12.8 Art - Resin Tray

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a pre-determined themed chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the eighth day of the month is "Art."

****************

One of our friends bought a house last year and the thing he was most excited about was having a basement workshop. He has started on a handful of carpentry projects, but while he might have the space for a woodshop, he does not have the money to get all the equipment or time to really devote to learning how to use it all. Enter his "resin workshop." He recently made us a resin tray that he made to match the rug in our living room!

As he handed it to us, he started talking about how it has all kinds of imperfections, but honestly I can't see any of them.

What an amazing piece of art he gave us.

Do you have a craft workshop? What's the latest piece of art you've brought into your house or that you've made?

  2. WOW!! This is so beautiful and such a labor of love--how special! Is this by Humphrey's human?

    1. This is NOT Humphrey's human - it is the dogsitter! They are two different people who have recently moved into their first houses.

  3. Oh, I have no business having a craft workshop. "Making art" definitely is not one of my talents. I don't even know what a resin workshop is, but the tray is beautiful!

    1. LOL. I don't know what the resin workshop looks like, to be honest. His wife just rolled his eyes when he talked about it, so...I guess we'll just have to imagine it.

  4. This is gorgeous. I love how well if fits with your house aesthetic (which is also gorgeous).

I'm not very crafty with my hands but both my parents are; my father has a woodworking shop with all sorts of tools and lumber and my mom does all sorts of sewing and handwork so one side of her bedroom is full of shelves with fabric and ribbon and a sewing machine.

    1. I also love how it fits in perfectly with our living room. We're so lucky he is willing to share his talent with us!

My mom is THRILLED that I sometimes sew. She and my sister are very crafty and I can sew a straight line. LOL.

  5. I like this tray. Carpentry does take some expensive tools, but resin work is cool. I don't see any flaws but see a beautiful tray. Happy new week.

    1. Right? I don't see any flaws either. It's just a beautiful and thoughtful gift.

  6. Wow that is so cool! I do not have a workshop area but neither of us have any hobbies that would require a workshop! Phil gets help from his cousin when home projects come up but he's not looking to use tools otherwise. I used to knit allll the time. Like one year I made beautiful scarves for my mom, sisters, and sisters-in-law and another year I knit everyone a tiny little ornament, like a mini sweater or mini stocking, etc. But I haven't picked up knitting needles since having kids. I get tempted to do it but I'm envisioning the boys getting into the needles and impaling each other. Ha.

    1. My mom used to knit in the car when we were kids. My father would drive, my mom would knit, and my sister and I would take turns annoying each other. Maybe you should bring back knitting as a car only activity!

  9. It's beautiful! Resin is hard to work with - it's nice to hear you don't see the imperfections (says someone who uses resin on rocks). We don't have a craft workshop or bring much art in or make it, LOL.

    1. Yeah, I mean, if I'm being persnickety I can see some flaws, but who am I to be persnickety? I have never made a resin tray!
