Day In the Life, 6/21/2026

What does a Sunday look like in my world?

7:30am - Wake up without an alarm. Dr. BB has been up for a bit and he was reading his Kindle, so we rolled out of bed, pulled up the covers to "make it" and started our morning.

I went downstairs where I brushed Zelda and then weighed her. She's 10.64 pounds, which is the most she has weighed since her radiation treatment. It has been kind of difficult to get her to eat her dinner recently, but I'm not going to worry about it much if her weight is staying stable.

Then I walked Hannah. We were out for about 45 minutes. I listened to an episode of "Did Furbys Spy on Us?" while we meandered along the riverwalk.

8:30am - We're back. I feed Hannah and get myself breakfast. By 9, I'm sitting down at my laptop to work on blog posts for the week for an hour.

10:00am - I tear myself away from the computer to go brush my teeth, wash my face, and get dressed (in workout clothes). I collect and start laundry, iron two items of clothing that I want to wear this week, and wander downstairs. There I ask Dr. BB to assist me with cutting Hannah's nails, and then vacuum/sweep the main level. Then I fill the bird feeders outside.

11:40am - The part of the day I have been dreading has arrived. I need to give Hannah a bath. She hates it so much. After much running away from me (and some choice words under my breath about dog ownership), she is finally washed. I walk her around the neighborhood in a futile attempt to get her to be a bit more dry before I let her go in the house.

12:15pm - Back inside. I eat lunch. We swap out the laundry. I stare into space for a few minutes wondering how to make my dog hate baths less. I search the house to find the cat because at least I know people on the street won't be reporting me for abuse of the cat.

1:20pm - I sit back at my computer to work on my blog some more until the last load of laundry is dried.

2:00pm - The dryer buzzed. I head off to fold the last load of clothes.

2:20pm - Start my workout. I do a 30 minute total body (which means more like 45 minutes for me with additional rest and changing weights) and 25 minute yin yoga.

3:40pm- Workout is over. I message my accountability and head downstairs for the best part of the day. It's time to "read" on the couch, which actually means take a nap with Zelda.

5:35pm - Feeding the girls and training Hannah. It sounds like this should be easy, but Hannah needs her gross medication mixed with pumpkin and Zelda takes ages to eat two tablespoons of food, so this ended up being A Thing.

6:00-7:30pm - Make and eat dinner. After dinner, I make some pistachio date balls as an after work snack for the week. They don't look appetizing here, but I promise they're delicious.

7:40pm - Shower.

8:05pm - We start the second episode of Silo on AppleTV.

9:06pm - Hannah and I go around the block before bed. Drippy, dreary night. Hannah is displeased to be outside.

9:18pm - I take my evening medications and brush my teeth.

9:40pm - Finish the last of this post. After this I'll do my line-a-day and goal journals for the day and then do a final check of the kitchen before heading to bed. Fingers crossed lights out by 10:15.

Did you have a chore heavy Sunday or was it more fun heavy? What book are you currently reading?

  1. Sunday was definitely a chore heavy day. Ironing no less!!!

I'm convinced that dogs are just like people only more so, and they either like baths or they don't. Stepdog was a wonderfully well adjusted canine who loved the world, but turned into a feral wildebeest when it was bath time. Doggo has issues with just about everything on this planet except for the bath. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

After a week of "shoulds" I decided to go the fun route yesterday. I went on a bike ride in the morning and finally checked out my neighborhood bike trail. In the afternoon I hit the couch for some veg time on YouTube, and then I met up with Hubs and the boys for Father's Day.

Books! I'm still reading a chapter a day of Showboat, but I'll be finished soon. I'm also reading State of Terror by Louise Penny and Hillary Clinton.

    1. Yeah, I guess I don't really like showering much, either. Maybe Hannah's just picking up on my cues!

I always think I'm going to read Louise Penny books and I check them out of the library and then return them unread. Someday I'm really going to read one!

  3. I need to do one of these because my Sundays just trickle by in a flurry of house admin tasks. I am thinking of getting a giant steamer to do away with ironing once and for all....

    1. I don't mind ironing. It's sort of meditative and I can listen to podcasts while I do it.

  4. Oooh I love posts like this. I just wrote about how dirty Rex is and he doesn't go to the groomer's until THURSDAY. He hates water and I have never bathed him, but he loves the groomer. The situation is dire around here. My biggest takeaway is that you iron things! I haven't ironed anything in years, in fact I got rid of our ironing board when we moved. All my clothes are of the non-iron variety. Other than weeding, Sunday was not a super chore-heavy day for me. But weeding! It's a big job.

    1. Because I'm so insistent on natural fibers, I have a few items of clothing that need to be ironed. And that's okay. I prefer that to the shiny look of manmade materials!

I should probably spend more time in our yard, but honestly I just hate it so I'll do everything in the house and pretend the outdoors doesn't exist!

  5. I haven't ironed in years. I bought a nifty handheld steamer by Conair and I rarely even need to use that. Lots of times, a quick spin in the dryer with a damp towel does the trick. The last time our iron was used was by Rick for some project he was fiddling with in his basement workshop.

When Sam bathes Zydrunas, he just puts him in the shower. Z loves water and loves his bath.

I just finished up The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout, and I'm ready to start Ann Patchett's Whistler today.

    1. I don't actually put most of my clothes in the dryer. *shrug* So the iron it is! Maybe someday I'll got to lower maintenance clothing that doesn't need to be ironed, but not yet.

I'm envious of everyone who has a dog that's easy to bathe!!!

Saturday is my chore heavy day- Sunday is family stuff. Church, shopping, yesterday we had new tires put on the car, baking cake and rolls, and watching a little TV with the cat on my lap. A little nap might have happened. Too much rain to go outside at all.
I am so glad cats don't need baths on a regular basis- I had to give mine baths when they had fleas last year and it did no go well, for my arms or the shower curtain. I can't imagine washing a reluctant dog; but Hannah looks lovely for your efforts.

    1. I mostly just sit around on Saturdays. And then I pay the price on Sunday!

I think it would be a million times hard to wash the cat, to be honest. Zelda does not hesitate to use her teeth and claws - Hannah WOULD NEVER. Bless you for giving a cat a bath.

  7. Phew. For a minute there I was worried your day was going to be ALL chores, but no! You had a lovely couch read/nap with cat- one of my favorite activities. Actually your day sounds like a nice mix of chores and relaxation, and some of the "chores" are kind of fun, like walking Hannah and working on the blog. If my Sunday gets TOO relaxing, I feel like a sloth and then it's not fun anymore.
To answer your question- I just finished Nicole's favorite book, The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood and am now rereading an Agatha Christie.

    1. I don't know if a day could be "too" relaxing for me. I would not feel like a sloth. LOL. I think that indicates something about my innate laziness.

  8. You seem to be so nicely organised with your blog writing! My main problem is that I'm not, and tend to get to the end of the week and oops, perhaps I should have posted something other than the fitness recap - I think I have a lot to learn about planning and writing in advance.
So sorry to hear about your dog's health problem and needing radiation. And regarding baths, cats are very convenient creatures since they take care of all that themselves. But when our cat was little, she loved being in the shower with my husband!
My Sunday was all about garden work and enjoying the sunshine. It involved a lot of tedious work involving weeds, but it was so nice to have it done and finally have a relaxing space in front of the house.

    1. I love that it seems like I'm somehow organized about my blog. It's really just luck one way or another about if anything gets posted on a given day.

Oh, I guess I should be labelling things better. Zelda is the cat and Hannah is the dog. They've both had health woes and the cat's involved radiation. The dog has a dodgy back that was weakened by a nasty spinal infection.

  9. Or was it the cat? I got confused - I read about radiation and then saw the photo of the dog!

  10. This sounds a lot like my Sundays too. This is the only day that my husband have off together and everything gets crammed into this day. Laundry, workouts, yard chores, etc etc. I wish I had a 3 day weekend because then I would have a day for chores, a day for rest, and a day to work on those projects that never get done because I don't have time!

    1. I would just like ONE morning or afternoon off during a weekday every week. I feel like if I had that, I could get so much done that I end up doing on the weekends and then I could relax more on the weekends. I don't need a whole day - just half of one would do, I think!

  11. I hate ironing with the heat of a thousand suns. It is one of my least-favourite jobs. Ugh.

I love the feeling of a shower, but hate dealing with wet hair.

Sunday was SO hot over here. We went to Bristol, England, on a day trip. There was a gas leak and a big chunk of the city ended up being evacuated while we were there, so it was... an adventure. Thankfully, we were fine and it didn't end up impacting our day too much which was a real blessing.

    1. Huh. I don't mind ironing. It's sort of mindless and you have a product at the end. I guess I'm weird about that.

Ugh to a disaster when you're in a new place! That sounds terrifying.

  12. I had to work on Sunday, so no chores for me other than general pick up and kid shuttling to activities.
Right now I’m reading Sing, Unburied, Sing, trying to read through the pile of books I pick up at Little Free Libraries.
I admire that you iron things. I don’t know that I even have an ironing board. I guess my clothes are just wrinkled….

    1. I don't wear manmade materials if I can help it, so ironing comes along with being a fabric snob. That's okay! I don't mind doing it.

I have yet to make it through a Jesmyn Ward book. I don't think I'm smart enough for her.

  13. Wow, what a chore heavy day! But then again, I feel like most days can get chore heavy pretty quickly. I need to deadhead some flowers right now. Good that you’re organized about your blog too. I intended to do a ‘Friday Randomness’ post on Friday but then didn’t start it and thus didn’t finish it. Oh well. More randomness for this week I suppose!

I’ve never had a dog that *likes* baths. I used to bathe my lab Samantha in the tub, and she would escape and run around the house like a wild thing. It was funny, but also really messy.

I’m listening to ‘The Calamity Club’ which is good but really long. I think it’s almost 30 hours and I’m kind of ready to be done. I’m reading ‘Whistler’ on my Kindle app which has reminded me of how much I hate reading books on a device, which is why I got rid of my Kindle and am now stuck using the app, and thankfully I had a gift card to Bookshop.org, and have ordered it for myself. WHEW.

    2. Is that chore heavy? That felt like a normal weekend day. How is everyone else getting their chores done?

Oh, I LOVE reading on an e-book. So much better than a physical book. We are opposites!

  14. If driving is a chore, then mine was chore-heavy. But if driving is fun, mine was fun-heavy. All I know is this: I did a lot of driving. Arrived home just in time for the rain, too.

Currently reading "A Marriage at Sea" (Sophie Elmhirst), which fits in nicely with my love of shipwreck-themed stories.

    1. Driving is the opposite of fun. If I'm in the car more than 20 minutes, the chances are very good I'm going to be whining about it! I'm not jealous of your drives.

I tried to listen to the audiobook of "A Marriage at Sea" and DNFed it pretty quick. I wonder if I should try again reading it with my own eyeballs.

  15. Zelda's coat of fur is amazing! Giving a dog a bath sounds so unpleasant! Thank goodness cats don't need to be bathed by their owners!

I did not do much in the way of chores yesterday but we have a big "divide and conquer" approach to life. It's hard to get things done with the kids around so I tend to take the boys places while Phil does chores. The exception is laundry. I fold all of my and the boys' laundry. Kids generate so much laundry so it is such a Sisyphean task. I don't mind it all that much since I can watch tv or listen to a podcast while doing it but it just feels like I am always folding and putting laundry away! And yes, I did in fact do laundry yesterday. But the main event of the day was going to the pool in Edina. I bought season passes for the boys and me on Saturday so we are going to go there a lot this summer! And I have reached the stage where I only have to go in the water if I want to and can otherwise read and take pictures of the kids living their best lives. They must have jumped into the pool 100 times/day when we were there on Saturday and Sunday and I am not even exaggerating. And yet they were not all that tired. I want to bottle up their energy and drink it.

    1. Why do kids use so much laundry? This is a legitimate question. They are small and their clothes aren't that large. How come people are always doing kid laundry? We do 3-5 loads a week with just the two of us, so 1.5 - 2.5 loads/person, but it seems like people with kids do like 29347 loads/person!

  16. I read about you weighing Zelda while I was looking at the pic of Hannah and was like TEN POUNDS WHAT. Duh.
I was exhausted on Sunday. Dicked around on my phone, dicked around on my computer, stretched a little, wrote most of a blog post but didn't post it for some reason, weeded a little, took my parents out for dinner while Matt was on the train to Montreal to catch a plane for France.

    1. Look. I didn't have to talk to a single person on Sunday who wasn't my husband. If you have to leave the house AND be social, that's like a million times more work than what I did.

  17. Sundays are chore days here, too! From meal prep to sheets to my daughter’s laundry… we get so off schedule if we are “booked” on a Sunday. Maysie doesn’t hate baths, but would rather be playing. She’s currently on her second rainy frisbee session of the day as her energy isn’t concerned with weather, haha! PS: I also love posts like this!

    1. Yes, if we miss Sundays, it throws everything off. Solidarity.

I mean, Hannah would rather be laying around than doing anything else, so I get it. She's just like me in that way. I think I would be exhausted if I had a dog who actually wanted to play.

  18. I don't do a lot of chores on Sundays (I split my tasks up throughout the week since I work from home) but I do a lot of life/house admin that takes longer than I'd like. Sunday was definitely a day for errands and productivity, although I did some reading on the couch so yay for that!

I don't own an iron and haven't ironed anything in years and years.

    1. All this hatred for ironing! Back when I sewed regularly, pressing the fabric is the first step in any pattern, so I definitely NEED an ironing board because when I have time to sew more often, you better believe I'm going to be a pressing fiend.

  19. Do you bathe your dog in the tub? My dog is not a fan of baths either. Her thick fur makes it take a looong time to wash out soap. Then she gets impatient and tries to flee the tub. Now I use a light amount of soap to speed things along! I heard a suggestion from a relative to put a smear of peanut butter around the tub. Her dog was so engrossed in licking it off that he didn't mind the bath. I'm sure there's a little clean up involved there. I'll report back if I try it with my pup.

    1. No, I don't bathe her in the tub for boring reasons. In the summer (now) I use the hose in the driveway. In the winter, I take her to the local pet store where they have bathing stations. She's also on a strict diet, so no peanut butter for her! She's sort of a tricky dog and I wish I had more ways to make it pleasant for her, but we just muddle along.
