F.I.G. Collective: Week One

Elisabeth challenged us all to find gratitude in February, so she created the Finding Joy in Gratitude Collective. Here are my FIGs for last week. (I'm going to be honest. Things were tough this week and looking for something good each day was sometimes a challenge. I feel great that I met the challenge, though.)

Sunday, February 2
It was a winter wonderland when Hannah and I went out for our morning walk. It got into the 40s throughout the day, so it all melted by lunchtime, but what a joyful morning stroll for the two of us.

Monday, February 3
Zelda!! She's playing with her brown ball again. Woot woot!

Tuesday, February 4
I have a few LED candles scattered about the main floor that automatically light from 5-10pm. When the Christmas tree was up, I hadn't noticed that the batteries were dying. We recently put new batteries in them and they add a lovely atmosphere to the house.

Wednesday, February 6
Bestest Friend sent me a Valentine's Day package!! It was a fun surprise waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home.

Thursday, February 6
Woke up to the driveway and sidewalks coated in ice. The dog didn't get a walk, but just a trot around the grass in the backyard and I got to work from home in the morning! Woot!! Cascading effects of working from home: I got more tea because my husband kept making me teafills and I had nachos for lunch because I was home to use the oven.

Friday, February 7
I went in to work late today because I had to drive to Madison to get an oil change in the new car (friends, I think I have to stop calling it the "new" car - it's five years old). My special treat for doing stupid, boring, car-related things? You guessed it.

Saturday, February 8
You guys! I met a puppy. Her name is Blanche. She's three pounds (about three months old) and is maaaybe the cutest, smooshiest little landshark I've ever met. Huge thumbs up.

Her person lost her dog Rhoda about a month ago and Blanche is doing her best to fill Rhoda's shoes.

I brought over a dozen chocolate chip cookies (for the human), some toys, a collar light, and a toothbrush for Blanche, and stayed for a half hour playing with the dog and telling her how vicious she is. What an afternoon.

What's making you happy today?

  1. Yay brown ball!!! Also yay for a WFH day with tea service. And lil' pup is so cute.

Today the weather is a dream in FL, and my plans include seeing a lighthouse and having dinner with one of our friends. And tomorrow I get to go home and get puppy smooches.

    1. Okay, I'm impressed that you're checking blogs when you're on vacation, let alone commenting! You should be outside enjoying the weather! Go be warm!!

  2. Teafills is a good word. There was another I saw in passing, but I didn't note it and a quick looksee doesn't reveal it.

    1. Teafill is a greatly used term in our house. Do you want your teafill in your mug or your thermos? Teafill is ready on the counter.

  3. Oh look at that puppy! And Hannah enjoying the winter, Zelda enjoying her ball, you enjoying...iced coffee? I can't tell what it is but I approve, along with the lunchtime nachos. Sunday is an easy day for me to find happiness, my older son comes home for dinner on Sundays. It's the Super Bowl today so the guys will be busy watching and I'm going to curl on the couch while they watch and read my book.

    1. It's a decaf ice americano with a tiny bit of cream. LOL. Living the dream.

Yay! I forgot about the SuperBowl! I should go somewhere and take advantage of the fact that everyone is watching it instead of shopping or whatever. Instead I'll sit here and comment on blogs. LOL.

  4. A tall stack of freshly split logs to feed the wood stove this week (it's going to be cold!) is making me happy today.

    1. Oh, man, this bummed me out. I was hoping for warmer weather. Oh, well.

  5. Blanche is such a great dog name! For me today, I guess a FIG is that Lil Momma is still young enough to be super excited about snow but old enough to get herself bundled up to go sled, haha! PS: thinking about you and hard weeks; hard found FIGs are even more figgy, if that makes sense.

    1. The perfect age!! She can do all the hard work herself and still have fun. That IS a true FIG.

  6. Yay for Zelda playing!
The sun came out today, and to top it off, I get to see my oldest daughter this evening—such a good day! 🩷

  7. Aw, Blanche. Is she named for a Golden Girl? Those eyes, so cute. Your work from home morning sounds delightful. Hooray for Zelda being up for playtime.

I woke up with a horrible headache. We were at the gala last night, fundraiser for the girls' school. It was a lovely night, but I didn't sleep well, too much wine? Too much cheap wine? Anyway, I ended up going back to sleep, which is my fav thing to do on a day when I have a day off.

    1. YES! She is named after a Golden Girl. Rhoda was also named after a sitcom character. It's a theme.

I took an afternoon nap myself today. It must be in the air!

  8. Today I'm happy because it's not snowing and a few overzealous daffodils are beginning to pop up. Just about an inch out but it's a start.

  9. Blanche is already a heartbreaker. LOOK AT THOSE EYES (has Hannah been giving her lessons)?
I'm so happy Zelda is back to playing with her brown ball. That is a huge FIG.

Thanks for participating; I know things have been rough and it takes extra energy to dig deep and find some positive FIGs and you hit it out of the park. Hugs <3

    1. They don't think this tiny girl is going to get much bigger (maybe six pounds?), so we'll see how it goes. She's itty bitty and so cute. I might become obsessed with her.

  11. Oh Blanche, so cute! I am thankful to live in such a temperate climate, and yet sometimes when I see photos of beautiful snow, I wish we had it once in a while. Then I read about icy driveways and I think, nah. Glad for work from home! It snows here once in a GREAT WHILE, but only at a slightly higher elevation from here. I think the last time it snowed where we are was 1976.

SO GLAD that Zelda is feeling a little better! When Mulder was super hungry, we could fill him up by adding a little low cal filler to his food (canned pumpkin). I looked the other day to see if I could find something for cats, and I was unsuccessful. The closest I got was wet food is more filling than dry.

    1. I actually really like snow, to be honest. But black ice is terrifying!! You're probably better off without having to deal with it. Also, it would be nice not to have four different wardrobes for each season, to be honest. Imagine all the closet space I could have!

Zelda has always been a hungry kitty, but this steroid is really upping her level of starvation. If you ask her, we are neglecting a cat and should be sent to jail. Also, please give her some more food, okay?

  14. That puppy is cute! Also yay Zelda! I am so glad that she is feeling up to playing a little! I don't miss icy snow days, especially when I had to drive in it. Not fun. I am glad you got to WFH though!

    1. Yeah, I refuse to risk my life to go to work. If it's too scary out there, I'll work from home and pretend it's COVID days.

  15. I'm so glad for your cache of happy things, Engie <3. And the pictures of Zelda, Hannah, and bonus puppy Blanche!

You have 40 degree temps?! We're stuck in the teens and twenties for the foreseeable future and our snow and ICE seems here to stay. Send some warmth over, neighbor!

    1. We had ONE DAY of 40 degree temps. And now we're lucky to get to 20. There's quite a bit of snow forecast for this week, so we'll see how all that shakes out. I'm going to bring my computer home every day because if I have to work from home, then so it shall be!

  16. I'M SORRY THAT PUPPY'S NAME IS BLANCHE?! I die. I just came across of baby Lucy and ughhhh... when they are so smol like that, I can barely handle myself.

I love the FIGs you were able to find this week. Hooray for Zelda being interested in her brown ball again. That's a great sign, hopefully!

Every time you talk about your LED candles that AUTOMATICALLY TURN ON, I want to get some for myself. What a wonderful time to be alive (well, except for the whole "death of our democracy" stuff).
