6.14 Reach - Dress for Success

Bestest Friend and I are in the middle of a blog project. Each day of the month we will post a picture on a pre-determined theme and write a little something about it. The theme for the fourteenth day of each month is "Reach."
****************************
"Are you really going to wear that to school?  Don't you feel like a caricature of yourself?"

Those were the first words my husband spoke to me this morning.
Maybe it's a bit of a stretch that what I'm wearing is actually professional, but in a department where our chair wears jeans every day and our comparative guy strolls into the classroom wearing the same black hoodie every day, I felt this was totally fine to wear into the office, especially considering I wasn't actually teaching a class today.  Eh.  No one else said anything to me today, so I think it was probably acceptable.

Dress: From Nooworks ($118)

Cardigan: From Salaam ($75)

Leggings (which I wear almost exclusively as tights, of course, because leggings are not pants): Gift from The Angry Taoist - Betsey Johnson, although I don't think this particular pattern is available anymore.

Boots: Cole Haan from a million years ago.  ($200?  $300? Who knows? I've had them for about  a decade and I wear them two or three times a week, so I think the cost per wear is cents.) I've tried to find equivalent boots with no extraneous buckles, stitching, zippers, or other accoutrements, but even Cole Haan has gotten on board with the obnoxious trend of adding unnecessary details to their shoes so it's impossible to find classic pieces.

Anyway, what say you?  Did I meet my goal of quirky and fun or am I ridiculous and tryhard?

*As always, I make no money from this blog. These are actual things I'm wearing as I type this that I paid actual money for. No affiliate links have been used.

  1. I love it! And what's "professional" is becoming more and more relaxed, whether we like it or not.

P.S. I wear some leggings as pants. But they are not see-through at all. I know you would still be appalled :)-
