Bestest Friend and I are in the middle of a blog project. Each day of
the month we will post a picture on a pre-determined theme and write a
little something about it. The theme for the seventeenth day of each
month is "Bedtime."

I teach a lot of evening classes, so it’s not unusual for me to get home close to eleven at night. On those days, by the time I get home, do the nighttime chores, brush my teeth, and unwind a bit, it’s often after midnight. But on the rare days when I am home in the evenings and there are no classes, events, or other job responsibilities, I like to get to bed early. And I know all you folks with 8-5 jobs are rolling your eyes at me right now, but getting to bed by 10:30 is a luxury for me. Last night, I started the evening routine at a quarter to ten and as I slipped into bed, I was incredibly content.
And when I woke up this morning, almost nine hours later, all I could think about was how much I love the freedom that comes with my summer schedule. When school starts up again and I have to worry about office hours, grading, and everything else that comes with the cult of busy in which we academics surround ourselves, I will know that next summer will bring me glorious days of freedom like this.

I'm loving summer right now -- can you imagine me, with one leg, on the snow and ice? I still go to bed crazy early, though. I'm weird like that.
