12.28 Meaning - No Pumpkins?

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the twenty-eighth day of the month is "Meaning."

********************

Because of bad planning on my part, we did not have time to carve pumpkins this year. Now I have a busted finger, so I guess it's just off the table. I'm pretty bummed out that we can't continue our carving tradition, but so be it. I won't leave you with nothing. Here are jack-o-lanterns of old.

And I'll leave you last with a creepy pumpkin from the local park's haunted hike last weekend. Maybe that will cheer you up.

Do you carve pumpkins? Do you have a favorite "type" of jack-o-lantern?

  1. All the jack-o-lanterns are cute, but I think I like your last pumpkin best :)! It would be tricky to carve a pumpkin with your six stitches and all, but would you be into painting/bedazzling your pumpkins?

    1. Dae was such a precious kitty! She was an excellent jack-o-lantern. Hm. I don't know if we have time to get paint/bedazzle supplies. I will consider this.

  2. Well, I'm sorry you're missing out on your tradition! I looked at your old jack o lanterns- that was fun. I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin carving. I did it for years and years with the kids, but finally one year- a few years ago- I asked them if they would be sad if we didn't do it, and they said no. I definitely like the finished product, but I don't like the scooping seeds out and the mess involved.
I think the favorite one we carved was when my son was in high school and in a heavy sarcasm phase- we carved his pumpkin like the eye roll emoji and it really came out well! I'll have to dig out a photo of that one.

    1. Oh, I love the process of carving them. I mean, we're obviously not experts, but it's fun. I can see how the mess might deter some people, but I love the seeds and the end product, so it all works for me.

  3. I'm not a fan of Halloween or pumpkin carving, but we've had a pretty few epic ones! This year we've skipped it entirely and I'm glad it's not a set-in-stone tradition for us. Some years we do it, some years we don't. But I love looking at them! I'm always so impressed with the intricacy/creativity of so many pumpkin carvings this time of year. I'm not sure I would ever have the patience for it, but it is beautiful!

    1. Some people are so amazing at carving. I see some and I'm just in awe! I love that we carve them regularly, so I'm disappointed that we're missing this year, but there's always next year.

  4. I'm laughing because I used to buy pumpkins for the boys to carve, and they often didn't get around to carving them. After a while I gave up. My favorite part was getting hold of the seeds and roasting them up.

  5. I have never carved a pumkpink. Or maybe I did once 20 years ago when I was living in the U.S. I cant remember. It is not a tradition here. Though it is taken over more and more. I am already wondering if I need to hide Halloween night because I dont want to hand out candy.

    1. LOL. A lot of people in the States don't hand out candy. Just don't turn on the porch light!

  6. We usually do a pumpkin, but I've been so busy this fall that It looked like it wasn't going to happen , but last night our neighbor invited us to their pumpkin carving party, and so we did get pumpkins after all! I love pumpkin carving. I actually love Hallowe'en except the actual Trick or Treating.

  7. Oddly, I feel like a puking pumpkin takes more skill than either one of us has! Go Dorothy if she can pull it off.

  9. We always carved a pumpkin. We bought a big one. The kids dug out all of the stuff and then cheered/instructed me as I carved it. It almost always had a similar kind of face. toothy smile. Triangle eyes. We didn't even buy a pumpkin the last few years, but we did this year. It rotted on our front porch a few weeks ago. Carving duty dodged.
