Most of the time I refuse to acknowledge that the holiday season has started until after American Thanksgiving. I cannot deal with Halloween and then straight to Christmas. The one exception is in food.
The seasonal Kisses are out and you better believe I snatched them up the SECOND I saw them.
The candy cane flavor is my favorite, but I also really like the cherry cordials. My husband likes the mint truffles (they taste like Peppermint Patties). I guess we'll see how long they last in our house.

What's your favorite seasonal candy?
We do not have those up here! Or if we do I've never seen them. Peppermint chocolate is my favourite, but I sure do like cherry as well. The US is a magical place for things like candy, breakfast cereal, and Oreos. So many choices! It's November 12, which means yesterday was Remembrance Day, which means IT'S THE HOLIDAY SEASON! Remember our Thanksgiving is a) not a huge deal and b) in October.
ReplyDeleteHey, I specified American Thanksgiving in my post. Canada does it right - we have Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all crammed together and your way is more humane. And it is holiday season, here, too, just not the CHRISTMAS holiday.
DeleteI am partial to the Ghirardelli peppermint bark, but I like dark chocolate. I am not a huge fan of milk or white, although I can eat them in a pinch. Your title cracked me up, as I was not really sure what I was going to get when I opened this post!
ReplyDeleteHa. I didn't realize how misleading the title was. I'm not changing it now.
DeleteWell, I'm not allowed to eat candy (since I'm a recovering sugarholic.) But my daughter would LOVE those candy cane kisses! I may have to get some for her.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with the candy cane flavor. It's the best part of a candy cane without having to eat a whole candy cane.
DeleteI don't think they make/sell any of these in Canada except Candy Cane.
ReplyDeleteI'm not big into holiday chocolate, but do love a good Lindt a few times over the season. My husband LOATHES peppermint and hates chocolate + mint, so I don't eat many things with that combo, but Silk makes a divine coffee creamer that is peppermint mocha and I am counting down the days until I see it in stores! I look every single time I'm at the store.
I make homemade PB balls coated with chocolate and that's one of my favourite treats and I only make them at Christmas. I also like the saltine toffee bark. Another thing I only make at Christmas though the last few years my neighbour has been making some and gifting it to us, so I stopped making it which is very convenient because I don't like making it...I just like eating it :)
I don't like mint with or without chocolate, so I'm on your husband's side.
DeleteI also make homemade peanut butter balls (I call them buckeyes) and I have already purchased a giant bag of chocolate chips and two huge jars of peanut butter to get ready!
Team candy cane kisses here! I'm speculating how long a bag would last if you and I had access to it. Not long, that's for sure. I can also get behind the cherry cordial, and I'm less interested in the mint ones - I'm not saying I wouldn't eat them, just that it would be after eating the candy cane and cherry cordial ones so I'd be pretty full at that point.
ReplyDeleteYES! We are Hershey Kisses twins!
DeleteI do like a Mars bar, but I think you have Mars that are not remotely the same thing. In general, I am a sucker for chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI have not experimented much with Canadian chocolate. I'm much too impressed by your chips. All-Dressed FTW!
DeleteWait you don't have Ketchup OR All Dressed chips in America? Or Mars bars??!!!
DeleteWay back in the day, about a hundred years ago, I used to be ALL ABOUT the Cadbury Creme Eggs. That was when they were huge, almost the size of a real egg. And I could eat that whole thing! Now, even the thought of all that vanilla creme sets my teeth on edge and hurts my stomach. What was I thinking? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteNow, I make my own Christmas Toffee Bark, like what Elisabeth mentioned, above. But I make variations using not just saltines as the base, but mini pretzels and even ruffled potato chips. SO GOOD. I make it and give it away in cute little tin buckets to my friends, family, and a couple of neighbours, too.
The Cadbury Creme eggs are gross now, Nance. They are NOTHING like they used to be. I bought one last year and could not finish it. The "chocolate" is like plastic.
DeleteWell, that is a Sad. I expect so much more from Cadbury. Thanks for the heads up. It wasn't likely I'd have tried them again, but you never know when Nostalgia might take hold.
DeleteThe candy cane kisses top my list. I don't keep candy in the house, because I'll eat it - but I do grab bags of those for little dishes when entertaining. I'm with you - I don't usually start the Christmas celebrating until after Thanksgiving. The little girls would like to get Christmas music going after Halloween. I'm firm on my Too early stance.
ReplyDeleteWe usually have candy in the house, but because I don't like much chocolate candy, it's usually stuff my husband likes and I won't touch. This is a special time of year because we'll fight over the candy!
DeleteAs Thanksgiving is in October here, in Canada, Christmas always comes early up here even for us. Never mind there's a whole month in between. And no chocolate in our house till just before Christmas otherwise it'll be eaten in a matter of days. Even candy canes adorning the Christmas tree.
ReplyDeleteOh, ha. I like the way candy canes look on the tree, but I always end up throwing them out because we won't eat them. I don't like waste, so we're not buying candy canes this year. It's just me and my husband, so we do a good job of pacing ourselves with the candy.
DeleteI am a purist and do not like the flavored hershey's kisses! Just give me the plain chocolate ones, please and thank you. I used to wait until 12/1 to decorate for Christmas. Then in 2020 I had a scheduled c-section for 12/3 so I wanted the tree up before that and I had a good RA day in mid-Nov so that's when the tree went up. And then I realized how much I loved the glow of the tree for a longer period of time. So now mid-Nov is when the tree goes up in our house. I still adore Thanksgiving and would say it's prob my fave holiday because there are NO GIFTS!!
ReplyDeleteI am grossed out by just plain chocolate Kisses. I don't like chocolate without a flavor pairing. You can have the plain ones, friend, and I'll eat the seasonal ones.
DeleteWe generally wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate and that's reasonable to me. We keep it up pretty late into January, though, and I know some people take it down in late December.
I can't do most chocolate anymore after that WaPo article a few years ago (don't Google it and ruin things for yourself!). But Almond Roca despite its chocolate coating is a favorite Christmas treat--I'll give it to a lot of people in my family and then hang around hoping they'll share it with me. lol I eat the Chocolove brand sometimes, but I don't think they have any holiday flavors--boo.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I didn't get around to making Nance's toffee last year, but plan to this year!
I refuse to let this world ruin this vice, Maya. I'm choosing to remain ignorant on this topic!
DeleteCandy corn for sure (though I always get a lot of ridicule for that). As far as Christmas goes, I'm less about candy and more about cookies. Homemade usually. I would certainly make an exception for Cherry Cordial Kisses; I didn't even know those existed!
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves candy corn (I do not), but finding a gluten free version that meets his approval has proven to be challenging. The cherry cordial Kisses are good!
DeleteI was not aware there are seasonal kisses.... But then we dont get them here so how would I know. But I would love to try them all.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow. I always think Europeans will think our chocolate is gross. LOL. Not sure you'd love them as much as I do.
DeleteNot much in the way of Christmas candy here - unless it's my almond bark or peanut butter fudge and even then, most of it goes out the door. We do more Christmas cookies than anything.
ReplyDeleteWe do candy AND cookies. Why choose?!
DeleteI am a big fan of the small Cadbury eggs that are covered in the hard shell. There is something addictive in the candy shell. So much so, that I only buy a small bag or two total as I could seriously eat my weight in them and down a whole large bag in minutes!
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves those, too. I'm not a fan of just chocolate, so they're not my jam, but I'm happy everyone else loves them so much.
DeleteWe don't have those here. I think you have a lot more in the holiday candy range than us. I won't buy candy because G eats mindlessly when he's stressed or bored so I try not to have anything in the house.
ReplyDeleteWe're pretty good at moderating ourselves on chocolate, so it's not a big problem here. We've had those bags for two weeks already and they haven't been opened.
DeleteI don't think I really like any Christmas candy, except I make my mom's fudge, or I would happy eat toffee/bark if someone made it for me, but I'm unlikely to make it for myself. Do holiday colored peanut m&m's count? I love peanut m&m's.
ReplyDeleteYum. Peanut M&Ms are the best!
Deletewait, what's the difference between candy cane and mint truffle? It seems like they would be the same flavor profile? I have to admit that I'm not a fan of Hersey kisses - the chocolate is just kind of "meh." But I'm with Tierney that the Cadbury mini eggs are seriously addictive.
ReplyDeleteMy Husband grew up with Fannie Mae candy and his sister sends us a box of mint meltaways every Christmas. I don't know if we actually like them or just eat them for the sake of tradition. The kids like them. Sugar Fiends.
The candy cane kisses are white chocolate with flecks of candy canes in it. The mint truffle are dark chocolate filled with a glob of toothpastey grossness (I do not care for mint truffle, so take my explanation with a grain of salt). LOL.
DeleteMy sister-in-law makes fudge and caramels for Christmas. I can't think of anything yummier! My husband loves cherry cordials, but I do not.
ReplyDeleteThis is all making me hungry. I want fudge and caramels and peanut M&Ms and all the Christmas goodies!
DeleteI am more of a cookie person and I like Lebkuchen a lot. Lucky me they sell the typical German style Lebkuchen at Trader Joe's.
ReplyDeleteI am not familiar with Lebkuchen, so I just googled it. Sounds delicious to me!
DeleteI don't love regular Hershey's kisses, but the candy cane ones are amazing. We don't do a ton of holiday chocolate, more baking - the salted toffee pretzel bark is a huge hit and I have to make many pans for our house, my parents' house and for Matt to take to work. I also love shortbread - I usually make regular, toffee, chai, chocolate dipped and lemon.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for regular Kisses, either. Oh, man, now I want some of your shortbread!!!
