Sunday, March 9
25-minute total body with light weights - I stopped this a bit early because I did something to my back. I was using three pound weights and things were fine until they weren't. Off to figure out what's going on with my back.

Were you sidelined because of any injuries/illnesses in March?
Ouch! I've never had a kidney stone, but I'm pretty sure that if you think you had one that you did.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the dog and puppy call outs for the workouts.
I've had a lot of kidney stones - I had one right before we got married and it was the first one I'd ever had diagnosed, but a CT scan showed that my ureter was greatly pocked, indicating I'd had them before. Whenever I have back or flank pain, it's always a toss up if I've done something to a back muscle or have a kidney stone!
DeleteThis one was a toss up because it was a very sharp pain in the middle of a lunge. It was possible that I had just messed up my form or had too much weight or something, but because the pain moved throughout the next few days, I think it was a kidney stone that eventually passed. There was a lot of Tylenol and hot compresses.
Wait! You had a kidney stone!!! I've never had one but I understand it's painful. Well- glad you're okay. Great month of workouts- you had a good variety. To answer your question... I wasn't sidelined with anything in March, but I'm still managing a very angry hamstring. I'm trying to simultaneously forge ahead with my training but also baby that leg a little- it's tricky.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've had a few kidney stones and they are quite painful. Oh, well. I've always been able to pass them without intervention, so I'm lucky.
DeleteUgh. I hope that hamstring doesn't impact your upcoming race!
Ugh, kidney stones are SO painful. I have left knee pain plus the regular neck pain and lower back pain that I try to address by juggling yoga, walking, massage therapy, chiro and physio. It's a pain in the ass (well, several other places actually) trying to figure out the exact balance of moving enough while not moving too much.
ReplyDeleteYES!! I am having a bit of a knee issue and I can't tell if I should be resting it or actually doing exercises to stretch and strengthen it. Why aren't the answers to anything clear?
DeleteOuch! I'm sorry to read about your kidney stone. That's lousy, but over with now? I wasn't sidelined by anything other than the wacky weather in March. I walk outside, so...
ReplyDeleteThe weather here has been sidelining me, too. Lately it's been crazy thunderstorms. I'm NOT walking the dog when there's thunder and lightning!
DeleteI love the idea of lighting a candle. It's representative of the time you're putting in to caring for your body (the faster the candle burns down, the more care you're giving yourself?).
ReplyDeleteI did a full body workout this week with weights and it has slayed me. My legs are SO sore because, as you said about a CG workout, there were too many squats. Once it gets above 60ish in a session I should know enough to turn it off. Now I'm hobbling around and easing myself up and down out of chairs. At least I know I targeted some lesser-used muscle groups.
Squats and lunges can be so painful the next day! Throw in some Romanian deadlifts and you've got a recipe for some tough up and downs.
DeleteGasp! You had a kidney stone!? Those are awful. Good heavens. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteMarch was bad for me. I had a terrible cold/flu/something that waylaid me for almost 2 weeks. I could not stop coughing and I missed some great weather for walking. It sapped my strength completely. And then there were the migraines, thanks to weather. I'm hoping April is kinder.
Egads. I hope April is better, too. At the very least, it should slowly warm up, right?
DeleteGrrl: Love your candle; hate your kidney stone.
ReplyDeleteI was sidelined by inertia... is laziness an illness?
Ha! Laziness is my general state of being. I feel you so hard.
DeleteAck, it was a kidney stone? HORRIBLE! I'm glad you're on the mend.
ReplyDeleteI find restorative yoga classes to be really hard. I have a lot of trouble just chilling and emptying my mind. Shavasana is my least favorite pose. Monkey mind. Lists of things to do. Distracted by noises of Ted and Maya getting ready for work. Every once in a while I do well and I find it is actually restorative when I manage it. I sometimes light a candle too, but mine are a couple of battery operated ones. HA! I'm lazy and cheap.
Happily, no injuries nor illness for me in March.
I actually really like restorative classes and find I can (usually) drop in pretty quickly. But a couple of these videos had poses that were really tricky for me to hold for 3-4 minutes!
DeleteDoes the bitter cold count as sidelining me? It warmed up in the last week of March and I started running again, so that was nice. Just in time to go back to work and not having the time to run... oh well. I'll sneak it in somehow.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a kidney stone, but a good friend of mine did and she was telling me how painful it was and how small kidney stones are. Such a small thing - so much pain!
Kidney stones are SO SMALL. But, man, they can really mess you up. Oh, well. I think it's gone now.
DeleteI feel you on trying to figure out exercise when you're working all day. When do you see your family or eat AND exercise? It's complicated.
Just a minor cold early in the month, but I soldiered on.
ReplyDeleteHa. When I get sick (even a minor cold), I do not soldier on. I take to my bed with warm compresses and Tylenol and think that I am going to die. I'm clearly in it for the drama.
Delete...and I thought men had a bad reputation for dramatizing colds!
DeleteI rarely get sick, so when I do, I live for the drama. My husband is ten times worse than I am, though, and he refuses to take medicine, so he takes forever to recover.
DeleteI have been sidelined end of march and start of April due to the flue and some 4 days of a fever. I hope I can slowly get back to next week. Thank you for linking some of the videos. I have saved four I want to try out. I lately have been doing Kassandras videos too and I like them.
ReplyDeleteKassandra is really good. I like that there are sometimes random cats crawling all around her!
