6:15am - Morning walk with Hannah. She loves the cooler weather and would have stayed outside all morning if I would have let her/had time for that.
7:26am - Brush my teeth and put on makeup.
8:45am - At work! There was a beeping noise this morning and none of us could figure out where it was coming from. Then it stopped.
9:59am - I almost forgot I was doing this photo thing. Work, work, work.
10:12am - Ran over to the campus library to pick up a book. It is a beautiful looking day, but boy is it cold. It's hovering right around freezing and I should probably have my winter coat on, but I am still wearing my fall/spring coat.
Look at the flags. So much wind! |
11:20am - I am still working. Actually I'm goofing off while a student no shows me.
12:50pm - On my way to class. Still cold. I may never be warm again.
2:56pm - I'm going to a meeting and my supervisor told me that it was cold in the conference room, so I should bring a blanket. This is what I'm bringing to the meeting.
Nothing in the 3 o'clock hour because I was in a meeting and that would have been RUDE.
4:45pm - Another walk with Hannah. I have on my winter coat and boots now, so we were out for a while because I'm toasty warm and Hannah loves the cold.
5:47pm - Finishing up a workout.
6:02pm - Feeding the girls while our dinner is reheating.
7:39pm - Why, yes, we are at Costco an hour before closing two days before Thanksgiving. Why, yes, the shelves are really bare, but don't worry because there are approximately eight million giant pumpkin pies for sale. No, we didn't buy a pumpkin pie.
8:47pm - Had to scoop the litter and put it in the bin we have designated for her radioactive waste. That's what three and a half week's worth of litter and puke looks like! We have two more bins (the grey ones to the left) ready to go for when the original bin fills.
9:04pm - Another walk with Hannah. I have recently heard that some people do not walk their dogs three times a day. Imagine all the time I would have on my hands if I did not walk her! I am listening to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when I'm walking her, so I don't really mind.
10:01pm - One more photo on this post and then I'm going to bed!
My desk is a mess, but that's fine, right? |

For those of you who live in colder climates, have you worn your winter coat yet? Have you ventured into a superstore during Thanksgiving week?
I've been wearing my winter coat for week. It was so mild this fall we didn't turn on the heat until 11/15. However, at work I'm always cold so I have blankets and scarves waiting for me.
ReplyDeleteI need to forage at the grocery store this morning- I hope they have asparagus left. I'll hit superstore on Sunday, returning kid to college- by then it'll just be black Friday sales ( which i dont care about) and hopefully the food will be restocked.
Yesterday was the first day I broke out my winter coat. I'm glad I did, though. There's no need for me to be cold.
DeleteThe grocery store the day before Thanksgiving - go with God, friend.
I've been wearing my winter coat for a while, but it's my light winter coat. My heavy duty one has not been necessary yet. Rex also loves the cold! I don't walk him three times a day, just once, but it's a long one. He has free range of our property though, so he's not suffering.
ReplyDeleteOh, you're definitely in a colder place than I am. I only have one winter coat and if it's really cold, I just have to layer up!
DeleteI think Rex gets plenty of exercise and stimulation!
I have worn my winter coat off and on. The temperatures are very confusing this month.
ReplyDeleteWow. A Costco trip before Thanksgiving. That is courage. I need to go to the grocery store today, and am trying to drum up the gumption to leave the house. Not sure if going right when it opens will allow me to beat the crowds or join them.
Is there a time without crowds at the store the day before Thanksgiving?!
DeleteI am wearing my winter coat, but it's one of several and my "lighter" and "dressier" one. Like you I hate the cold and right now my feet are freezing because I'm waiting at a mechanic shop and don't have my fancy heating mat.
ReplyDeleteI love these posts. So fun. I need to copycat this. I love the picture of Hannah in the twilight with the lights. Love the pig blanket. Love that you didn't want to be rude and take a picture in a meeting (though it would have been funny!).
I considered how to take a photo in that meeting, but I wasn't sure how that would work. Oh, well. Maybe next time I'll just take a photo of my shoes or something.
DeleteThis is a fun, low stress sort of post, as long as you remember to take a photo every hour!
The first photo of Hannah would make me adopt her immediately if it were a shelter photo. There's something about her eyes in that one that makes my heart just melt.
ReplyDeleteI charged the battery for my heated coat this week. But I REFUSE to wear a winter coat yet. I have a fleece liner from one of my husband's old coats that is ridiculously warm, and I wear that when I go on my daily walks. I'm sure I look ridiculous (he's 6'3" and wears an XL; I'm 5' 4" and wear a S), but I don't care. For other places when I do care, I have a faux leather coat, unlined, that blocks the wind.
I ran into the grocery store yesterday just to grab a few things and to Beat The Crowds On Wednesday. Sigh. I wasn't the only one with that Bright Idea.
I hope Hannah's never in a shelter to use that as her photo! She's a good girl and I appreciate that she tolerates me taking her photo.
DeleteYou have to wear what you have to wear to be warm! That's my philosophy anyway.
I don't own a winter coat, but I was wishing I had one for last week's football game. It was at night, and the tamps dipped down to the uper 50s- turns out that REALLY COLD when you're just sitting there for hours. Plus I'm a wimp. I would shrivel up and die if I lived where you do.
ReplyDeleteYou'd get used to it, I promise. You've done it before!
DeleteI am still wearing my red-black jacket out and not my winter coat yet, but it has been nice until recently for the most part. It's below freezing now, but it is sunny, so we shall see if I go for a walk later.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was a really lovely fall here this year, too. I only busted out my winter coat yesterday because there's no need to be cold.
DeleteMy winter coat is at home, so if it gets cold, I just layer up. If you see me walking down the street with all my shirts and coats on, that is because it's cold out. However, it has not really gotten below freezing yet, so I am still good to go.
ReplyDeleteMy brother's GF worked in the Costco bakery and she said they sold something like 6,000 pumpkin pies the day before Thanksgiving, and like some ridiculous number (40,000?) for the week before. They were cranking those bad boys out!
I believe the number of pumpkin pies! It seemed like every cart (besides ours) had one. It was like all the pumpkins were being used just at that one Costco!
DeleteI have a conference room blanket, too! I have worn A winter coat; I have a puffer one for normally cold days and then a big heavy one for seriously cold days. I have worn the normal cold one but not the heavy one so far. I do my best not to go into stores Thanksgiving week, but we made a wild pivot yesterday to staying home and cooking / baking for ourselves so it had to happen and it was everything I thought it would be, oof, haha!
ReplyDeletePeople with multiple winter coats are fancy! I just have the one and if it's too cold for that coat, well, I guess I don't need to go outside!
DeleteI don't really wear my winter coat in the normal run of things. I used to, and then I was always too hot, and fibromyalgia means being hot makes me feel super unwell. I put a coat in the car when I'm driving anywhere, because it's logical and also because my mom and Matt yell at me if I don't. I often am driving wearing short sleeves and mittens, because my hands do get cold - really sexy look.
ReplyDeleteFor walking Lucy when it's cold I either wear a warm sweatshirt with a light jacket or a t-shirt and a fleecy jacket, with dollar store gloves that are always in the pocket.
Do you teach a class? I thought you were more of a resource person, and I am interested in hearing about the class.
We had a Costco pumpkin pie one year at my sister's for Thanksgiving and it sat in everyone's stomachs like an anvil, so you probably made the right call.
I teach THREE classes, Allison. Maybe I'll do a post on that. They're not big classes, but I do get to be in charge. LOL.
DeleteEveryone had those pies in their carts. They're HUGE.
I wore my winter coat yesterday for the first time. It was below 20 at the start of the day and while I was barely outside, I wanted to be warm when I was outside. The boys were wearing lighter fall jackets until late last week when we dipped into the 20s/30s.
ReplyDeletePhil did our grocery shopping on Sunday morning and he said it was TERRIBLE. He went to Aldi and Cub. We do not have a Costco membership... my MIL gifted us one probably 3-4 years ago and we have yet to activate it. There isn't a Costco close to us and we are all about convenience in this stage of life, so we just have my MIL buy things for us when she goes to Costco which is basically one of her hobbies.
Costco is not close to us at all, so it's quite a thing to drive out there and do a trip. It does save us a lot of money, though, so I can't complain about the drive too much.
DeleteOh yes, been wearing a winter coat for about a month now. And also yes to Costco just a few days ago. We found a "Business Centre Costco" which is typically a lot less busy. If you haven't been to one, imagine Costco but with industrial kitchen appliances and the usual bulk items, on steroids. However, you can still get most of the basics too. In Canada Thanksgiving was early October so, currently, no pumpkin pie crowds.
ReplyDeleteI just looked into it and the closest Costco Business Center to me is about three hours away. LOL. I'll probably not go there.
DeleteYou brought back memories of Costco shopping in March 2020. The shelves were almost bare...except for cauliflower rice.
ReplyDeleteWhen we first got Doggo we didn't have a fence so anytime that she was outside we were outside. At that time she wouldn't go far from the house, so it was a lot of walking in circles around the house, and later on she got brave and would walk up and down the street a bit, but would never get that far away from the house. Let me tell you that I never listened to as many podcasts in my life as those first few months, and also that I didn't really mind.
We got a fence a few months ago and she got the hang of regular dog walks, so we're back to our normal laziness of only dog walks a day.
Yeah, I don't mind walking the dog, to be honest. She's such a good sport about being cooped up inside all day. It's the least I can do for her. And I get to listen to podcasts or audiobooks and be outside and she is so happy. I love having a dog.
DeleteWhen I worked in an office, I had to have a back up sweater available always. I so dislike being cold. What a pretty location for a walk. Does Hannah have a funky food dish? It looks like it has little dividers or something in it. Oh, the radio active waste containers - so not fun.
ReplyDeleteI have a sweater and a scarf at work. And extra shoes. And a blanket. And a heated desk pad. LOL. I don't like to be cold, either!
DeleteHannah has what's known as a slow feed dog dish. A lot of dogs, particularly larger dogs, will wolf their food down and it can cause them to choke or to get bloat. This type of bowl slows them down.
Yes! I love these posts! Thanks for sharing! I can't believe you could take that photo at Costco at ANY point the weekend before Thanksgiving! It took me three years of being taught the lesson of "Costco is a shit show within a week of Thanksgiving" for me to learn it, but BOY did I learn it. I told my husband last week, I have to go to Costco today or it will be a week before and I can't be there a week before! Your pets are so cute. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteSo the thing is that I bring a salad to Thanksgiving and it needs to feed a couple dozen people, so I feel like I NEED to get that large quantity of produce at Costco and I can't get it too far ahead of time because produce doesn't keep. So that's why we ended up there. We have to do it every year!
DeleteI wonder... what class did you take / or teach? Booh for the no-show. I hate it when you sit there and can't really use the time as you need to sit there.
ReplyDeleteI have a very warm winter coat that I haven't used in probably three winters. I dont even know if it fits.
Right now I still wear my flimsy outdoor boat coat with more layers underneath. I have my regular black business coat that I start wearing but for many people that doesnt count as winter coat. For me it is.
I teach a freshman seminar on Tuesdays. It's pretty low-key and not a huge part of my role.
DeleteYour wardrobe really does differ depending on climate. I could never survive without my winter coat!
I love Bibliomama's description of the Costco pumpkin pie - sits in your stomach like an anvil! Oh, your face waiting for the no-show. How rude of that person! I have various layers of winter coats. I'm mostly at medium warmth so far. I have one for below zero weather, and I hate it when I have to get that one out.
ReplyDeleteWow! I have a coat for spring/fall and I have a coat for winter. It's just a question of what I wear under it - base layers, heated vest, etc. I'm impressed with people who have various strengths of coats.
DeleteI almost always end up at the grocery store the evening before a major holiday. The fact that I didn't this year is a win! And I most definitely have broken out my winter coat this week. Brrr!
ReplyDeleteIt did get cold here quickly, didn't it?
DeleteLove these glimpses into your daily life... but tell me, do you really work with just ONE screen? LOL (I have three now and it's almost not enough, but I also do a lot of "visual" work, so I need more real estate).
ReplyDeleteI have not been to a Superstore during Thanksgiving week (luckily) and TJs was empty on Black Friday morning!
Oh, no, San, I have two screens. I have them set up so one is in front of me and one is to the right. I think I only took a photo of one screen at a time here to avoid potentially showing private information. I work with a lot of spreadsheets and definitely need multiple screens to deal with them.
DeleteI am just rather amazed that you go OUT after working in an office all day and coming home. And it's cold! And dark! That would be an immediate no for me. I need to get better about this.
ReplyDeleteMy version of a winter coat is finally turning off my AC, which I got to do last week! It's been delightful to not have to run it because it's been cooler here.
Oh, it was NOT fun to leave the house in the pitch black, I assure you, Stephany. It takes a lot of gumption and willpower.
DeleteHere's to no AC for you for a little bit!
