1. Being healthy and happy - We haven't had the best year in terms of injuries. I had a foot injury that has sidelined me for a bunch of the year and Dr. BB broke his collarbone. My mental health has been a moving target, but that seems to have settled down a little bit. I'm pretty sure I passed a kidney stone last week and I spent a lot of time with a heating pad on my left kidney. I'm grateful that right now, this holiday, we are all fine and healthy and together.
2. The introduction of Hannah the Dog into our little family - I can't even remember how we got through a day without our little mutt. She's smart, brave, funny, kind, quiet, cuddly, and just everything I could ever want from a canine companion.
3. Zelda's increasing sassiness - After Zelda's bladder stone surgery, she was a hot mess. She still is, actually. Her incision just won't heal, so she's wearing this undignified cone most of the time. She sort of hates her life. But she also wasn't her kitty self for a long time. She wouldn't eat, she wouldn't drink, and she sort of slept all the time and resented anyone who touched her. But she has recently turned a corner. Her incision is still a mess, but she's back to meowing at us, demanding pets, and sort of mock-fighting the dog. I'm so happy to have my baby girl back in fighting force, although I wish I didn't have to put that cone on her all the time.
4. The love and affection of our nieces and nephews - We got a postcard from one of our nieces the other day. Her mom said she just wanted us to know that she loved us. Awww.
5.Having our holiday at home - Because Zelda is so sick and we didn't make arrangements ahead of time for someone to watch Hannah, we're actually STAYING HOME for this holiday. I can't even tell you how thrilling it is. After years of fighting about splitting time, it didn't even really take much convincing for Dr. BB to just agree that staying home was right for us. Woo hoo!
BONUS:
Eggnog shakes from McDonald's. They don't really taste like eggnog, but they are definitely a holidays-are-here kind of treat for me.
Happy Thanksgiving from our home to yours!
