl. (The reason there aren't more Zelda photos on this blog is because she basically just does this all the time.)
*****************
And that's that. What fun summertime event did you do this weekend?
You might be at home on the range where the deer and antelope roam along with the cows. 🤓
ReplyDeleteI mean, I live in a TOWN!
DeleteCheese Louise!!! I am all about this.
ReplyDeleteStepdog was a lovely, well behaved dog, but she hated baths and was an absolute terror in the tub. As soon as the bath was done, she would launch a campaign to roll as much as possible to get her stink back.
Hannah is really terrible about baths, too. *sigh* She really is a good dog, but she's such a pill about the water. Oh, well. She'll eventually learn to love it, right?
DeleteI can't stop laughing about Cheese Louise.
ReplyDeleteI mean, when I think of Wisconsin I do think of dairy products and this did not disappoint! I do often think of people in mascot costumes on hot days and hope they don't dehydrate.
What a lovely weekend! Rex got groomed last week and the very first thing he did after getting home from the groomers was roll in the grass. Oh well. He got his fur shaved quite close, which helps in the heat. It's hard being a black dog in the summer!
We went to a friend's 60th birthday this weekend and it was a blast!
I'm glad to know Hannah's not the only dog rolling around after a bath. There must be something innate about it!
DeleteYay for birthday parties! I think I want to do a party this year for my birthday. I wonder if I can convince my husband to plan one.
This just screams Wisconsin and summer! Sadly I didn't do any summertime events this weekend. I had briefly thought about going to the protest in Tampa (we were there for the day and my friend was going) but my eye still wasn't all better, and I had laryngitis by that point, so... blah. It's too hot in Florida for summertime events.
ReplyDeleteLaryngitis, too! Oh, no. You need to go home and sleep for three days and let your body heal. That's a lot.
DeleteCows! I like cows, real and pretend. Your small town has it going on. We didn't do much of anything outside this past weekend, too humid and buggy. Plus no Flag Day celebrations here.
ReplyDeleteI think we were the only ones in our neighborhood celebrating Flag Day. There's Juneteenth coming up this week, too. We don't regularly put out our flag so this is a lot for us.
DeleteEven doing nothing, Zelda is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI had lunch with a friend on Saturday and we pretended we were knitting to celebrate Worldwide Knit in Public Day, though honestly we would have been knitting anyway.
Well, knitting in public is a true declaration of your belief in Worldwide Knit in Public Day!
DeleteYour weather has been so different from ours! It has been so cold and rainy. We were cooped up all day on Saturday but it cleared up in time for our friend's daughter's grad party - although I wore jeans, and cowl-necked tunic, and a rain jacket - which is not what I thought I would wear for a June grad party... We had our first farmer's market visit on Sunday but since we are out of town for a good chunk of this week camping, I didn't buy anything. But the sugar snap peas looked very good! The boys and I all got treats.
ReplyDeleteOH NO!! It was a GORGEOUS weekend. I can't believe it was cold and rainy by you. That's terrible because June weather should be PERFECT. I am so sad for you.
DeleteI am Zelda in the summer. 💜
ReplyDeleteHer life isn't so bad, you know?
DeleteI had the Ketchum song playing in my head through this whole post -- such a fun happy song!
ReplyDeleteYour small town times sound so wholesome and fun. What cheese related food did they make during the cooking demo? And did you taste it? (Am 99.99% sure Dr. BB would not have, unless it was a demo particular to his food requirements.)
Love the Hannah and Zelda cameos. My cat is also quite furry and he will only sit on a lap for so long before seeking out a cooler spot to nap. Like the lamp cords on the floor in the corner of my office. Super comfy apparently.
They made baked camembert, queso, and some grits. The grits were SO GOOD and so was the baked cheese. I didn't eat the queso because there was meat in it. Thumbs way up. The guy doing the demo was funny and charming and made it fun.
DeleteEventually the kitten will seek only truly comfy spots to sleep. He'll figure it out.
There was so much to do in your neck of the woods. I'm laughing at BECAUSE I AM THE PERSON THAT I AM - great selfie. I can imagine those costumes are so hot and sweaty. Yuck. Bummer the art wasn't more affordable.
ReplyDeleteWe visited the pool Sunday and all ten of us played volleyball after dinner, well technically after the golf on TV was over (I don't even know the name of the tournament, because I am someone who finds golf more boring than watching paint dry, so I didn't participate). If only we'd set up the tripod and video camcorder (yes, I still have one), because our volleyball game was downright entertaining. We were dying laughing at times. Then a toddler walked by with his dad - the little guy was probably like 18 mos or younger and he kept waving to us and calling HI! even after he was well past our house and we had to stop our game multiple times to greet him. He was that cute.
There was some more affordable art, but I liked the $$$ one, obviously.
DeleteAre you not the kind of person who would take a selfie with a mascot? I just assumed everyone would, but maybe that's not true.
SO MUCH COW STUFF IN THIS POST! I am here for it! You bought pretty much what I would have gotten. I use a lot of honey and I adore sugar snap peas. And I definitely would have taken a photo with that cow (and probably so many more). Could you cuddle with any real cows? Because if you could, I would have never left.
ReplyDeleteZydrunas came over for Father's Day, and I spent a lot of Quality Time with him. Sam is sick, so we all couldn't get together. Rick and I hung out at the brewery for a couple of hours. We were at the lake on Friday and took a boat ride. Saturday it rained.
Love seeing Hannah and Zelda as usual. Hannah is very quiet when she rolls around; Z always grunts and growls.
Nance, you COULD pet and cuddle the cows if you asked the cow's farmer friend for permission. It turns out that I am scared of the sheer size of cows, so I just admire from afar and tell them they are beautiful and I appreciate all they do for us humans. You would have LOVED it, though.
DeleteHannah is very quiet in general. I know people think I'm exaggerating, but Zelda is a thousand times louder than the Hannah. That cat is LOUD and chatty.
This looks like the perfect small-town weekend. I'm always glad to see cows and people in cow costumes! I'm glad you could enjoy the festivities. I'm with Zelda and can't do anything when it's hot. We spent time with my parents on Sunday and enjoyed walking through their beautiful yard.
ReplyDeleteSo many people siding with Zelda here. I mean, I guess she does have a great life!
DeleteOoh, your weekend makes me jealous - I love a small town Saturday. Also: I was watching the Hannah video and my hound heard it, ran over wagging his tail and then threw himself on the floor on his back in a Snoopy dance! Were those birds, or crickets chirping - or both? Whatever they were, he loved it!
ReplyDeleteIt's just birds, to be honest. That's how it always sounds here! I'm glad your doggo liked it - I love it when they waggle around on their backs (obviously).
DeleteEveryone should know at least one cow, ha. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteI don't know these cows personally, but I did thank them for their service to humans.
DeleteUnbelievably, I did not go to the farmers market OR Dairy Days OR the cow parade OR the cheese crawl...all things I'd wanted/planned to do! Only because we have houseguests arriving this week and there was way too much to do to prepare for their visit. Every year this rolls around, every year I swear I'm going, and then every year I miss out. I told Tara we are setting aside this week next year and ONLY planning this one Saturday in small town America!
ReplyDeleteIt was an INSANE day in town. We just kept running into things to do. It was a perfect small town day and I think you absolutely should prioritize it next year!
DeleteThis sounds like the perfect small-town weekend. Like, I could imagine ALL of these events happening in Stars Hollow!
ReplyDeleteI would have had such a hard time passing up the book sale!
