Cool Bloggers Walking Club, 10/27-10/31

We're all trying to get 10 minutes of walking done every day with Elisabeth's Cool Blogger's Walking Club.

Sunday, October 27
Nothing, sadly. I was sick.

First time out of the house in days. Hannah was not in for a photo op. LOL.

Monday, October 28

And that's a wrap on CBWC. How did you do getting your ten minutes a day in?

  1. I love that Hannah gets you out and about, but I do wonder how many of the walks feel like a slog (like the cold and blustery one you mention). I would like an average star rating for your walks! :)

    1. Ha! The vast majority of walks are 5/5 for both of us! But cold and rainy is my weakness - I just get so grumpy about it. Snow is fun and pretty! You can dress for the cold! But cold and rain - ugh. I love my time with her, I really do.

  2. I agree- those beautiful, balmy fall days are over! I have a feeling Charlie will be doing more and more of the "short loop" vs the "long loop" in the coming days, haha! I think it's fine though. Actually, in the last week I had not one but TWO "dog experts" (his trainer and his veterinarian) comment on walk length. By happenstance, I mentioned to them both at different times that I usually take him on an almost 30 minute walk in the morning and also at night. They both actually kind of gasped and were like, "Oh he doesn't need such long walks! He's pretty small (he's 22 lbs) and not a super hyper high energy breed (eg a husky!) A 10 minute walk couple times a day is more than fine." (Of course I don't think it's "bad", either, to do longer ones- it's not like I have to drag him or he gets over tired or anything!) They both seemed to indicate though that doing more mental stimulation is best, anyway. But that's actually the harder one for me, lol. I sometimes get lazy about prepping things like frozen lick mats, Kongs, feeder puzzles, or doing enough "training sessions", etc, which are all things that stimulate his mind. It did help ease my mind, however, that if it's really crummy weather, I don't HAVE to take him on such long walks though. Just enough to do his business and get back is sufficient sometimes. (We were not fans of the Halloween night walk either! The wind was freaking him out I think! He got all startled acting when the big gusts would blow.)

    1. Eh, I don't know. If you let your dog explore and sniff on walks, it's mental stimulation. Hannah is exhausted after her walks (also, she's a lazy dog so maybe that doesn't say much). Yes, we do a bit of training and the like, but dogs shouldn't need constant mental stimulation. They need to learn to be bored. LOL. Just like children.

Yeah, the wind was crazy. Hannah didn't love it, either. I can't imagine how it hurts their eyes and ears!

    2. I read that sniffing tires them out more than a long walk. I used to take Mulder out for about 45 minutes to an hour every morning, but he didn't have an evening walk. I generally wanted to walk though, and didn't let him sniff as much as he would have liked. Also he was always putting everything into his mouth like a toddler, so it was best to keep him moving.

  3. Those are lots of pretty good walks, especially since you are still recovering. We've had some really windy days here, but rain keeps passing us by or coming at night in a brief burst. I had to miss a couple of days, thanks to migraine, but other than that, walking has been great--my usual routine. Sadly, Ohio's fall colour peaked about 10 days ago, and now the high winds have blown a lot of leaves down. But it's still largely sunny, and I'll take it!

    1. I think we're on a similar timeline. We're definitely past peak and we had a few crazy windy days that knocked down all the leaves.

  4. Glad you're feeling better! I'm sure Hannah carried on your walking streak in your absence.
Yeah, that's the problem with the midwest- a beautiful turns into a gray winter. Get out your SAD lamp!!!

    1. You know what, Jenny? My SAD lamp never got put away this year. I've been using it year-round. I don't know what that says, but it can't be good.

  5. Yeah for getting back outside.

I have been doing pretty good and only missed one day. But I have kept it going and just cam back from a 8km walk. It feels good.

    1. Being outside is really a lovely balm for our mental health, isn't it?

  7. The blue photo in the dark is funny. I did not walk every day. I ran every other day - mostly, and I walked with my tots sometimes. The zoo. Checking out Halloween decor. I walk a ton inside - up and down the stairs at nap time, for instance. ;)

    1. Poor Hannah rarely sees sunshine on her walks. LOL. So I have a lot of photos of voids.

I walk so much inside! I love the excuse to get outdoors, though.

  8. I did good for a week and I just did not record it the rest of the time. I do plenty of walking around each day but almost never do anything that would be considered a walk.

    1. If I didn't have a dog, I'm not sure I would, either. Having a dog really solves (and creates) a lot of problems for me.

  9. I'm glad you're recovered enough to be out walking again! That picture with the big red tree is beautiful.

    1. I was trying to get Hannah to appreciate the red tree - she obviously did not.

  10. I'm glad your back out and walking after being sick. I managed to get it done this time. I didn't have an injury to derail me.

  11. I am so sorry you were sick but I am hoping you're feeling much, much better. You had some gorgeous fall weather last week!
I got most of my 10 min in because I run a lot these days LOL the challenge was my rest day.

    1. It can be a real challenge when you don't have another reason to be outside. Thank goodness for Hannah - she always gets me out there!

  12. Well you rocked this challenge. I did not even track how poorly I did because it would make make me feel worse about myself... It still is mystifying that it's hard for me to fit in a 10 minute walk but I guess that says a lot about my work/life balance during the week... Sob.

    1. Ten minutes can be hard! There's also time on either side (getting shoes/coats on and off). I get it, I really do!
