Bestest Friend and I are in the middle of a blog project. Each day of
the month we will post a picture on a pre-determined theme and write a
little something about it. The theme for the thirteenth day of each month is "Happy."
****************************
It was a rough day. There was a phone call from my mother with some bad news. It rained all day, leading to me having to put in earplugs in a futile attempt to block out the noise on top of noise on top of noise in my office. There was a last minute trip to the grocery store in which we still failed to pick up a key ingredient (damn it all, we just substituted Dijon mustard for yellow mustard in the recipe we're making and I know it's going to bug me).
But the rain led to some nice moments, too. As we were walking out the door of our office building at school, the boy put his arm around me and shared his umbrella. As we were dashing through the rain, attempting to get our groceries in the trunk of the car before they were nothing more than sodden vestiges, we started singing Rock the Boat (don't rock the boat, baby) in a chorus. Just because we could.
This is not going to go in my memory book as one of the best days ever, but it will go down as the day we had a five-minute discussion on the best place to put the wet umbrella when we got home. On the tile floor? No, the cat will get curious and then there will be tiny Zelda claw holes throughout it. On the sheltered balcony? No, it won't get any more wet, but it might blow away. Hanging on the rod in the shower? Absolutely. That's exactly where an umbrella goes.
