Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the first day of the month is "Hat."
******************
I know you are all bored reading about The Storm that went through our town, but I have to admit that since I spend so much time outdoors, I am still seeing the effects and it has been Super Exciting. And, as you know because I've complained about it a million times before, there is a lot of Other Construction happening and so taking Hannah for walks has seemed adventurous.
So there's a lot going on in the City and I had to laugh when I saw their update on social media yesterday morning. Too many updates! It's all happening!
Anyway, I am not a regular hat wearer in the summer. My husband always wear a hat because he is bald and skin cancer on your scalp is no joke. But for the last couple of days I have been Hat Lady. I wear the straw hat in the yard and I wore the Buff cap when I went for a run yesterday. Hats all around!
And I'll leave you with a shot of my running trail from yesterday morning.
****************
Have you worn a hat recently?
I wear a straw hat a lot in the summer (mostly with dresses) and the rest of the time I tend to wear a visor since I prefer to have my hair up in a bun and visors (which feel like an old lady thing?!) are just so practical. I wear them almost exclusively when I go for outdoor walks or runs. I have a few "soft" baseball caps, but definitely default to my visor 9 times out of 10.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for a trail run! I did a 3 km run with my 8-year-old yesterday so that I would be hot enough to want to jump into the lake. It kinda worked. I got in the lake and lasted about 10 minutes. Brrr. I just get cold so easily...
Visors might be an interesting move for me. I do worry about so much sun on my scalp, even though I do have hair (unlike my husband), but I hate how hot my head gets when I wear hats! Hm. This is something for me to consider.
DeleteI'm a balding hat guy, but I think I would be anyway. Not baseball hats though.
ReplyDeleteI think my husband would be a hat guy no matter what, too. And he has the head for it!
DeleteThe phrase "VERTICAL trees" really tickled me for some reason. I mean, I'm sorry there are so many horizontal ones, too, but that identifier is something I'll take with me and use regularly. "Look at that vertical tree over there!"
ReplyDeleteYes, it IS funny. I mean it's not funny that there are "vertical" trees that are dangerous right now, but the whole update just made me laugh. So much going on for our quiet little town when the updates are usually like "they're mopping on the third floor of the municipal building."
DeleteYou have a lot going on in your neighborhood! Lots of good practice for Hannah to Deal With Change.
ReplyDeleteI have not regularly worn a hat until this year, but my resolution to walk outside daily prompted me to wear a hat. It was a freebie we got several years ago for renting a condo with my parents. My husband claims I look ridiculous in it, so when we went back to our university for our reunion, I bought a university-branded hat that I wear now. I like the sun protection but I hate how it makes me head sweat.
I hate how hats make my head hot! Also, I have a tiny head and most hats overwhelm my face. I can't believe your husband said you looked ridiculous in a hat - how rude!
DeleteHa! It was less rude than I made it seem. He just has an anti-hat preference. But I don't care. Hats serve a useful purpose.
DeleteSo much happening in your 'hood, which adds to your Hannah challenges.
ReplyDeleteI wear ball caps a few days a week...ya know, when I don't want to deal with my hair. :) Plus, it helps keep the sun off my face while out with the pups.
Yeah, I *should* be better about wearing a hat when I'm walking the dog. I just...don't like hats much!
DeleteThere is a lot going on in your town right now! This is one of the benefits of living in a smaller community, though. They can more easily take control of a situation... it is very different living in Minneapolis. Like - good luck getting help on anything/finding the person/place to track down. We needed tree stumps ground out and it took several years for that to happen. It didn't really bother us, but there was some regrowth at the base of the tree and a neighbor was complaining that it obstructed her view when she was turning out of the alley. But we really don't have the equipment to deal with cutting down all of the growth (it was kind of a lot...). Phil did try calling the city and eventually got in touch with the right people and they said - sorry, our stump grinding budget has been exhausted for the year, we'll try to get to it next year. All that said, I do adore Minneapolis and wouldn't want to live anywhere else (well during my working years - different story when we are retired and the boys have graduated).
ReplyDeleteOur neighbor had a dead ash in the terrace in front of her house and the city took years to deal with it, so the city is only really on the ball right now because all the tree trimmers/tree grinders are already out and about in the city dealing with cleanup. If it's not an emergent situation, sometimes it takes a long time here, too!
DeleteI almost never wear hats but I know a lot of people where hats/bandanas what have you when they go running... maybe I should make that a habit?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I wear one because it helps keep sweat off my face when I run, but it also makes my head really hot. Tradeoffs!
DeleteI never wear hats. I do own two baseball caps but its been a while I actually used them. And during winter I have some hats. for practical reasons but I always look like a cancer patient weearing them. So not really a fan. However when i was in France last month I knew it would be a good thing to wear one and so I got a merchandise one from the company. It helped. I looked rediciously. I'vee thrown it away.
ReplyDeleteHats don't really suit me very much, either. I tend to just put on sunscreen and hope for the best! I have a small head and most hats don't fit quite right.
DeleteLOL forever at the town's list of things-we're-doing. How is it now? I saw your tree finally was taken down - that must have been a relief. (I do look ahead at my favorites and see whether anything crucial happened that I need to comment on sometime before 2 weeks has passed... :>) Also, hats. I have a small head and look really awful in hats. I do wear them when hiking, etc., but rarely in other situations.
ReplyDeleteThings are okay in town. They still are doing cleanup and have dealt with the vertical trees and right now they're going around town dealing with the so-called "widowmakers," the branches that are dead, but are still in the tree caught up in other branches. They're easier to see now because the leaves are dead. But everyone, including us, still has branches out on the terrace/median/hell strip/swale because they haven't had time/resources to get to those yet. It still looks pretty dicey if you drive through our town!
