September Week One Photo Roundup

My thirty day goal for September is to take a photo every day. I'm going to just do a quick photo roundup each week to keep myself accountable.

Monday, September 1 - Labor Day!
The kids were playing pool as I was packing up. I made them all pose for me and they were good sports about it. (If anyone wants a blast from the past, here is a photo of O - the tall kid in the yellow Hawkeyes shirt below - as a preemie.)

Tuesday, September 2
First day of class for the semester. Because Dr. BB is teaching super early, we're getting up even earlier than before. I am going to have to do something about my lack of SAD lamp time, but that's a problem for another week. It was super foggy and creepy on my (early) morning walk with Hannah.

Wednesday, September 3
Pile of lanyards on my boss's desk. We're supposed to wear these lanyards that say "ASK ME" on them and she was going to pass them out to faculty. I don't know why, but this made all of us laugh when we walked into her office. (Also, I have had "Ask Me" by Amy Grant in my head for days now. If you don't know that song, maybe don't listen. It's sad.)

Thursday, September 4
Pile of stuff for yoga in the student union at lunchtime. Raise your hand if you can spot the lanyard from yesterday's photo!

Friday, September 5
What a crazy day at work. I had a zillion student appointments and reached out to a couple dozen more of the students I am tracking for one reason or another (generally if you end up on my caseload, I try to follow you for a few semesters and then I think I should just keep tracking until graduation, you know?). Meanwhile, it was a gorgeous day in Wisconsin - perhaps a tad bit chilly for me and you'll notice I'm wearing a scarf, but I'm keeping this positive - and Hannah was READY for her walk.

Saturday, September 6
I have no idea what this sign means, but I immediately thought to myself that the Thirteenth Amendment made this shit illegal.

Sunday, September 7
Bike with Dr. BB! I swore we'd do more bike rides this fall and I'm honestly going to try for one or two a week. He was a good sport to stop and take a photo with me.

If you are new around here, this is one of my town's sculptures of the main dairy cows here in Wisconsin. This is the red and white.

Did you have any fun adventures this weekend? See any cows, real or sculptural?

    1. The color was supposed to be grey! Instead it was this horrible purple color. I got a new pedicure this weekend and got rid of that ugly color!

  2. Yes! I am happy to follow along and keep you accountable.

You know I'm a big fan of the biking date. Hubs and I are now one ride away from completing the 100 mile bike trail.

    1. Our rides are so short. LOL. But if we do them more often, maybe I'll build up more endurance.

  3. The "Ask Me" lanyards made me laugh. So I need to know, did anyone ask you?

    1. No, of course not. This generation of students doesn't talk to people.

  4. Oooh I like this project! We had a spontaneous trip to Calgary and Canmore this past week, came back on Saturday, so I will count that as a fun adventure. It really was fun (we went for my friend's birthday but met up with a ton of people, all good times.)

    1. A spontaneous trip! How fun. That does not happen much in my world.

  5. Love the photo project.
Raising my hand that I definitely saw the lanyard in the yoga pile!

I didn't do many fun things on the weekend, but I did take several naps and goodness those were needed. I really should have done some housecleaning, but I read books in any spare moments instead. Gold stars to me, right?

You love scarves, so that's a small win! I also know you hate cold weather and dressing for it and I completely get it. I love the ease of leaving the house without changing anything about what I'm wearing and just slipping into sandals. Sigh. Those days will soon be in the rearview mirror, but I am really looking forward to wearing some sweaters as sweater weather is my favourite weater!

    1. We slept for more than nine hours each night, so I definitely think naps and reading are worthy of gold stars.

I'm not looking forward to cold weather at all. *sigh* I'm going to buy some news clothes, though, to help me get through this winter.

  6. A photo a day is a good thing to do. Sue does it for her group but always following prompts. I probably almost do it but not quite because I’ve never made a point to it. I do take plenty, however. I take most with the blog in mind. I don’t know how many I would ale otherwise as my photography hobby is in a state of flux since I have all but retired my big rig.

    1. I'm just taking all photos on my camera phone. No need to bust out our big camera, either, especially if I'm just going to be at work most of the day.

  7. Not just ASK ME, but a QR code, so that they can awkwardly focus their phone on your chest for awhile. Just lovely.

    1. No worries, Nance. It's not as if anyone actually did ask me for anything, you know?

  8. If stacking a cord of wood counts as a fun adventure, then yes! Definitely! (It does not, but I can pretend.) Pretty sure I saw some of those same cow sculptures as you.

  9. I am really stymied by the Ask Me lanyards. Ask you... what? Also, what is the QR code for and where does it go? Are people supposed to ask you for permission to scan the QR code? WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN.

A photo a day project sounds wonderful. I feel like I could easily do that... but it would just all be photos of my cat. Your selection is much more interesting. (Although I would not mind in the least a September's worth of Hannah/Zelda photos.)

    1. The lanyards were meant to show first year students who were safe people to ask questions to. It was their first week on campus. Most of the questions would be about where buildings were, so the QR code would take you to a campus map. But kids these days (shrugs at being old) don't talk to people, so these lanyards were a waste of resources as far as I could tell.

  10. Ok the more I look at the ASK ME lanyard the more confused I am. Why have a QR code if the idea is for the student to ask you things, not the internet? Or is it for you to use to pull up info if you don’t know what a student asks? Hmmmm. I’m getting flashbacks to weird campus stuff from when I was a grad student/TA now.

A photo day is a fun challenge! I love Hannah’s glowing collar. We had a big black dog many years ago and my grandad was always into gadgets and he was so pleased when he found a flashing red collar for the doggo. Hannah’s picture made me think of him - thank you!

    1. The QR code goes to a campus map. I could see it being useful in theory. In actuality, I asked two people who were wandering around my building what they were looking for and helped them find their way. I never used it.

Your grandad knew the score! You gotta be able to see the dogs in the dark!

  11. A photo a day seems like fun and doable. I wonder how much the men are? Are they discounted, or just For Sale? Honestly, I don't need another man, but I have friends...
No big adventures for me this past weekend aside from a fun, friend-filled Bridal Shower.

  12. I'm disappointed that you didn't follow the sign to the "man sale." What is it???? Now we'll never know.
    i like this project!

    1. Honestly, who would even want to buy a man? I already have a perfectly good one. Maybe a single woman would? What could this sign possibly mean?!
