F.I.G. Collective: Week Two

Elisabeth challenged us all to find gratitude in February, so she created the Finding Joy in Gratitude Collective. Here are my FIGs for last week.

Sunday, February 9
Hannah and I did an entire loop around our neighborhood park. It's kind of a spooky setting, with lots of trees and hidden sightlines and she has historically been scared of it. She's been working on being brave and because today was a bright, sunny day, I think she was game to try.

Monday, February 10
Puppy Blanche came to school today!

Tuesday, February 11
I am so lucky that I get to this super fun fitness class at the community center every week.

Wednesday, February 12
Snowing, snowing, snowing! That's fun in and of itself, but I went into work for a couple of hours and then came back home. My husband kept refilling my mug of tea. If that's not a real perk of working from home, I don't know what is.

Thursday, February 13
When I took this photo, it was 12 degrees outside, but Hannah and I were walking because that's what we do. Thank goodness for all the modern technology that allows me to be semi-comfortable on these walks - my boots, my coat, my heated vest, and, of course, my beloved handwarmers.

Friday, February 14
So many fun things for Valentine's Day, including a special Valentine from Jenny! My brother- and sister-in-law and nephew came to visit us. It was snowing LIKE CRAZY on their drive here, but we had a lovely dinner when they got here.

Saturday, February 15
We had to dig out this morning and it was fun hanging out in the snow. My brother-in-law and his family are still here and we went bowling AND to a golf simulator. It was so much fun!

What your fig today?

  1. A FIG from yesterday was shoveling the driveway in the morning. It was peaceful and quiet outside, and there was only an inch or so of wet snow. ( We're having arctic weather for the next week, so I wanted it clear so it wouldn't turn into an ice sheet.) I could have made my teens do it, but it was calm and easy for me to do by myself.
I almost bought hand warmers this year- I regret not doing so. I'll have to check the sales. ( I bought myself a few too many Xmas presents, so I don't want to buy anything selfish for a little while.)
    That mug is awesome!

    1. I love shoveling. It brings the whole neighborhood together and it's quiet. It's just wonderful.

  2. FIG. Well, we're having another pretty heavy snowfall, but we don't have to go anywhere, and the guys will eventually come to clear the driveway.

    1. Nice! If you don't have anywhere to go, snow days are the best.

  3. So many great photos! I see Zelda is once again eluding the bothersome paparazzi, but we got to see Blanche (so darn cute).

We're getting socked with a winter storm today, but our snowblower is finally repaired after a whole month at the shop. It's a sloppy, wet snow, so I don't think we can shovel it very easily.

I'm extremely grateful that both of Rick's cataract surgeries were a huge success these past two weeks. What an astonishing procedure it is.

    1. I'll work on getting Zelda in there next week. Things are challenging with her right now, so sometimes I forget how lucky we are to have her around.

Ugh. I hate wet snow. It's NOT FUN to shovel. The stuff we have is light and fluffy and is not very heavy.

Yay for successful cataract surgery!! Hopefully he can see so much more clearly now!!

  4. Oh I haven't bowled in forever! That's so fun. We got snow! WE GOT SNOW!!! It snowed last night and wow, am I ever excited to take Rexie for his walk. I know it won't last for long and even if it did, well, I'm heading to Mexico on Tuesday! Big FIG right there!

  5. Hello Blanche!!!! Oh, I'm in love with her! She's the sweetest little FIG! I would love to hear more about your beloved hand warmers. The picture of you and your husband is adora-bowl!

    1. Michelle! Adora-bowl??? You are a genius (and I feel like you could write some pretty great Valentine's content).

    2. Elisabeth, I wish I could take credit for that great pun, but it was on the card that Engie and her hubby are holding in the photo.

    3. They are OCOOPA hand warmers and I have one for each pocket. I probably charge them every two or three days, but I use them A LOT on dog walks. I highly recommend them.

The bowling alley was having a "Fall In Love With Bowling" theme and had those fun Valentine's with bowling themes like "You're Right Up My Alley" and "You're Adora-Bowl" and I had a LOT of fun with them.

  6. Yay for winter walks with Hannah, puppy visits, and the bottomless tea cup on your WFH day.

My fig is watching Doggo do snow zoomies and then having her come back inside and curl up next to me on the couch.

    1. It is fun to have an exhausted dog cuddle! I maintain that Hannah is lazy and also she's exhausted because I make her work so hard all day.

  7. I have those same hand warmers but rarely use them. Probably because I don't have a dog to walk, and in the winter months, I stick to the treadmill. They are pretty slick though!

    1. I admit that we're not spending quite as much time outside these days as we do when the weather is warmer. It takes us ten minutes to get all our gear on and that cuts into our time outside. Oh, well. It won't be winter forever.

  8. That is the most delightfully dorky mug

  9. Love the FIGs. I'm so proud of you and Hannah for walking in such cold, snowy weather. Bowling - wow...that has been a while! Though my son did attend a birthday party at a bowling alley a few years back. We should take the kids some night. I don't think my daughter has ever gone bowling.
Moving on. Love the handwarmers. I should invest in some next Christmas for skiing. I wonder how bulky they are...?

    1. We only go bowling when my brother- and sister-in-law come to town. It's our thing. We are very bad at it, but we have a good time. The handwarmers fit easily into my winter coat pocket and hand. I can wrap my entire hand around it. I do think they're pretty heavy, but I went for ones with a larger battery because I didn't want to have to charge them every day. I do like them a lot!

  11. We got snow on Friday and it was so wonderful to watch the flakes come down while I was working in my basement office (with an egress window that I face). The world looks much better with a blanket of snow. It is not bitterly cold as our high is -2 today! But it will warm up later this week thank goodness.

My fig of the day was meeting my friend for coffee after dropping Taco at daycare. My friend just found out she has breast cancer so it was good to see and hug her and catch up/talk about next steps as well as life in general.

  12. My FIG today is that it seems to have finally stopped snowing after two and a half days and about 27 inches, and I was able to get out of my driveway to lunch with my friend who spends over half her time five hours away but we usually have lunch when she's back in town and talk non-stop for over two hours.

  13. BLANCHE! That's an easy fig for sure. What a cutie. I just want to smush her!!

A FIG for today a morning meeting getting canceled. So nice to have an extra hour back in my workday!

    1. An extra hour is the best!!! Although, if I'm being honest, I tend to end up wasting that time. I'm obviously not a productive little soldier.
