In previous iterations of voting, I've had to say something like "the vote was really close" in order to console folks whose first place was not chosen. Well, most of you chose the winner as your first place, so I don't think it will be too shocking for anyone to learn that our next book club read will be The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton.
This book is in the public domain, so you can find it on The Internet Archive. My local library had about ten different editions with a copy or two of each, so if you're a library user, you'll probably be able to get it that way, too.

Thanks once again to all who voted! Who's in for this round of CBBC?

Time to go to the library! Thanks for the graphs- the distribution of votes was interesting! I'm trying to read a classic each month this year- this gives ne February! I read Wuthering Heights for January. Thank goodness that's over with.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like Wuthering Heights either!
DeleteWuthering Heights is one of the most miserable pieces of literature I've ever read. I first tackled it as a teen in high school. I decided to revisit it as an adult to see if it was better than I remembered. IT WAS WORSE.
Delete*slowly crosses off Wuthering Heights from any future CBBC votes*
DeleteCodex: I won't reread it but would like to pop in from time to time unless that's against the "rules"?
ReplyDeleteWe welcome all visitors!
DeleteI'm (re)reading it right now but I won't be able to participate much, unfortunately. But it is a wonderful book! I'll be with the CBBC in spirit!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever get a chance to stop by, we'll appreciate it! Otherwise, have a great vaca!
DeleteOoh! I'm excited! I wonder if I might even have my old copy of this book. I'm definitely due for a reread- I probably read it 30 years ago. I think this will be a book that most people will like.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea so many people had already read this book!
DeleteI am in! I have never read this book and I am looking forward to reading with all you cool bloggers. (This is Dulcie. I don’t blog but I’m a little bit cool anyway.)
ReplyDeleteDulcie, you're VERY cool. I can't wait to get started and hear what everyone thinks about it.
DeletePerfect timing! I’m going to a bookstore with Allison today (!!!) I just checked my bookshelf to see if I had it and discovered that I had 2 copies of Walden. WTF? (Ted said he had to read it in college, and the other looks like it belonged to my dad…so I guess I’ll keep that one and put Ted’s in a LFL.
ReplyDeleteAllison - Bibliomama? WHAT? I'm so jealous. Everyone goes to San Francisco, don't they?
DeleteExciting! Oddly my library only had ebooks available - there is a wait for the physical copies! I'm looking forward to checking this out since Nance spoke so highly of it!
ReplyDeleteNo physical copies?! Crazy. My library didn't have any ebooks, but it looks like it's thirty-eight cents (!) on Kindle, so I guess I could order it as an ebook, too?
DeleteYay! I do like Wharton, and this book is a favourite. I hope others like it as well. I'm very in!
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel ever powerful, Nance!
DeletePerfect! When I mentioned to my daughter what title I was hoping to be reading she said she had a copy of the book and passed it on to me. I'm ready to go!
ReplyDeleteLook at you. You're so on the ball.
DeleteI'm here for this!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait!
DeleteI've gone ahead and ordered it from my library!!!
ReplyDeleteYayayayay! I hope everyone likes it.
DeleteI'm in!
ReplyDeleteWoot! It's going to be fun.
DeleteYeah. I'm gonna try to read it. I'm supposed to be reading Wild Dark Shore or whatever for my book club but I've not been able to get my hands on a copy. I'm no great at juggling multiple books, but I hope to. Maybe one can be an audio book.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'd love it if someone listened to an audiobook. It would be good to know how/if that changes things.
DeleteI've got it on hold at my library. It's available, though, I just need to pick it up.
ReplyDeleteWhat's with that cover on that book? Totally the wrong time period. These books in the public domain - publisher put them out and slap pictures on the cover "Oh this looks like an old time-y person, that'll do." (Like the one version of Anne of Green Gables with a BLONDE on the cover.)
ReplyDeleteOne of the prompts for the Classic novel reading challenge I'm doing is "A book by Edith Wharton" - CHECK!!!
I am going to stop by the library today! I am going to try.
ReplyDeleteI borrowed the book and I am determined to participate fully this time (wish me luck! ;)).
