12.17 Method - How To Get Snail Mail

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the seventeenth day of the month is "Method."

Look! A postcard from Nicole! Thanks Nicole!

This is clearly the result of decades of me sending postcards and letters to people. Now rarely a month goes by that I don't get some sort of lovely surprise in the mailbox.

So, that's the method. Spend years sending correspondence and eventually it will come your way!

What's a secret life hack you've learned?

  1. I don't know about a life hack, but sometimes life hacks away at me. 😁
Congrats on the card. I know it's nice, and you deserve it.

    1. I don't know if anyone "deserves" postcards, but I do love getting them.

  2. Snail mail is the best! I think this principle is so broadly applicable to life - generally, the more we invest in others/a particular practice, the more positive feedback we get. Not always, but it's encouragement to start meaningful habits that have a tendency to really pay back dividends in the long wrong.
    Yay for postcards.

I don't know if I have any secret hacks, but I recently was prepping for potential power outages and told my friend I should go buy ice to buy extra time for my perisable food in the fridge and freezer. She said: "Oh, my sister-in-law [who owns a preschool so has A LOT of food on hand] freezes all sorts of jugs and containers with water to make giant homemade ice packs."

I thought this was brilliant. I asked neighbours for empty milk jugs and filled all sorts of containers I had at home and froze those so my freezer was a basically free giant ice cube. Thankfully our power didn't go out, so then I just thawed all the jugs and poured the water into my washing machine!

    1. Oh, that is a good idea. They say full freezers hold the cold better, so maybe I should just have some frozen water in our half-empty freezer most of the time! LOL.

  4. I should get better about sending cards- although I did send you a postcard from Texas, so your life hack definitely works! On that subject, I just got a Halloween card from my sister and that was fun. Okay, I'm going to up my snail mail game!

    1. Just send ONE Halloween card, even if it's homemade. That's the start to a wonderful snail mail habit.

    1. I don't think anyone should force themselves to send mail if it doesn't come naturally to you. Just be you and let the snail mail chips fall where they may.

    1. Yes! Set a reminder every month to send mail and you, too, will someday get a few pieces in return.

  8. Yay! The same has happened to me and I get so many packages and cards. People are lovely. My life hack is to listen to audiobooks when driving and doing other tasks to enrich your time. Super obvious to everyone but me.

    1. Yes! I am always listening to a podcast or audiobook when I'm driving, cooking, cleaning, and walking the dog. Some people just sit in their own thoughts and why would you do that?!

  9. I wish that were true for me, but alas I know only one person who still uses snail mail. It doesn't matter how much I show the love by sending something, I receive crickets in return.

  11. That's so sweet! No life hacks here, just trying to keep life from hacking me.

  12. Snail mail is still the best IMHO. People always appreciate when I sent (birthday or just-because) cards.

    1. I hope people still appreciate it and they don't just lump it in with bills and junk mail!

  13. Those are the best days when all the snail mail sending pays off. Good. for you. I am hoping to get some christmas cards this year. I can count on two that are rather certain. The rest we'll see.
