D is for Dial

Our car needed some TLC so we took her to the dealership. This could have been the most boring chore ever except that this dealership had an associated museum attached to it. Now, I'm not at all a motorhead, but even I can appreciate that wonders that are Model A and Model T cars, not to mention the absolutely swoon-worthy Fairlanes.

They had some really awesome old-fashioned gasoline pumps.  Unfortunately, the sun was in the absolute worst place ever for getting pictures of them.  The one above was a fabulous bright orange Texaco pump.  Truly lovely.

All 1953 Fords had these commemorative steering wheels marking the company's 50th anniversary. I just assumed the blue oval was something that Ford always had, but clearly that is not the case.

Don't be surprised if more photos from this museum trip show up soon!

  1. I believe Ford has used the blue oval emblem since 1907 or so. The earliest Model A's had them. I think it might have looked to "old-timey" in the 50's and that's when they switched to the coat of arms logo.
