2.12 Complaint - Duped!

Bestest Friend and I are doing a blog project. Each day we will write a blog post on a pre-determined theme chosen by a random noun generator. The theme for the twelfth day of the month is "Complaint."

****************

A tiny complaint here. My fancypants Williams Sonoma Harry Potter advent calendar is just not very good. With the exception of two very good lemon drops, the rest of the treats I have had have very little to no connect to the wizarding world (lots of random hard candies and sour gummies) or have been stale or gross (Bertie Bott's Beans and some gummy slugs). For the amount of money I paid for this calendar, I would have expected better. End tiny complaint.

How is your advent calendar treating you this year?

  1. Oh, how annoying! I would definitely expect better from Williams Sonoma. And I'll bet it was expensive. Well... maybe it will get better? A chocolate frog for Christmas maybe?

    1. Every night I hope it gets better! Fingers crossed. Maybe they purposefully put all the good candy at the end.

  2. How frustrating! I only have my regular (quilted/cloth) countdown going this year; I've some hits and misses with ones I've bought in recent years and decided to pass on getting another one this year.

    1. I think you're smart to just go with your beautiful quilted calendar. It will never let you down!

  3. Now that the grandkids are older and also not here often, we don’t do the advent thing. It was fun while it lasted though. Your does look lovely, despite your disappointment.

    1. It IS lovely and that's why this is only a tiny complaint, not a real one. :)

  4. Oh no! How disappointing! We got an escape room advent calendar to do all together, and we like it so far. The daily puzzles aren't too hard but are hard enough, and I think I have an idea of where the "story" is leading us, but am not so sure that I will be disappointed either way. We did have one day where the items behind the day's door weren't there, but we were still able to figure out the puzzle without them so that was okay. My daughter also has a Jurassic World advent calendar, and so far she seems pretty excited each morning to open the door and find yet another tiny plastic dinosaur, so that's good!

    1. An escape room calendar sounds like a lot of fun and everyone can do it together! I'm definitely adding that to my list of possible calendars for next year.

  6. Well, I gave my Husband grief about only buying two advent calendars when we have three kids and I think I hit a nerve because he said he was going to return them and I haven't seen any advent calendars since.
Oh man, advent calendars are supposed to be about happy anticipation! It sounds like your is *not* delivering.

    1. Oh, no! Instead of buying another one, he just returned them both! How sad for the kids! That was an unexpected ending to the story!

  7. Oh no. That is SO disappointing.
I bought myself a cheap, waxy chocolate version and hated it. So I ended up getting a Lindt one a few days into December (heavily discounted + it meant I could eat multiple chocolates the first day - win, win). It is delicious.
The kids both have Kinder ones and are enjoying those; my son has the Harry Potter LEGO calendar and he's liking that. Plus we do Advent Affirmations each day + they have a nativity sticker chart. Yikes! That's a lot. For the record, the HP Calendar was a birthday gift from a friend, and someone else gifted them the sticker chart.

    1. Well, your kids are definitely going to be in the Christmas spirit by the time Christmas Eve rolls around with all those fun activities. I had the HP LEGO calendar last year and I thought it was great fun, so I am glad to hear it was a hit for L, too.

  8. See, this is the perk to the cheap waxy chocolate calendar. Low expectations, low deliverance, no disappointment. LOL. I haven't even had any pieces from the Advent calendar, because I only got them for the boys. I did steal several Dove milk chocolates from Ethan's bag, which was a St. Nick's stocking stuffer and those were very tasty, as usual.

    1. One of my nieces has cerebral palsy and they use Dove chocolates as an incentive for her to do her therapy exercises. In their houses, there is "chocolate" and there is "Dove" and the they are clearly two distinct things! LOL.

  9. That's so disappointing; I'm sure it wasn't cheap either. I don't have one, so no complaints here, tiny or large.

    1. I might have been better off without one. Although, last night there were some very tasty caramels, so maybe the quality of the treats is turning around.

  10. I don't have an advent calendar - so your mediocre one wins (but I do understand your disappointment 100%).

    1. It IS nice to have a little bit of anticipation every day, so in that way, the calendar does do its job.

  11. I only bought an advent calendar for the cats this year, and I do love giving them a new toy to play with every day! Some they play with, others they don't. But it was only $16 for 25 toys so that's a steal.

Next year, I really want to get an advent calendar of my own! I usually shy away from food-related advent calendars because I just feel like they'll disappoint me (and I'm a picky eater!). I just need to start my research EARLY so I can find a great one.
