Five for Friday, Edition #32

In the spirit of San's list of five things for NaBloPoMo, I'm going to simply write five things I am planning on doing today on my day off.

1) Put up Christmas decorations - the tree, the outside lights, and everything. It's supposed to be windy and cold, so we might nix the outside stuff if it's too bad and do that later if we have to.

2) Order my holiday cards - I already have THREE (THREE!) holiday cards, including ones from Elisabeth and J. I bought stamps already, so now it's just figuring out what photos to use from 2025 and order a card.

3) Buy some gifts. Not all of them, but I need to get started. Here's who I think I might be buying for this year. Honestly, just typing this out made me feel better. The list is reasonable.

  • My husband
  • The 2-3 niblings we get in the draw
  • Bestest Friend
  • TJC
  • My peer mentor
  • The lady who coordinates yoga at the student union - She's retiring and her last day is January 2. *sigh* Guess who's taking over coordinating yoga?
  • The mail carrier
  • I'll grab a tag or two off an angel tree

4) Take Hannah on an adventure. Last weekend we went to the dog park for the first time in 2025. There are reasons I stopped taking her, but she had a blast and maybe I should be better about taking her to places she can run around off-leash more often.

Dog park last Sunday. I love her furrowed brow. What does she have to be worried about?

5) When I came back from my cleaning my mother's stuff, I had two totes with me. One of those totes is mostly photographs. The other tote is stuff - paper products, knickknacks, craft supplies, etc. I did a first pass on Wednesday and organized it, but I'd like to get the rest of that tote put away/dealt with. The tote with the photographs is a longer project, but it does remind me that maybe I should put a photograph album or two on my holiday list.

Bonus
6) Write a holiday wish list. Right now, I'm thinking I want a fancy new hair dryer and maybe a flat iron. Maybe.

  1. Hannah always looks...majestic.
Hooray for the first holiday cards of the season. I was so paranoid about Canada Post I sent mine out obscenely early. Also, I didn't order photocards this year which saved time so I was ready much earlier than usual. I have mild regret about not ordering a photocard. Oh well...maybe next year??

    1. No regrets about cards! You got some out in the mail - that's all that you need to do. And I know you wrote a lovely note in my mine, so sometimes that handwritten note is more special than a photo card with nothing written.

  2. I think your day-after plans are good plans as you make the switch from one holiday to the beginnings of the next.

    1. Yes! I agree! Then there's supposed to be a winter storm, so I'm even more grateful for time to just be at home.

  3. Wait. WAIT. Are YOU taking over the yoga coordinating????
You reminded me that I STILL haven't dealt with all the photos I have had printed. I'm getting more and more behind on this project that I have been putting off for OVER A YEAR. It's not that hard and yet I'm MAKING it hard! In my head it's an enormous thing, but it probably could get sorted in an hour. Why am I being so slow with this? WHYYYY

    1. Well, I'm taking over the coordinating which is basically reserving the room and picking a video to do. There are a number of yoga teachers on campus, so maybe I can persuade them to do a live class once a semester as a special treat. I am obviously *not* a yoga teacher, so I'm not going to lead it or anything.

The photo stress is real for me right now, but I'm giving myself a break on it. The photos will be there after the new year and it seems like a middle of the winter project.

  4. You have an ambitious day planned! I mean just putting up the Christmas decs is a big job. Good luck with it- i hope the weather cooperates.
Hannah does look worried, ha ha. It's funny because Foxy has a resting sad face- it's just the way his markings are. He's definitely the happiest cat I know, so it's funny to look at his "sad" little eyes.

    1. Well, we did some yard work and put up the outside lights, but my husband is resistant to the idea of putting up the tree today, so we might do it tomorrow. More time on the couch for me to read!

  5. Yes to dog adventures! I'm not saying that my dog is spoiled, but every time that we put her harness on, her first move is to the door by our garage because she expects to be taken to a park instead of around the block for her walks.

    1. Ha! Hannah HATES getting in the car, so if I put her harness on and don't put her leash on, but expect her to go to the garage and jump in the car, she acts like she is on a forced march to her end. I think Doggo should teach Hannah some lessons.

  6. Hannah is such a good-looking dog. So compact and lean. And those eyes!

I've been taking a Pants Hemming approach to my photographs. IYKYK

    1. Thank you for complimenting Hannah. She is a gorgeous girl and she likes knowing you think so.

I do not know what you mean about the Pants Hemming approach. Soon enough everything will be someone else's problem!

  8. I'm glad making the list of gifts to get made you feel better - I'm the same way. I hope to get some Christmas decor up this weekend, but nothing outside, because it is flipping COLD outside and windy. Coach does the outdoor stuff and maybe he'll skip it this year. I don't really mind. I'm hosting my college alum group for a Christmas party on Dec. 10th, so I need to get my butt in gear. Hoping to delegate while kids are home. Extra hands, etc.

I hope you give yourself a break with the photo project. You're right - they'll still be here in the new year. Good luck getting some of these things accomplished today.

    1. It was cold when we put the lights up on Friday, but now it's snowing, so it was a good thing we got them up when we did!

  9. It sounds like you're getting Christmas under control! I've got a good start on it, too, and I'm going to start working on cards tomorrow. I'm feeling excited about Christmas this year!

    1. As soon as I finish answering these blog comments, I am ordering our Christmas card! I'm going to get that done ASAP.

  10. If you haven’t gotten my card yet, you will tomorrow probably. Phil says I send them obnoxiously early but I like to get them out of the way. And I do very little since we pay extra to get them addressed. I am excited for the best mail season of the year.

So once you get a revlon blow dryer brush you likely won’t need a flat iron anymore. I no longer need one now that I have the revlon round brush blow dryer thing. And I say this as a person who is terrible at doing hair. That blow dryer brush has been the best beauty purchase!

    1. So, I'm actually going to get a T3, I think. I am holding off on the flat iron until I see how it works. Fingers crossed it's all I need!

  11. I love your list (of lists) :) Is there anything better than to get organized? I feel like that already takes care of half the battle! I also love that you write your own Christmas wish list. It's fun.

    1. Dr. BB and I trade wish lists every year! I don't know how else to do it if we want to get each other gifts we truly need and/or want. I will usually go off script for something, though!

  12. I am struggling to think of things I want for Christmas. A gift card for a massage? A gift card for Sephora? Gift cards are fabulous, but not fun to open. Really, I just want to lose 30 lbs and have peace on earth. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

    1. No, J, I think those are reasonable asks. Put them on your wish list!

  13. OK, the comment field was not playing well with my keyboard and I could not add anything to my comment, so I will now ask, isn’t your dog park crowded with other dogs? Ours is always a mad house, and I didn’t like how Mulder was treated there (by the other dogs). She’s such a pretty girl, I’m glad she knows that.

    1. Our dog park is ginormous - over 100 acres. When we went last time, we ran into about half a dozen dogs. There were probably eighteen cars in the lot, so I know we just didn't see a bunch of them. The main problem is that Hannah bullies young dogs. If a dog is a puppy, Hannah is like a magnet and she's mean to them. So we do take a lot of interesting paths to avoid interacting with any dog who doesn't look ancient and infirm.
