Boom Boom Boom

Since we moved here in July of 2012 (and, oh how much I was in denial about moving here - there are absolutely no blog posts to commemorate the move except an oblique mention of the "big move" along with some moving boxes), we have lived in the same apartment. I really like this apartment. I really like renting. It has so many pros: someone else is responsible for fixing things when they break, someone else is responsible for snow removal, leaf removal, and mowing the lawn, and basically, someone else is responsible.

There are some downsides, of course. Sometimes the management company isn't good about doing repairs in a timely manner, sometimes there are annoying neighbor mishaps, and you can't really modify the space to meet your needs.  Dr. BB has really only recently convinced me of the need for a house in the last year or two with the arguments that 1) we could get a dog and 2) we could have a fire in the backyard whenever we want to.

But recently there are more and more reasons that I can give to leave.

The constant construction in our neighborhood has been an ongoing source of angst, but then they started building this across the way from our building.
I work from home regularly and the constant thrum of hammers, heavy machinery, and workers yelling across fields is the soundtrack to which I grade, write lectures, and answer emails. And since there appears to be no end in sight, I'm officially checking out of this place.

We signed a year lease in June, so I imagine the house hunt will commence early in 2017 and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that we can move with no need to renew that lease.
