Do you remember when Anne and I had an adventure in which we painted ceramics? I got the call that they were out of the kiln just as I was diagnosed with COVID, so I wasn't able to pick them up until last weekend.
Before:
After:
There's definite room for improvement, but I'm pretty pleased with them.

Have you ever painted ceramics like this?
Oh I love those places! The glazing makes such a remarkable difference! Too bad it was after Halloween but there is always next year!
ReplyDeleteIn their defense, it was ready by Halloween, but I had COVID, so it took me WEEKS to go back and pick it up. I packed it away with our Halloween stuff and next year I'll use it as a centerpiece on the dining room table with a candle in it for our meals during October.
DeleteNicely done! I've never gone to those places, but I wouldn't say no if asked to.
ReplyDeleteIt was oddly soothing! I'm not much of an artistic lady, but I enjoyed doing it. Now that I know you have do A LOT of layers to get complete coverage, I'll do a better job next time.
DeleteThese are awesome! I haven't been to a ceramics place in a long time. We used to go when the kids were little. My son recently did this with some friends, and he painted a little sculpture of two cats to look like our cats, and he keeps it with him at school.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I've ever done this before. Do kids get to do this kind of thing a lot?!
DeleteBeing make and old, I certainly don’t remember, but good for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It was fun!
DeleteOh, that came out really neat! I haven't done ceramics, but I'd like to.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to do with friends. You can chat while you paint and it's sort of meditative and relaxing. I mean, as long as you're not a perfectionist (obviously I AM NOT).
DeleteI love your ceramic jack o lantern with a lid! You can put a candle in it! The glaze is gorgeous. I've never done anything like this - you did a beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteYES! I'm going to use it as a centerpiece on our table with a candle in it next October.
DeleteGives me a throwback to when my mom had her pottery studio. I made so many sparkly snowmen ahead of the holiday season. Pretty everyone who came to the house got roped in.
ReplyDeleteHa! I might go back and do a Christmas tree. But now you've got me thinking maybe a snowman would be fun.
DeleteAwesome! I took Eve and her friends to a place like this for one of her birthdays and they had a ton of fun and what they painted was quite impressive, I thought.
ReplyDeleteThe glaze hides a multitude of painting sins, doesn't it?
DeleteOh I've never seen that kind of place where you get to paint a finished ceramic piece, but I bet you had a great time. I'd made my pumpkin pink though... ;-)
ReplyDeleteHa. I am not a pink fan, so it would be out of place in my house!
DeleteI have never done a ceramics painting, but did do one of those corks and canvas deals, where you have wine and paint, which was actually really fun. I still have the painting!
ReplyDeleteI am always irritated by the wine and paint places because I don't want to drink and I feel like I would bring the vibe down if I refused the drink!
DeleteI have not done ceramics at a store front place, but I belonged to an art club in high school called Into Clay. I made a duck that was hollow so it could be used as a planter on my mom’s kitchen table. TBH it was so cute. I glazed it white and there must’ve been an air pocket because the top of the head blew off in the final firing. Nothing a small straw hat wouldn’t fix.
ReplyDeleteYour pieces turned out so cute.
A SMALL STRAW HAT!! I love it so much.
DeleteSuper cute! Dorothy loves these kinds of places.
ReplyDeleteWas this kind of think around when we were children? I've never done it before and here everyone is telling me that they did when they were kids!
DeleteCute! When my son was much younger I took him to one of those places to make a gift for his dad (birthday? Father's day? Who remembers; not me) and I enjoyed it immensely. The child however, did not because he felt if he couldn't make it perfect it was a waste of time. Although, his father did not think it was a waste of time and his favorite plate is the one my son made that say's Dad. Now, I'm wondering if that place is still around.
ReplyDeleteOh, and by the way, the wine and paint places? No one cares if you don't drink. Honestly, you are too busy painting your piece to drink much anyway.
People care in Wisconsin, I assure you. It's a problem.
DeleteShared with my wife...she is obsessed.
ReplyDeleteObsessed with painting ceramics or obsessed with pumpkins? I can see it going either way, to be honest.
DeleteThis looks amazing. Amazing job. And it fits after the kiln.
ReplyDeleteIt does look pretty. The glaze on the top is especially gorgeous.
DeleteAww, I love this! We have a shop in town to paint ceramics like this. We originally planned to take our daughter there every year on her birthday...that lasted two years. But we hosted her birthday party there one year and she's gone to at least one other party there. I keep meaning to take her back as she's quite keen to go. Gah. I keep forgetting to make that a priority. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteThe firing process is AMAZING. I love how it looks once glazed; the transformation is impressive!
Ha ha. I like that we went as two grown ass adults and everyone in this thread is talking about their children doing it. Hey, we are who we are!
DeleteI have not, but that looks like a lot of fun, and is very cute!
ReplyDeleteIt was so much fun. And oddly meditative.
DeleteSo pretty! I love the purple!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I can't wait to use it next year and see how spooky it is with a candle in it.
DeleteWow! This is so, so cool! I loved it in its unglazed avatar, but it's just so impressive glazed. Are you going to do a whole festive series? Like Christmas, Easter, and all that?
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to do something for Christmas and that's probably going to be that!
DeleteI like it, but then again, I'm a sucker for anything purple.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Especially around Halloween!
DeleteWe have one of these places near me and my mom and I love it. It's such a peaceful activity! There's something so soothing about painting, I think.
ReplyDeleteIt is soothing. I have no actual skill, but it's fun to just take a break and focus on something.
DeleteThat pumpkin is so cute and will be great to have for future seasons! I haven't been to one of these places in a long time!! They are very fun!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I've been sleeping on these places - I'd never been before!
DeleteThat pumpkin is so cute. I love it. I think I forgot you took a class with Anne.... how fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun! And I'm pleased with the final products, too.
