Five for Friday, Edition #21: Sweet Dreams Are Made of These

Every day this week, I woke up and told my husband my dreams. Here they are.

1) An iguana bit me on the lip.

Not much background to this one. I'm in some tropical location and I'm freaking out over giant iguanas and one falls out of a tree and bites me.

2) I was ordering breakfast at Taco Bell.

Damn. Such a boring dream. I've never eaten breakfast at Taco Bell. I can't remember the last time I was even at a Taco Bell. But the dream was that I was ordering breakfast and I couldn't figure out the right thing to order and even typing this is boring.

3) Dr. BB and I were dancing. We were dressed up like we were at a wedding but no one else was there. and we were dancing to "It's My Life" by Bon Jovi. I was really animated by the "Like Frankie said I did it my way" line. There was a disco ball.

4) I was swimming in melted vanilla ice cream.

5) I had my ongoing dream about this guy from high school (HI MICAH!) being my equestrian coach. I don't know what this one means, but I have it a lot.

BONUS: Zelda was the small spoon to Hannah's big spoon. My girls do not touch. This was truly a dream.

Do you remember your dreams? Are they exciting or mundane? Do your pets cuddle?

  1. I don’t remember many dreams and not for long when I do.

    1. The key to this exercise was to tell my husband about the dreams as soon as I woke up. Otherwise they drift away and I don't remember them.

  2. I'm with Anvilcloud. I either don't have or don't remember my dreams, except for once in a while. It's all very mundane stuff. I need to step up my dream game to ordering breakfast at Taco Bell.

When Doggo plays with her doggy friends, they're all go. I'd love to see her cuddle up with her dog buddies.

    1. It's so mundane and silly, isn't it? Taco Bell of all places!!

Does Doggo go to daycare? I wonder if she ever rests with her pals there.

  3. I have been dreaming SO much lately. What's up with that? I never write them down and so I forget all of them within a few hours, but it has been crazy to me. Why the uptick?
I used to have nightmares a lot as a kid (multiple times a month?), and I have literally NEVER had either of my kids wake up with a nightmare. I cannot believe it. Don't all kids have nightmares? I have memories of my dad getting out of bed, getting me a cup of water, and tucking me back into bed. In almost every single one of my nightmares my dad died. I can still remember the details of several recurrent nightmares about my dad dying. (He is still very much alive, praise the Lord.)
My mom had a lot of nightmares as a kid and in all her nightmares her dad died (sadly, this actually did happen in real life when she was 7) OR there were fires OR there were dragons. This is starting to be quite a tangent, but dreams/nightmares are WILD.

    1. I had nightmares at least a couple of times a week well into my marriage. They all had to do with trauma around my childhood and literally did not stop until my father died. I am so relieved with my mundane Taco Bell dreams these days.

  4. I rarely remember my dreams, but sometimes I will wake up and think "wow, that was a weird dream" but will have no memory of what it was. Unless it's sex related! But that isn't frequent.

    1. I wish I had more sexy dreams, to be honest! They are the best!

  5. Ha ha... your dreams are actually pretty funny! When I do remember mine, they're pretty mundane. Last week I dreamed I had two pet bears named Belle and Indy (haha... wonder where I got those names) but I can't think of any other ones worth noting.
My cats NEVER cuddle, mainly because Charlotte can't stand Muffin. We're just happy that they coexist peacefully (for the. most part.) My dream is for them to at least lie near each other on the same couch, or bed. Actually I know that happened once because I took a photo and it's the home screen on my phone- but I don't think it's ever happened again.

    1. I really thought Hannah and Zelda would someday become cuddle buddies, but I guess that's for me to dream about. Poor Muffin. All she wants is to be friends with Charlotte. (Hannah is Muffin in our house. She'd cuddle poor Zelda to death if Zelda let her.)

  6. I think I'd love to swim in melted ice cream but the shower off would be essential! I can remember bits and pieces of dreams sometimes. I wish I was better with it..

    1. The key is that I have to tell my husband my dreams the first thing when I wake up. Good morning! Here was my dream. It must be awesome to be married to me.

  7. I remember bits of dreams, but not the whole plot line. I had one cat that cuddled, one cat that couldn't be bothered.

    1. Right? I want to know more about the iguana dream. Where was I? Why were there so many iguanas? I want the whole dream, not just the random fragment I remember.

  8. I feel like the strangest dreams are sometimes the boring ones because you wake up and you think, "Wait was that a dream or just yesterday?"
I do remember dreams. I get very annoyed sometimes if I wake up before the storyline in my dreams play out. I often do have very memorable dreams. Last night I had one that involved riding a gondola and suddenly the sides of the gondola folded out so that we were all forced to lie back and we found ourselves staring at the very ornate ceiling of a cathedral. Or maybe a church. I woke up before we found out where we were going.

    1. Oh, man! I'm so jealous of your exotic gondola dream. I just don't remember anything like that!

  9. I usually have either weird dreams (wait, I was carrying that baby and then it was a leopard cub?) or stress dreams. The other night I dreamed I was supposed to be flying home from somewhere and I had the wrong purse, and couldn't find the one with my ID and ticket in it, and it felt so real and was so stressful that it woke me! But I also dreamed that I was with a very good friend who lives far from me and I hugged her, and that was really nice.

    1. OMG! The pregnancy dreams. WHY?! I don't want to have these dreams. They freak me out!

Awww...you hugged your friend. I like that.

  10. I do not tend to remember my dreams. I think lately I haven't been sleeping soundly enough to dream since I've been up so much with Will. The last time I dreamed and remembered it, it was during a long nap where I slept so hard! Your dreams are very very unique!!!

    1. Ordering breakfast at Taco Bell is not unique. It's boring and dumb and why is my brain doing boring and dumb things IN MY SLEEP?

I wish you deep sleep this weekend. Everyone deserves good sleep.

  11. I dream a lot during the full moon. It has always affected me that way - and guess what, tomorrow is a full moon! I have several recurring dreams. One of my favorites is that I'm discovering that I can fly. I run and jump and then stay airborne for a bit, then come back down and try again, and it goes on and on. I can never fully fly, but the intervals in the air get longer and longer.

    1. Yes, I sometimes have a flying dream, too. It's the same thing - I hop for longer and longer periods of time and soon I can hop over large bodies of water. LOL. We humans are predictable, I guess, even in our dreams.

  12. I once had a dream that I was buying groceries at the grocery store. I go to the grocery store so often that I am surprised I don’t dream this more often. My dreams are mostly mundane, which pisses me off because it’s a DREAM, couldn’t it be that I flew to France for the weekend? (In a plane, or on my own, it’s a DREAM) or am having lunch with one (or both) of my parents, or that all of my dogs are together with me? WTH BRAIN! Ugh. I feel you, is what I’m saying.

I love the dancing with your husband dream, that is lovely and fun. More dreams like that, please.

Occasionally my brain steps up its game and I dream of David Bowie. This has been going on since High School, and did not stop when he died. One more recent dream was that he was in my house, rehearsing for a concert with a few of his bandmates, and he sent me and my BFF to the store because he wanted s’mores after. Ted and Maya stayed home to watch the rehearsal. Another time we were in a car, driving on a windy road high above the ocean (lots of those in California) and he took a wrong turn and as we plunged down toward our watery demise I said, “Oh no, we’re going to die!” And he said, “It’s OK Love, we’re already dead.” Somehow that was soothing to me.

    3. The absolute mundanity of going to the grocery store in your dream!! I would be SO MAD about that. Give me a break from the day-to-day in my sleep, brain.

Celebrities in your dreams! I do not have those types of dreams. How fun that you get to hang out with David Bowie, even if the dream does have a morbid ending.

  13. I once had a series of Harrison Ford dreams many years ago. It was odd, but they were pretty good.
I have dreams almost every night, but I remember very little of them. When I am very stressed, I have the same kind of dream: I'm driving at a high rate of speed and I can't slow down or completely control the car. Often, I'm on a mountain road, very narrow, full of switchbacks. It's terrifying. If I'm mildly stressed, I dream of being back in the classroom.

When I was little, I had several recurring nightmares that were so terrible, I'd wake up crying and calling out for my mother. She'd come get me and make me warm milk with honey and calm me down before putting me to sleep on the couch rather than upstairs in my room again. I still remember those dreams.

    1. I used to have a lot of nightmares/night terrors. I think it speaks well to my current life that my dreams are no longer scary!

My stress dream is that I am back in high school and can't remember my locker combo and I'm going to be tardy. It's ridiculous. I haven't been in high school in decades. Why do our brains dredge this stuff up when we're anxious about something? You'd think our brain would want us to be more relaxed!

  14. Does Taco Bell even HAVE breakfast? Your ongoing dream is so much more interesting than the usuals. I have long stretches of not remembering my dreams and then will have a few days where I remember them. Nothing springs to mind from recently. Oh wait, there was one where I woke up with this song in my head that I thought was brilliant and beautiful and I was a genius composer, and then it turned out to be very similar to an already existing song. But there was a cool line about carrying the memory of someone like the smell of smoke in my hair.

    2. The local Taco Bell here does serve breakfast - I only know because the sign says "breakfast served here." There are breakfast tacos and burritos and hash browns and things. *shrug* I don't know how I know any of that. It must be television commercials, right?

Maybe that dream is secretly telling you that you ARE a genius composer! Have you ever considered it as a second career?

  15. "... who am I to disagree? I travel the world and the seven seas... everybody's looking for something"

AND NOW I have an ear worm :)

  16. Your dreams are making me laugh. I don't always remember my dreams, but I've had some difficulty with night terrors, or maybe I'm being dramatic and they're just really bad nightmares. I think it has something to do with SIBO of the meds I take to deal with SIBO? Rather unpleasant.

A few days ago, I had a dream that Coach decided to hold hands with another woman, but he checked with me first to be sure I was cool with it (big of him). Oddly enough, that didn't count as a night terror - it was unsettling, but not the level of waking up panting and distraught that I sometimes have. I want to swim in vanilla ice cream, damn it.

  17. I am so impressed that a) you dream daily and b) you remember your dreams with enough clarity to describe them for us and c) they all seem fairly pleasant? All of my dreams are nightmares. Horrific things happen in a lot of them. Even the ones that aren't horrific are stressful: the ol' haven't been to class, test is tomorrow dream. Lots of dreams about getting ready for my wedding but not having time to shower or do my hair. Lots of teeth crumbling dreams. Super fun in my head, I'll tell ya.

    1. Yeah, when I'm anxious, I get the forgetting the locker combo or teeth falling out dreams, too. I feel like I'm in a lucky time of life when I am not getting those dreams very often these days. I think it's because I stopped watching the news.

  20. I could talk about dreams with people all damn day. I have very vivid dreams and I almost always remember them. I woke up from a nap a few hours ago and I had this wild dream regarding the leadership off-site meeting I'm having next week. For some reason my mom and my brother joined me! And there was this wild performance put on by a local theater troupe.

I also had a dream last night that I went to this restaurant with a bunch of friends and before you're able to sit down, they spray you with this mist that a) prevents you from getting Covid and b) makes you throw up. Like EVERYONE had to go directly to the bathroom to vom. WHY AM I DREAMING THAT. Then my car was driving weird afterward because all of the tires were flat. There has to be some meaning there. Woof.
