Happy National Rescue Dog Day!

Let's take a few minutes today to acknowledge National Rescue Dog Day and, in particular, to celebrate the one and only Hannah the Dog.

Mood #1: Pensive ennui

Mood #2: Goofy

Mood #3: Acquisitive and unwilling to share

Mood #4: Suspicious, but brave enough to check things out

Mood #5: Over It

Mood #6: Vicious

Mood #7: Hot

Mood #8: Ticked off

Mood #9: Barely tolerant

Mood #10: Exhausted

Here's to all the generic brown dogs out there. Thanks for tolerating your humans, Hannah!

****************

Your assignment: Go pet a rescue dog today and tell me all about it. And, if there are no rescue dogs near, just send out good vibes to all those dogs currently in shelters and foster care waiting for their family to discover them.

  2. Awww Hannah! Loved this, Engie. You know what I would love, and I bet others would too - the story of how Hannah came into your life. You probably have it on the blog somewhere in the archives, but I would absolutely love to hear the story!

    1. Oh, that's a great idea. Maybe I'll do a little refresher post on how Zelda and Hannah came into our lives.

  3. A Hannah post! This wins the internet today. Love your captions, Engie! (I think the "vicious" one is mislabelled though! It seems more like a "look at my healthy teeth that my family brushes every day" photo.)

    1. She's never really vicious. We just joke that she wants to both love and murder sticks.

  4. HANNAH! It's her special day!!! A featured blog post is the perfect way to celebrate her. I agree with Maya- she just likes to show off her pretty teeth. I'm having a fantasy of rushing out to a shelter and bringing home a dog- I'm picturing how surprised my family would be (er, especially my husband). Instead I'll just send them good vibes and pet all dogs I encounter today.

    1. Ha ha. It's HARD to find dogs that get along with cats. That's the sticking point of just getting running to the shelter!

  5. Mood #1 is a glamour shot for sure. I love it. And I love that you chose to highlight her today, even though you do a great job of extolling her virtues here often.

My granddog Zydrunas is a rescued brown dog. (You can read his story here.) For my birthday and Mother's Day, Rick got me a digital photo frame, and I have as many photos of Z as I do of Theo, my grandson. Good dogs are a treasure and a delight.

    1. Mood #1 is how Hannah spends 75% of her day. LOL.

Generic brown dogs are definitely the way to go! Unless you want a generic black dog. Or a generic white dog. You know! Whatever best matches your furniture!

    1. She does love sticks so much. Now that all the sticks have been revealed after a snowy winter, she's living her best life.

  7. The many moods of Hanna.

We have a rescue cat. She will have to suffice.

  11. I will pet the local rescue dogs if I see them today. Some neighbors have a very cute new rescue, just 5 months old!

Not a rescue, but I had a 'Chloe the Keeshond' sighting yesterday, which always makes me happy. Yesterday was 1 year since we lost our rescue Keeshond Mulder, so it seemed fitting to me.

  13. Hannah clearly contains multitudes! Funnily the word ennui came up during our date night on Saturday night when we were discussing what people might mean when they say "the 7 year itch". Phil was unfamiliar w/ the word ennui. He can be a grammer snob since his mom was an english teacher and he had a far better education that I did in my teeny tiny 500 person town (he will often gently tell me I'm pronouncing something wrong - and it happens more often than I'd like but is because I only encountered those words from reading and did not hear them "out in the wild".) So I was kind of tickled to be like - oh, let me explain ennui to you!!! We sure know how to have fun on a date nights, don't we!

    1. Oh, ha! We use ennui to describe the dog and cat's feelings all the time. It never occurred to me that it was a rare word.

I say words incorrectly all the time because I never heard them and only read them - I think that's fine!!

  14. Yay for rescue doggies! Someone in our house got a lot of loving, a lot of walkies, and a lot of treats today - so it was just like any other day for her;-)

    1. Yes, to be honest, I wasn't home all day, so I don't know how Hannah really celebrated, but I assume it was similar to Doggo's day!

  15. SOOOOO soooo cute! She's such a pretty dog! Charlie isn't a rescue (let's just be grateful my husband figured out how to buy a dog in the first place, since that's definitely not "his thing"....). In our case, with my husband being on the fence about a dog, I'm not sure a rescue would have been the best bet for us anyway, just because I think it was important to him that he could pick the specific breed (had to be NON-SHEDDING for him to even consider) and he wanted to be more guaranteed of the exact size, temperament, etc. This was a Very Big Step for him to agree to a dog. I feel sort of like it sounds bad to say that, since I know there are so many awesome dogs out there that need rescuing! I think the whole rescue dog thing is amazing and I'm so glad you and Hannah found either that way!! (Of course, Ivan is now absolutely smitten with Charlie and greets him before he even says hi to me when he gets home and snuggles with him in our bed.... LOL LOL)

    1. Oh, ha! Dogs aren't for every family and rescue dogs aren't for every family, either. You just give the pets you have the best home you can and hope that all the other pets get to be so lucky. Maybe someday Ivan will even realize that the shedding isn't a dealbreaker for him and it will open up other dog breeds as options!

  18. All the love and pets (shared by you, on my behalf, please, until I can meet her in person) to Hannah on rescue dog day and EVERY day! Ennui is probably her best expression - the disdain fairly oozes out of her. ;)
