The old saw in every state where I’ve lived has been “there
are two seasons here – winter and construction season” and even though it’s so
overused that it just gets an eye roll from me, it’s also kind of true. Our
neighborhood is now cut off from downtown because of construction at a major
intersection, so for us to get to the downtown areas and businesses (including the
university), we have to drive a couple of miles out in one direction or
another.
While this isn’t the biggest inconvenience in the world, it
IS a nuisance. It’s doubling our commute time to
work and we put off doing downtown errands until we can’t possibly wait anymore.
In addition, there is also construction in our neighborhood, tearing up the
roads and sidewalks. I know that there’s construction every year when the weather
turns nice, but this year it seems to be out of control. If anyone wants to learn the functions of all
the huge pieces of construction equipment, come visit us!
