5.30 Depression - Snow!

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Every day we will write a blog post on a pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the thirtieth day of the month is "Depression."

*****************

Look, everyone! I made a heart in the snow! And then Hannah ran through it, ruining the perfect canvas I had. I love her so much I just laughed at her.

Winter is long and I'm just over here waiting for the day I can wear something other than my winter boots for walking the dog. I'm waiting for the day when I can count on the sun to shine. I'm waiting for the day when I can wash all my long underwear and store it away for the season. I'm waiting for the day when I don't have to remember to charge my vest and handwarmer batteries at night. I'm waiting for the day when I don't have to check the temperature to see if I should put boots on the dog before heading out. I'm waiting for the day when I wake up and it's not pitch-black outside.

But until then! Let's celebrate how fun it is to play in the snow! And let's hope that next month, my seasonal depression is over and we can talk about holes in the ground or something.

What's your unofficial spring is here celebration? Mine is the first time I drive the car with the windows down and the music blasting way too loudly. That has not happened yet this year, but maybe it will soon!

  1. YES. Not only is winter depressing to begin with, but it goes on WAY TOO LONG. Growing up in the midwest, I hated the saying "March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb." HA!!!!! I don't remember one time, ever, the whole time I lived there that March "went out like a lamb." Now I avoid all that, living in Florida, but I also don't get the spring. i remember the elation and relief I would feel when the snow melted and I could see little green buds on our bushes. You're almost there... yes, next month on the 30th you'll be talking about a different definition of "depression."

    1. I think it should be "in like a lion, out like a lamb" about April because we're definitely still in the thick of winter in March. Oh, well. It will be over SOON!

  2. Awww, I am so sorry that winter is dragging for you! I do think that NEARLY APRIL is well past time for spring to have begun. I don't know if I have a spring celebration. I do remember that when I was a teenager, the instant the thermometer rose past 40 degrees, we would all show up at school with T-shirts on. It just felt SO WARM after months of below-zero temps.

    1. It is in the 50s today, but there's snow forecasted for tomorrow, so I might bust out my lighter spring jacket just for today and try to enjoy the warmth while we have it. *sigh* I think you need a spring celebration! Let's get you a tradition!

  3. Oh dear, I'm sorry for your snow. I detest it, even in January, even in December. And I've lived in Ohio my whole darn life.

I woke up to 23 degrees this morning. Ugh. But, at least no snow. There are buds on the trees and bushes, and the forsythia, magnolias, and daffodils are trying hard to bloom. But we keep getting setbacks, thanks to cold fronts and clippers from Canada and the West.

I'm sick and tired of my winter clothes. I want to wear all my loose, flowy, Boho tops and take my walks without a coat or jacket. That's when I'll know it's my Spring.

    1. Oh, wow! No coat or jacket means summer to me, not spring! I run cold, so I'm basically still wearing a jacket or vest well into June! I hope you get a no jacket day soon!

  4. So, you know I really try to look on the bright side when I can, and I try very hard to not live as a Debbie Downer. BUT, can I just say how much I detest spring in our state??? I really do. Every year it gets me. It's just so YUCK. I honestly don't generally mind the cold and snow earlier in the season, but I think it's an expectation vs reality thing. Like, the days get longer in March, the sun is usually out more, the birds are chirping, it often "looks" pleasant out my window... and then bam. It's 27 degrees and freezing. I can't stand it. Of course actual snow makes this even worse. The whole thing makes me very cranky. If it could just at least be like in the, say, mid 50s I'd be good for now! (Though anytime it starts to get "warm-ish", have you noticed it is often unpleasantly windy during our springs, too?) I too am longing for warm weather on my walks- especially after just returning from 90 degree weather (which sometimes felt too hot, but mostly just felt amazing! I was just like, "give me allllll the heat. Put me in an oven. LOL.)

    1. YES! I can only imagine how much whiplash you had when you came back home. It has been a challenging spring, but by this time next month, we WILL have turned a weather corner.

  5. So much snow. It wears on you after too much of it. The photos show a lovely sight but I understand how you're over snow now. Still it's not listening to you, is it?

    1. The snow will go away, though. I just have to be more patient. In the meantime, I'm trying to focus on the positive, like that I can make a heart in the snow.

  6. My first sign of spring is when the grass turns from that ugly brown color to green. Still waiting...
To be fair, the snow has just melted off the grass.

    1. Oh, wow! A lot of you must live in much warmer climates than I do because I think of green grass as a summer thing, not spring! But let's see how long it takes to get there.

  7. I'm sorry it's still like this and affects you so much! I hope it warms up soon!

Hmm, mine is when I can wear short sleeves outside and feel fine! I actually did that last weekend for a while and it was in the 30s but I'm odd.

    1. Oh, wow! You must run a lot warmer than me. I am not outside without outwear until late June. Ha!

  8. What a pretty snow heart, but I'm sorry your heart isn't in our continuing snow. May your car concert happen soon! The day I can walk in a sweatshirt instead of a winter coat is my personal Spring.

  9. Same here with winter. At least we don't have snow, which is a plus. But it's awfully cold. I'm so sick of every fleece top I have and can't seem to bear to put them away because as soon as I do, I'll want to wear them again! I love your snowy heart!

    1. Yes, I can't wait to put away my winter clothes, but I guess we'll both just have to be patient for a little longer to do that chore!

  10. The first time that I can walk the dog without a coat or a jacket is the start of spring. We're not there yet but at least there's no snow in the forecast. Spring will come someday!

    1. You are the second person to say going outside without a coat. I definitely think of that as a summer pleasure, not a spring one. I hope you get to do it soon, though!

  11. Only having to wear a hoodie when I walk the dog! Not worrying about layers and coats and footwear and everyone else's layers and coats and footwear is a gift I don't take lightly!

    1. YES! The ease of walking the dog in warmer weather is not to be underestimated. It must give me an hour back in my week when I'm not wrangling my own outerwear, let alone dealing with others!

  12. I have made an appointment to remove my snow tires in two weeks.

    1. Our local ice cream stand opens every year mid-March. I think they're regretting opening so early this year. I can't imagine getting ice cream there yet!

  14. I can't believe you guys are still getting so much snow in late March. That's unacceptable! It is officially "too hot to wear long pants" weather in Florida so back to shorts and tank tops it is! I get more excited when we have our first cooldown in Florida than I do for Spring. Spring always comes too early in Florida and means my car will be covered in pollen every day for months, so it's not all that fun over here. (But much better than a dumping of snow!)

    1. I *think* that we're done with any snow that will stick to the ground. We had big fat flakes fall yesterday, but it didn't accumulate on the ground. I'd like to see temperatures consistently in the 50s and 60s, though, before I make such bold pronouncements.

I can't believe it's so hot in Florida. I'm jealous!

  15. I swear, if we have snow that sticks in April...
Did you SEE the forecast for this week? A spring teaser for sure, since it's supposed to be more normalish next week. But oh, I cannot wait to be warm when I go outside. To not wear 5000 layers. And to put away the hats and gloves. Sigh.
