Place I've been this week.
1) Student Union - The university where I work has a beautiful student union. I went there on Monday and Thursday to go to yoga at lunchtime. Don't worry, though, yoga is in a small dark room tucked away in the back, so I wasn't around the action.
2) City Hall - Tuesday was Election Day. I made my husband put out the flag and everything. Friends, Wisconsin SHOWED UP and things went the way the good guys wanted. If you look at it as a referendum of how swing states feel about the current presidential administration, that's good news.
Yes, we vote in the gym.
3) Public Library - On Tuesday after work I ran to the library to return some books and pick up a couple of holds. Good times at the library! (Not to brag, but we have an awesome library. Check out this post if you want to see more.)
4) Community center - I went to the community center after the library to go to a fitness class. It's such a pretty space for it. We do the classes in the bottom level and it looks out over the river.
5) Work - It has been especially bonkers this week and in some ways that really good because the days have flown by. On the other hand, I'd like a minute to breathe occasionally instead of going from one fire to another.
On Wednesday, my office lights just stopped working. Someone lent me a lamp from their office and I just worked in mood lighting all day. Facilities was working on it when I got to my office on Thursday, so it was all fixed pretty quickly and everyone in my office thought it was pretty funny that I was sitting in the dark all day on Wednesday.

Other than your own home, what's a place you've been to this week?
Hmm. I've been sick and we've had weird weather. On Sunday I went to the grocery store. And other than daily walks for CBWC, I have literally been home the rest of the time. Crazy. (I had to cancel all sorts of things because people were sick, so under normal circumstances, I would have been 6 or 8 places!)
ReplyDeleteOther than the grocery store, I honestly don't know if I have been to any other place this week. I am SO boring. I mean, I do daily meanders with Hannah around the neighborhood, but it's not really the same as a destination, is it?
DeleteYour library and community centre are such lovely spaces! I like my library but it's a very utilitarian branch that is connected to an arena/ gym. Well, it gets the job done (I have nine books sitting here right now and two more in transit, eeee).
ReplyDeleteWhere have I been this week? I went to paint night with a friend, and to the nursery yesterday with my husband because IT'S GARDEN SEASON! Dangerous place for me to go, I want all the plants. Other than that, I guess I went to Superstore for groceries and to the greenway to walk Rex. Today I have a girly-girl day, am going to get sugared and then for a pedicure. That's pretty much it!
I am so lucky with our community spaces. I do not take them for granted.
DeleteThe nursery! It is getting to be that time of year. We have some yardwork cleanup that we should have done last weekend, but it was too wet. It's on the agenda for Sunday this weekend!
I'm glad you are back in the land of lighting! Other than running a few errands and going to the chiropractor, I haven't been anywhere this week, but tomorrow I'm meeting friends for lunch (before they come back here for a yarn party), so that will be fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, are you going to give away some of your stash? Is that what a yarn party is?
DeleteI was gifted an absolute ton of yarn and after taking some for me, and sending some to non-local friends, there is still tons left for locals to come see!
DeleteThose are some nice places! And- you're lucky you work on a college campus. And lucky right now that you live in Wisconsin! Good job, Wisconsinites!
ReplyDeleteLet's see... I've been to work, Starbucks, a restaurant where I had lunch with a friend, the grocery store. Oh, and since the restaurant was at the mall, I went to Bath and Body works to use a gift card. That's more places than I normally go in a week!
Ha! I thought coming up with five places I've been in a week would be easy, but it turned out that it was actually sort of hard. I just go to work and home!
DeleteI'm impressed that you went to the mall. That takes some fortitude.
The weather being the weather, we hardly got out at. We did the usual grocery shopping and had our semi frequent coffee and sandwiches in the car at the edge of the park.
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't the weather better? Why is spring so fickle?
DeleteThank you, Wisconsin! Way to show up and step up!
ReplyDeleteThese are some lovely places that you frequent, Engie. And the surrounding areas are so well-kept. It must be a pleasure.
This week I went to my funny grocery store*, Rick and I went to a specialty rug store to pick out a new area rug (we're ripping up the carpet and having our hardwood floor restored in the living room), and we stopped in at our local brewery and had a craft beer and chatted with people there. Oh, and we drove to the lakehouse to drop off a dining table we inherited from Jordan and Jared, who got a new one. And, when the weather and my migraine head permitted, I've been walking.
*This week, my store had a doorstop that read "Welcome Friends Did You Call First?
I am so lucky to live where I live and work where I work. I do not take it for granted.
DeleteI like how all the retired people have busier lives than I do! You and Nicole go places and do things. I really struggled with coming up with five place!
Oh man, I think this week was just work and home for me. Well work, school drop off, and home. We did have a work lunch at a restaurant - but that kind of still feels like work.
ReplyDeleteGood job, Wisconsin!
It was hard for me to find five places, to be honest. It feels a tiny bit like cheating to use two places from my workplace!
DeleteLoved the tour of your places (and glad you have light in your office again!)! This week, I have been to my work office, my orthopedic surgeon's office, the dance studio's parking lot, and will hopefully hit the library after picking up my girl after school. PS: YAY WISCONSIN!
ReplyDeleteWhen voters turn out in Wisconsin, the Dems win. I hope this is a lesson to the Democrats more than the Republicans, to be honest.
DeleteFun question - this week I have been to work and Trader Joe's. I should have gone to the library because I have overdue books, but since my local branch is closed for 2 years for renovations, it's very annoying to get to the library farther away. As Nicole mentioned, it's gardening season, so I have mostly been in my backyard otherwise.
ReplyDeleteUgh. If I had to go to another library branch, it would be SUPER inconvenient. There's one in the town where I work, but I'd definitely have to make a special trip. Hopefully your local branch will open soon and be amazing with all those renovations.
DeleteYay Wisconsin!
ReplyDeleteMy ventures away from home this week were: to see a new dog trainer that we think will help with Doggo's reactivity, the drug store and grocery store, and a restaurant last night. I'm ready to get out of the house this weekend!
I did go to the grocery store, too! I guess that seems so pedestrian, but I am actually interested in other people's shopping habits and if they go to the cheap box store like I do or if they go to fancy schmancy grocery stores like I used to do in Minneapolis.
DeleteGood job Wisconsin! It's nice to hear some good news! And hooray for libraries!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been anywhere, but I'm content being home sweet home!
If I never needed to leave my house, I would totally love that life!
DeleteNo gym voting for me; I vote in a one-room schoolhouse across from a dairy farm because I'm technically in the Town of Koshkonong (though the gym is within walking distance). Doesn't get more Wisconsin than that! And I never take our great spaces for granted either. I feel very lucky to have found this place. :)
ReplyDeleteThat IS a true Wisconsin experience. I love that I can just walk over to vote, though. I didn't walk, unfortunately, because I had to go work, but I have taken Election Day off before. Note to self.
DeleteGo, Wisconsin!
ReplyDeleteYour library is so pretty! I love the columns. The lights thing is so bizarre. How nice that you were able to borrow a lamp, though.
Let's see. I have been to the doctor's office. And the dentist's office. And several grocery stores. I know how to have fun.
The doctor and dentist in ONE WEEK!?! I hope they were routine, boring appointments! That's not a good time.
DeleteTHANK YOU WISCONSIN for giving us all a glimmer of hope.
ReplyDeleteI love all of the yoga and fitness classes available to you through work, that's wonderful.
Where have I been this week? Grocery store, another grocery store, a third grocery store, and a fourth grocery store. Also PetCo to take care of the kitty there waiting for adoption. Tonight I think we're going out to dinner (we do most Fridays). Pretty much daily life around here.
Four different grocery stores?! Sheesh. You are much more hardcore about food than I am, my friend.
DeleteI was at the hospital for a scope this week. And the next day, to my favorite market! Today it's the rally at the capitol!
ReplyDeleteSo many people were going to the rally at the capitol in Michigan! Did you see Maya there?!
DeleteHey I can finally comment on your blog from my phone!! Hurrah!
ReplyDeleteOne place I was this week was the children’s hospital surgery center in Minnetonka for Taco’s adenoid/tonsil removal + tubes. I had only been to the downtown locations in the past. This was so much easier as parking was so easy. Which is key when you are carrying a 40 lb child who is in pain and out of it (it’s a long walk in Minneapolis since it’s part of the massive hospital). It was not a great place to be but I will be glad to have it behind us.
I was thrilled with the election results in WI!!!
A couple of weeks ago, I couldn't comment on my own blog for a few days. I truly have no idea what was going on.
DeleteGoing to those clinics in the suburbs is like night and day. Free, abundant parking! No garages! It's crazy.
"I was sitting in the dark all day on Wednesday." I spent 12 hours on Thursday without electricity, courtesy of horrendous thunderstorms that disrupted service to our home, our small town, our local grocery store. Not really a huge problem for me, I enjoyed time away from all screens. Kind of a throwback to the early 1990s.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it when the network goes down at work. I literally can do no work! It's awesome.
DeleteI should learn a lesson from that and do a screen free day every once in a while, shouldn't I?
Apart from work and the grocery store, I've been to the post office, library, bookstore, a couple of cafes, and the thrift store this week. I'll be at the capitol for the "Hands Off" Protest today.
ReplyDeleteYou AND Jeanie at the rally! Did you meet up with each other?
DeleteWell, I can say I have been nowhere besides my home. However I can report that I left the bed after four days and sat in my reading chair. Does that count? I am planning on going outside tomorrow fro the first time in a week though. Hate being sick.
ReplyDeleteI love sitting in the dark. I hate when people turn on the lights even when it is light outside. I am very light sensitive and that has always been an issue when I was working in offices. Perks of being a freelancer working from home. I can do my mole thing and sit in the dark.
Being sick is the WORST. I hope you feel better ASAP!
DeleteI am a sleepy girl, Tobia, and will definitely fall asleep if left in the dark. I have ZERO windows in my office, so it's really dark in there. I don't need my boss thinking I'm napping!
Wisconsin gave us so much hope this week. I love it! And a great FU to Elon.
ReplyDeleteWhere have I been this week? Let's see... my gym, my mom's house, downtown Tampa for my stair climb, a bunch of restaurants... not exactly the usual week but a good one!
Oh, I can't wait to hear about the stair climb! It sounds hard!
DeleteThat beautiful mansion is your community center?
ReplyDeleteI am fortunate because I was in many cool places last week in Italy. Many beautiful basilicas. My daughter’s art studio in Florence to name a few. AND since I know you will appreciate it- the Mephisto store in Florence. Since arriving b home, I was at a basketball place with like maybe 10 court. I’m not sure how the players manage to tune out the whistles on the nearby courts, because it confuses me from the stands. I also grocery shopped at Walmart near the bball center, because Curly wanted to grab lunch with a friend and we were not near our home. I hate Walmart but the prices were great.
That IS the community center. It used to be a Masonic Lodge, but fell into disrepair for a couple of decades and has been refurbished and opened as a community center. It's gorgeous and glorious.
DeleteI'm stressed out about thinking of the noise in a ten court situation! Too much stimulation for me!
We have a lovely student union, too and I love working on a campus!
ReplyDeleteSince I was sick, I only went for a walk around our new neighborhood, but we have a couple of fun art installations in small parks around the neighborhood that I checked out :)
