Any guesses where I spent yesterday evening?
The Detroit Tigers are Michigan's professional baseball team, in case you were confused. |
I want to lie and tell you that I'm too cool for this place, but I not so secretly love it. I was bouncing around to Christmas carols, trying to find the perfect ornament to bring home to keep until Christmas Eve when I will allow the boy to open it and put it on our tree, and driving my mother crazy by asking her ridiculous questions she could hardly be expected to know the answers to (but why does Santa wear a belt buckle like that when you know it's gotta dig into his belly? why does that nutcracker have a bear head? why doesn't that angel have a nose?).
I want to lie and tell you that I found the Michigan-themed trees to be kitschy and ridiculous, but I didn't think that at all. I found myself wanting a giant ornament in the shape of Michigan and a pair of Michigan mittens with a map of the lower peninsula on one mitten and the upper peninsula on the other. I wanted a deck of playing cards that featured a different Great Lakes lighthouse on each card. I wanted to buy Michigan State, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Redwings tinsel for our tree.
Yes, it's ridiculous. But, if you stop to think about it, what is there in life that's worth doing isn't ridiculous?
It's not my home anymore, but it'll always be where I came from.
Meanwhile, this happened over the weekend, too. Maybe someday I'll tell the story. But in the meantime, don't try to call or text me. I have no phone!

No phone? But what will I do if I need to laugh hysterically at a horribly sad personal problem I am going through?!
