What? You didn't think there were enough photos in yesterday's post? You think you need to see more about my life this week?
1) I cannot stress to you just how much stick chewing is happening these days. Also, check out that side eye. She does not trust me.
2) Alium alert! Alium alert!
3) Baby birds! The first photo is ducklings and the second is goslings.
4) I have mentioned that Zelda has taken over Hannah's kennel, right? Well, the whole house smelled like dog last weekend and I took all the bedding from the kennel to wash it. Zelda did not care.
Here's where I'm going to admit something I'm a tad bit embarrassed about. Zelda is on steroids to help with her IBS/maybe cancer. She's putting on a lot of weight fast - we're trying to control it, but there's only so much we can do. Because of this extra weight, she's having a hard time grooming herself and she has mats on her hind legs. I am brushing her every day, but the mats are stubborn (as is the cat) and I'm feeling like a really terrible cat friend.
5) I have reached an age at which I'm comfortable saying that I'll never be good at selfies.
****************
What's the flower situation in your neck of the woods? Have you seen any baby birds this year?
You are an excellent dog and cat friend, and I won't have you say anything mean about yourself in that way! (Your work with Hannah last week was heroic, and--as you say--Zelda is stubborn AND A CAT!)
ReplyDeleteThere was nothing heroic about poor Hannah - just dealing with reality. Poor baby dog. It is healing really well, though, so I'm relieved about that.
DeleteAwww, I love your selfies!
ReplyDeleteOMG Engie. Flowers flowers flowers. My perennial garden is POPPING. The irises are up, the tulips - that Rob's grandma, whose house this originally was, planted them I don't even know when - are up, my lilacs are still going, everything is flowers right now!
I saw a goose family swimming happily on the lake the other day! I haven't spotted ducks yet but who knows, perhaps today is the day.
Yay for flowers!! It is a fabulous time of year for things just randomly popping out of the ground.
DeleteZelda may not be well, but she is a beaut.
ReplyDeleteShe's definitely the queen of our house.
DeleteHannah has perfected that side eye!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any baby birds or ducks and now I'm feeling very left out!
But I can hear all sorts of birds singing outside my window now so that has to count for something, right?
The morning chorus of birdsong has been UNREAL around us. There have been a few nights when we've been able to have the windows open and the birds are going crazy even before our alarm goes off. I am not used to it yet!!
DeleteYay stick! Doggo is on a mission to take down every stick in her path. In general Doggo loves other dogs, but once one of her cousin dogs went into her kennel, and Doggo let her know that she had Crossed the Line.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the first time I saw Hannah see Zelda in Hannah's kennel, I though Hannah would lose it, but she just shrugged it off. She really does recognize Zelda as In Charge.
DeleteI had a similar challenge with my older cat and totally understand the feelings... the vet recommend one of these brushes. I as really skeptical, but it did work- https://www.amazon.com/dematting-deshedding-comb-brush-rake/dp/B07SR5M71B/ref=asc_df_B07SR5M71B?mcid=2f0e8b112d973a46912bf684a43bf9c1&hvocijid=17759507257981250338-B07SR5M71B-&hvexpln=73&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=721245378154&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17759507257981250338&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9007832&hvtargid=pla-2281435180298&psc=1
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I've never seen a comb like that. I'll have to try it. Anything has to be better than Zelda avoiding me because she's scared I'm going to come after her mats.
DeleteThe alliums are popping up all over our yard too! I've seen baby ducklings on the Rock River recently. Probably the same ones you shared.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen those ducklings since. I wonder where they went.
DeleteI’m cracking up at Zelda taking over Hannah’s crate even minus the comfort of cushion or blankets. I’ve planted nothing. Flowers are blooming, but not in my yard. Tank comes home Monday (driving to his graduation rn). He is a landscaping genius. I’m wondering if he might be interested in working on our unimpressive yard. I love seeing little lines of babies following their mother duck/goose.
ReplyDeleteWe don't do anything in our yard except pull things out and there are STILL a million blooms. I don't understand how it's even possible to not have stuff everywhere. Maybe Tank should come to my house and tell me how to get things under control.
DeleteYou are THE BEST cat friend, Engie, seriously, if you are not, who the heck is? You are doing the best that can be done. Also Zelda in the big crate is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love baby birds. We don't have a whole lot of flowers yet, but we've had a done of rain and now it is hot, so many it's coming.
Oh, your flowers are COMING! It's perfect conditions for them to just start popping out all over.
DeleteA post full of animals.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the baby gooslings around here. And I think on Thursday night I spotted a beaver. It would be the first ever in the wild. They are starting to come here after being almost extinct in my area.
I think you do so much for your animals. I bet your are great cat and dog friend.
Oh, ha! I didn't even notice that animals were the common theme, aliums aside. I was just so excited about warm weather.
DeleteA beaver! I have seen ONE in the wild and it was wild. I see muskrats more often here.
You'd feel way better if you saw my chubby old cats. They've been on diet food since they were 6 months old, but it just doesn't matter. They are also huge cats, very tall (part Maine Coon), but it's undeniable that they are overweight.
ReplyDeleteYou're a super pet parent. It's because of you that I now brush Marlowe 30 seconds every day, and it's made a huge difference in our lives. She still gets mats (same place as Zelda), but they aren't as bad and brushing isn't such an ordeal anymore. (Also, I've taken to clipping out her mats instead of using a mat tool. Those things always seem to pull and hurt no matter what.)
Yay for brushing just a tiny bit each day. It really does make a difference. I am trying to clip the mats out, but they are so close to the skin that I'm scared I'm going to hurt her. :( It's slow and I'm not sure how much progress I have made, but I'm also not sure what other options we have. I can't imagine taking her to a groomer...
DeleteYou are such a good pet parent! Long haired cats have a big grooming job and you're so good to help her with it. I love the side eye! The goslings! The alliums! We are just starting to get a few blossoms on our apple trees. I thought we were going to have tulips, but something ate them!! How rude! I haven't seen any baby birds yet, but I've seen some nesting going on.
ReplyDeleteI just saw a robin's egg on the ground today, so I think that means baby robins are around the corner here. It's a very exciting spring.
DeleteDo you think it was a squirrel that ate the tulip bulbs? We blame everything on squirrels.
Squirrels will eat any tulip bulbs that are, for some reason, not red or yellow. I found this out the hard way. I lost dozens and dozens of lavender, pink, and white tulips after one blooming year.
DeleteI was on steroids for 10 months so I feel for Zelda. Poor girl. The weight gain is REAL. And it is not coming off easily now that I’m off steroids. :/ But it is a wonder drug for a lot of conditions.
ReplyDeleteWe have not see any baby birds but I have been watching for them. Baby geese are so fluffy and cute so I always take pictures when I encounter some. I haven’t seen alium yet!
Yes, you get it Lisa. I'm sorry it's been hard to manage the weight. It's hard with some medications! You just have to do the best you can.
DeleteWe have a robin's nest in the beams under our elevated deck. The baby birds are cute, the parents are aggressive toward us however. Like we'd ever hurt one other theirs!
ReplyDeleteNesting parents are FOR REAL aggressive, aren't they? The worst offenders around here are definitely geese and red-winged blackbirds. They don't know that we're nice!
DeleteI forgot to tell you about the BABY HERONS I saw on campus last week. Alas, I was driving, so no photos. Baby. Herons. My heart. (Also? I was walking across the dark parking lot one morning - no, you do not want to know what time it was, thanks - and was not paying attention, and sensed something nearby. I looked to my right, and the adult heron was <1 foot from my right leg. Egads. They clearly spend too much time around humans!)
ReplyDeleteAlso, the allium is lovely but also kind of randomly planted in the middle of that bed. I hope some flower friends showed up eventually...
