2026 F.I.G. Collective - Week Three

Elisabeth challenged us all to find gratitude in February, so she created the Finding Joy in Gratitude Collective. Here are my FIGs for last week.

Sunday, February 15
We went to Dave & Buster's with my BIL, SIL, nephew, and nephew's girlfriend. The food was surprisingly good and there was an oversized Pac-man game I was kind of obsessed with. I'm so grateful we were able to spend time with all of them and have so much fun.

Monday, February 16
CBBC readers! It's so fun to see everyone's comments about the book.

Tuesday, February 17
My friend T was doing a talk at my work today and it was fun to go and listen to her. And then go to her fitness class later that day. It felt like such a treat to get to spend so much time with her!

Wednesday, February 18
There was a real mystery at work today. A student had applied for graduation. One degree audit said they had 120.5 credits (enough for graduation) and another degree audit said 118.5 credits (not enough for graduation). I was so grateful to have a colleague who I could sit down with and go over every single class and credit until we figured out the mystery. Also, it was very satisfying when we found the answer!

Thursday, February 19
One of my favorite days of the semester is Career Fair day. I always volunteer to help by checking in students or employers or putting up or taking down all the tables and chairs. I am so thankful that we have this great opportunity for our students to start planning ahead for their future endeavors.

Friday, February 20
The ice is melted on the river. The river has never iced over completely since I've lived here, but it does get a lot of ice on it. But this morning on our walk with Hannah I noticed that there was no ice. Winter is not over by a long shot, but this is a good sign of things to come. (Also, I'm so grateful that Hannah is feeling well enough to practice platforming on that rock. Yay for her.)

Saturday, February 21
I had a lunch and shopping date with Sarah today! I am so lucky that I live in an area with a high concentration of cool bloggers.

****************
When's the last time you had lunch with a friend? Walked by a body of water?

  1. Nice FIGS! Now that the snow is gone, Doggo had been able to jump up on rocks and tree stumps on our walks again, so it adds an extra level of fun to our walks. Our deep snow from January finally melted away in this week's false spring, but this morning it started snowing again, so that means more snow to play in.

    1. We have been getting flurries, but nothing sticking. I preferred the snow, to be honest. It was so much prettier.

  2. Yay for FIGS! I’m hopeful that the student had enough credits to graduate!
Yay for Cool Blogger meet ups too!
It was cold enough here that I had to cover my avocado tree to keep it from freezing (low 30s overnight) but later this week it’s going to get to 70, so really, the weather doesn’t know what it’s doing.

    1. That's such a wild temperature swing. It really messes up my whole world when there are big differences like that!

  3. I both had lunch with a friend and walked by a body of water in the past three days! And I will walk by a body of water again today. How fun to meet up with Sarah! I need some bloggers to come and live in Kelowna. It's so far from everyone!
Don't leave us hanging: can the student graduate?
People in Kelowna are hilarious, we had three days of "cold" weather and some snow - which melted later that same day, I might add - and you would not BELIEVE the gnashing of the teeth. OH MY GOD IT'S WINTER. When I say "cold" I mean overnight low of minus ten two nights, and daytime highs around minus 3 (Celcius, obv). PEOPLE THIS IS NOT COLD. Anyway, here we are, it's going to be lovely today and Rexie and I are heading out for walkies tout de suite, we will walk by the lake and visit the park bench for Lloyd Forest. "He wants you to know the park closes at 11."

    1. The student is 1.5 credits short, but if they take a second-half term course this semester, they'll still be able to graduate in May. *shrug* It happens a lot that seniors are short a credit or two.

I mean, -3C is still pretty cold, right? You have to dress for it!

  4. I love all your FIGS.
Again, I'm kinda bummed to not be a part of the book club this time; too many balls in the air this time. I'm happy Hannah is feeling well, and she looks like a supermodel on that big rock!

    1. No worries about missing CBBC this time around. There's always next time!

  5. Hey, I helped promote your career fair as CheeseGov had a booth there. I'm glad it was well-attended. Did the student have enough credits to graduate?

    1. Nope, the student is shy 1.5 credits. They can take another class this semester and still graduate in May if they want. Or else they can take a summer class. There are options.

  6. Hannah looks worthy of a statue JUST LIKE THAT.

I'd have a hard time deciding between those two tarts. Unless a lemon were offered, then I'd have ordered that, no problem.

I hope the student had the required credits for graduation!

    1. Hannah barely tolerates it when I take photos of her. I appreciate that she wasn't glaring at me.

There was a lemon creme tart on offer! And a key lime. It was a hard decision.

  7. Those desserts look AMAZING and I would have loved to be there with you two ladies. I am jealous of your proximity to so many bloggers!
I'm curious if the student had enough credits to graduate! I hope so!!!

    1. I am so lucky to have so many cool bloggers locally. I don't mean to brag about it - it's just luck - but it makes me happy.

  8. You do have a concentration of cool bloggers in your area!!!
I have a potential lunch with a friend scheduled for Wednesday. And, we have lots of canals and lakes near us. I'm always running and walking past bodies of water. It's nice!
Okay, I'm off to finish Age of Innocence!!!

    1. I don't know what it would be like to not have water surrounding me. I try to remember what it was like growing up, but I think it was just not awesome. Yay for canals and lakes and rivers and oceans!

  9. Did the student have enough credits?! Curious minds must know! I have not met up with a blogger OR walked on water in a long time! I need to remedy that! I don't know what the tart on the left is, but if that one on the right is pecan, I am all for it.

    1. The student is short credits, but can make it up in other ways. The one on the left was a chocolate creme pie and the one on the right was a bourbon pecan pie. Delicious!!

  10. I am just thinking that I don’t have lunch with friends, or at least the last time of the few times that I have was months ago. In fact I seldom have lunch out at all. Sue and I trend to do breakfast more often than lunch. I do coffee with both Sue and friends, however. I do think it’s lovely for folks to “do lunch” however.

    1. I rarely go out for lunch, either, that's why this was such a treat!

  11. I had lunch with a friend the Saturday before last, and later we walked on the beach, which is on the Gulf of Mexico, so I hit both the same day! It was an excellent day.

  12. Haven't had lunch with friends in a while, thinking I'm going to send out an email right now. I haven't walked on the river trail for a while either. I did walk by the ocean in San Francisco not quite a month ago though. We still have so much snow. I did kind of like that our last dump covered over all the gross parts.

    1. Yeah, I wish the snow were back to cover how yucky the landscape looks. Oh, well. I think any snow we get from here on out will be short-lived.

  13. I had lunch with a friend this past weekend as I was hosting an out-of-town friend! I also had lunch with a former coworker last Thursday. So I had a very social week!

Yay for the ice melting and for time with Sarah!

    1. It does feel like bragging to say our snow is gone when so much of the country is getting buried. Oh, well. We'll get ours again soon, I'm sure.
