In previous iterations of voting, I've had to say something like "the vote was really close" in order to console folks whose first place was not chosen. Well, most of you chose the winner as your first place, so I don't think it will be too shocking for anyone to learn that our next book club read will be The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton.
This book is in the public domain, so you can find it on The Internet Archive. My local library had about ten different editions with a copy or two of each, so if you're a library user, you'll probably be able to get it that way, too.

DeleteWuthering Heights is one of the most miserable pieces of literature I've ever read. I first tackled it as a teen in high school. I decided to revisit it as an adult to see if it was better than I remembered. IT WAS WORSE.

DeleteOoh! I'm excited! I wonder if I might even have my old copy of this book. I'm definitely due for a reread- I probably read it 30 years ago. I think this will be a book that most people will like.

DeletePerfect timing! I’m going to a bookstore with Allison today (!!!) I just checked my bookshelf to see if I had it and discovered that I had 2 copies of Walden. WTF? (Ted said he had to read it in college, and the other looks like it belonged to my dad…so I guess I’ll keep that one and put Ted’s in a LFL.

DeleteExciting! Oddly my library only had ebooks available - there is a wait for the physical copies! I'm looking forward to checking this out since Nance spoke so highly of it!
ReplyDeleteNo physical copies?! Crazy. My library didn't have any ebooks, but it looks like it's thirty-eight cents (!) on Kindle, so I guess I could order it as an ebook, too?

DeleteYeah. I'm gonna try to read it. I'm supposed to be reading Wild Dark Shore or whatever for my book club but I've not been able to get my hands on a copy. I'm no great at juggling multiple books, but I hope to. Maybe one can be an audio book.

ReplyDeleteWhat's with that cover on that book? Totally the wrong time period. These books in the public domain - publisher put them out and slap pictures on the cover "Oh this looks like an old time-y person, that'll do." (Like the one version of Anne of Green Gables with a BLONDE on the cover.)
