Hey, have I mentioned here that I've been sick? (Yes, I know. Only a million billion times.) Well, I have been. And one thing that is pretty much true about me when I'm sick is that I will drink about a gallon of hot tea every day.
I'm a big fan of this green tea*, but I'll drink herbal tea, black tea, or hot water with lemon in it if I have to. But the constant in whatever tea I'm drinking is that I pour in an almost equivalent amount of honey to water. This is an exaggeration, but only a slight one. Very heaping tablespoons are the norm.
So I ask you to think about how much honey your household consumes. Well, we go through about five pounds every six weeks. I bought fifteen pounds of honey at the beginning of December at the Farmers Market, thinking it would get us through the winter, but then we had to buy another five at the grocery store before I could go to my main source last weekend.
We don't just use it in tea, but for almost every purpose in which sugar might be used. Cookies? Honey. Plain yogurt? Honey. Apple crisp? Honey. (Although brown sugar is actually the right answer for the last one - lesson learned the hard way.)
The last time we visited, my mother-in-law mentioned that she had the same honey bear in her cabinet that she had when Dr. BB left for college. I almost laughed myself silly. Tell me, my friends, is your honey consumption as rabid as ours?
*As always, not an affiliate link. I buy this at the grocery stuff every damn week and pay for it with my own money. Or Dr. BB pays for it with his money.
