May 2026 Photo A Day: Week One

One thing I love about CBWC is that it forces me to pay attention and take photos on a regular basis. I am not always great about paying attention when I walk Hannah - I just listen to a podcast and watch her. Now, watching her is GREAT - she's so cute - but I do miss important things happening in the neighborhood when I never look up.

So I decided this month I'd copy Stephany and take a photo a day. These won't always be from my walks with Hannah, but I bet most will.

Friday, May 1 - This spiderweb was PERFECT. It was covered in dew and just made my morning walk feel special. Anyone else expect to see Charlotte and Wilbur?

Saturday, May 2 - This is the only photo I took all day and normally I'd never show Hannah looking so grumbly. Ha! Well, here she is. A dog who is off leash and was told to stay. She DID stay, but she was not happy about it.

Sunday, May 3 - I have heard rumblings that Zelda does not get enough attention on this blog. Look at this precious face. She and I were cuddling and I couldn't resist.

Monday, May 4 - This is a mural in the town where I work. I probably spent five minutes looking at it, trying to figure out what it's about.

Tuesday, May 5 - I had a fitness class outside today and at the end of the workout, we all just laid on the ground. It was a rough one!

Wednesday, May 6 - One of our colleagues retired last year and they had a tree dedication ceremony today. This is literally the only photo I took. I hope someone else did a better job documenting than I did.

Thursday, May 7 - Just an uncooperative dog. She is my life.

Friday, May 8 - I mentioned yesterday that a colleague was resigning to go elsewhere and I got her a gift. I called it a "first day of work at a new place survival kit." Here's what I put in a gift bag for her: a half dozen chocolate chip cookies; two treats from a local chocolatier; a pencil pouch I stuffed with pens from my university, a pocket journal, and a sticker. You can't really see it very well, but it's a funny card that I bought at an art museum gift shop that says "work hard play hard" and that seemed appropriate.

When was the last time you saw a perfect spiderweb? Can you believe I get to go to a fitness class with that gorgeous view every week?

  1. That's a really nice gift for your former colleague! I'm sure she was really touched.
Yes, I vote for more Zelda photos. Not instead of Hannah photos, of course, but in addition.
That mural is puzzling. But it's cool!

    1. The problem with Zelda is that she's mostly in her tree or the dog's kennel, so it's hard to get good photos. I'll do my best, though! She deserves to be celebrated.

  2. That is a fine, varied collection. And yes, that is a good spot for your exercise class. That was also a delightful, little gift.

    1. Right? And when the light is just perfect to capture it?!

  4. That spider web photo looks exactly like it would come from an illustration of Charlotte's Web! The rustic wooden frame is perfect!

Hannah doesn't look too crabby, but I could imagine an eyeroll with little effort. I'm sure she knows how lucky she is! And is she feeling better?

    1. It's a Little Free Library in our neighborhood. Someone had taken down the spiderweb by the time I returned, so I'm pretty sure not all people appreciated the beauty of it as much as I did.

Hannah is feeling better, I think? She just cannot eat anything outside of her diet.

  5. Did you figure out what's going on in the mural? It looks interesting and beautiful, but I don't know what's happening. I'm so curious to know!

    1. I think the mural is about using the water (maybe it's a water wheel?) from the nearby rivers and streams to mill things? There's the wheel, fire, and workers? I don't really know. But that's the story I told myself!

    1. It's crazy that spiders just know how to build them. Think of all the work that goes into putting up a human house!

  7. Last Friday was the first time I walked along the River Walk since the water receded (except under the Main Street bridge). I was marveling over the view myself, as always!

    1. As of this morning, it's clear even under the bridge. It's crazy how we went from RAIN and FLOODING to IF YOU LIGHT A FIRE THE WHOLE TOWN WILL BURN.

    2. I know! Wisconsin, MAKE UP YOUR MIND. (It'll probably be flooded again in a week.)

  8. Great pictures! I love that Zelda was included this time, though it sounds like she is more difficult to capture. I love that you were able to have your exercise class right by the river, how tranquil!

  9. The fractal wonder of a perfect spiderweb - ugh, amazing. Is that person just lying on the pavement, no yoga mat? That seems ouchy.

    1. Right? She never brings a mat. I don't know how she does push-ups and kneeling postures!

    1. Ha! I'll try to include at least one of the pets every week. We'll see about the people!

  13. You are such a great gift giver, Engie. I love all of those gifts!

That view is INCREDIBLE. Just imagine if it was happening in Florida, you'd be sweating like crazy and being suffocated by humidity. YAY FLORIDA.

  14. I (accidentally) destroyed a perfect spider web this morning watering my plants. It will be back tomorrow I am sure.

You are so good in giving gifts. I hate it but which I was better at it.
